The Great Outdoors (1988)
This movie is never a 5.9 thats insulting
I was just looking up movies here on IMDb when I noticed that The Great Outdoors had received only a 5.9 mark I find this incredible as I thought that this movie was and is a cult comedy classic. With Dan Akroyd and the late great John Candy on top form .The comedy in this movie is fantastic the scene with the old dead guy in it is one of the funniest scenes I have ever seen in a movie and the gags come thick and fast it is never only a 5.9 more like a 7.0 in my opinion. It takes a lot to make me laugh when I go to the movies but this comedy hits the spot so don't let the low mark put you off checking out this movie as it is far better than its 5.9 suggests and you wont be disappointed .Well thats me finished i just had to write this as I was shocked at the low mark this great movie received.
Zodiac (2007)
Fincher scores again
Zodiac focuses on the self named Zodiac serial killings of the 60s and 70s from a different angle than most psycho killer movies that is to say most of the movie is about the investigation and not the actual murders . I found this idea very refreshing and and not nearly as boring as it sounds you do get to see a couple of the murders taking place and I found those scenes very brutal and very real. During the movie a handful of suspects are thrown up and then eliminated from the police investigation for one reason or another and when the case against there main suspect is thrown out the cops are baffled . Enter Jake Gyllenhaal as a cartoonist obsessed about the identity of the Zodiac he takes up the investigation and it takes over his life ending with a suspect that both he and the police think committed the murders .Totaly different in style from Finchers Seven Gyllenhaal is superb and is involved in some great suspense scenes . All the main leads in this movie are on top form especially Robert Downey Jnr who excels in his character .Zodiac is easily the best movie i have seen this year and definitely 10/10
Secret Window (2004)
secret sensation
Secret window is one of my all time favourite movies. Based on a short story by my all time favourite author it succeeds where many other movies based on Stephen king stories fail and it does this by getting the casting exactly right.Johnny Depp, John Turturro ,Maria Bello and Timothy Hutton excelled in bringing Kings characters to life especially Depp who is inspirational as the seemingly ordinary Mort...Secret Window is a typical King story and by that i mean it is a well told story with great characters and a few twists along the way leading up to a fantastic finale and all of these elements were successfully captured and brought to screen by director David Koepp making this movie one of the best of 2004...Yep a great little horror/ thriller ....10/10
The Notebook (2004)
A love story even us guys can appreciate
When i sat down to watch the notebook i was expecting some wishy washy chick flick but what i got instead was a well told and very well acted and sensitive story about relationships and the importance of finding you're true love and soul mate...RACHEL MCADAMS and RYAN GOSLING as the two main leads were superb and although JAMES GARNER and GINA ROWLANDS are not on screen as much as them they also give fine performances...... With one or two tearful moments I would recommend the notebook for both MALE and FEMALE movie fans.... not just for the ladies so don't let the LOVESTORY tag scare you off guys this is a movie everybody can enjoy......awesome 9/10
