Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)
I wanted to love it.
Hmmm - Where do I start?
I'm not a Marvel comic book reader. I watched a few cartoons, and have always loved the idea of them. So, any time a movie or show comes out, the brand alone has gained enough merit for me to give it a shot. With that being said, Ragnarok was forgettable. I have zero recollection of that movie. Love and thunder felt similar, mostly because they were both shot by Taika Waititi.
The "comedy"...why? They're trying so hard to make him (Thor) funny. It's blatantly forced. I appreciate them adding comedic actors, but it's not landing with the actors that don't have that in their repertoire. They moved away from the serious, dark approach which, for me, really worked. The dark elves, Loki, and I'll add that even Christian Bale's character had the 'look'. When it came down to it though, it was just a 'look'.
The villain didn't wreak enough havoc to cause any anxiety, so when you don't have a domineering villain, you're pushing Natalie Portman as Thor, who also has cancer, and you're desperately trying to make people laugh in every scene, what is it that you were trying to accomplish? A great trailer? Well, bravo! You made an awesome trailer. I'll wait for the next Thor to hit the streaming channels. Great visuals, though.
When to Use the N Word (2021)
The title brought me in
I thought this show was fantastic! Definitely wasn't working with a huge budget, but I was pleasantly surprised by how funny I found it. It's not cheesy or reaching very hard to land jokes the situations are just brilliantly put together. Bravo!
