Madame Web (2024)
Horrid, terrible nonsense
What a load of bullocks.
It's just a mess. The acting is terrible, the plot is boring and predictable, action scenes are rubbish, characters are two dimensional to be kind.
It's just awful, I don't know where to begin. The plot is basically some magic spiders and mystical tribe that does something with them. A mother trys to find them to solve a genetic issue with her unborn baby. Bad man takes the spider and because he stole the spider he is now cursed as the evil spider man. The baby is born with venom in the blood so has the ability to see future events.
That's basically it. There's three teenage girls who are supose to get powers, but don't. And in the end the main character becomes some weird doctor x character in a wheelchair for no explained reason.
It is stupid. It's a waste of my $12 I spent buying the ticket.
Avoid this movie. It is the death of Marvel.
Lift (2024)
The definition of ok-ish
It's not the first time a comedian or funny guy has played a serious role, normally a dark and strong character that is so far from their normal it scares us. This one is Kevin Hart trying to be a master thief. Didn't really work.
Plot.... group of art thrives who steal art, get blackmailed by police to steal rich guys gold who makes money from tragedies he creates. Plane transports gold, they steal gold, it goes pear shaped, bad guy thinks he wins, then he doesn't and goes to jail. Thrives have switched the gold with painted lead and have thrown it out of the plane earlier.
It's OK, but lacks any of the qualities that will make this film last any longer then a few months on Netflix before it is discarded to the pile of forgotten films Netflix air.
Also, does anyone else find it a little self serving the owner of the production company (Kevin Hart) casting himself as the lead role.
Mr. Mercedes (2017)
Season 1 was great, and that's where it should've ended
The first season was great. A slow burn did well. Not too much random back stories. An element of believability about the whole thing. It was good. There were the usual ups and down, quality acting throughout.
The ending was believable, had a nice closing to the whole thing. All the characters had a journey and some sort of conclusion.
Then season 2. Wow, only made it through 3 episodes. Bad guy is brain dead, but some doctor with a bimbo sales woman wife pushing a miracle drug experiments on him. Some random bs dream sequences and that was us done.
Series one, definitely worth a watch, then stop watching any further.
The Pledge (2001)
Passable, but disappointing in the end
I feel like you could cut out a good hour of scenery and mood setting screne shots, but all you're left with is a very vanilla type movie.
Jack Nicolas is good by any other actors standards, but well below par for his own.
The story line is simple. Retired cop promises to find a killer of a wee girl on a case that comes in 4 hours from the end of his last shift. A young detective finds a suspect, Jacks not happy and spends the first part of his retirement obsessing about it.
He strikes a relationship with a mother of a young child, as most single retirees do i guess, lol. He ends up using the girl as bait, but bad man dies in a car crash on his way to the "meeting"
He then looses his mind.
It is average at best. Frustrating ending.
The Open House (2018)
Redefines awful
Mother and son who are too close in age to possibly be mother and son, move into rich sisters house that she is trying to sell.
Then random stuff happens, there's a random guy who is hiding in the house, the random guy kills them, movie ends.
That is it
That is the plot.
No idea who the guy is, why he did it, they die, movie ends.
That is it. Acting is crap, story line is barely existent. It is a waste of hard drive space.
The most nonsense, boring waste of cinematic bs I've seen for a while.
Its reasonably short though, not too many minutes wasted in my life.
Nice scenery I guess, I spent more time looking at the scenery then the acting.
Heart of Stone (2023)
Watchable, not great but watchable
The standards have been low recently. Lots of disappointments. This one though, it was entertaining. Don't think too hard, sit back, enjoy. Ignore some of the effects, for example the actors on motorbikes bolt upright not moving on the bike. The needlessly big explosions are fun though.
The big triumph of this movie is the Heroine is believable. Gal actually does a good job and is believable as the hero of the story. I've honestly struggled to accept the actor choices in past movies. They are either hard to relate to or just unbelievable.
Could there be a sequel, its possible. The basics are there.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023)
Zero plot, dragged. The definition of underwhelmed
There are spoilers, and this is it. To be continued. 2.5 hours of vagueness and "to be continued"!!!!
The plot was vague. Girl misses boy. There's a world of spider men, women. Basically they all have to suffer the same crushing blows, I.e uncles, fathers die or their universe's implode. Ffs.
Then for a twist no one cares about, the spider that bite Miles was from another universe so he wasnt meant to be bitten and has to be contained by the spidermen/women.
It blissful wraps up with Mile in the universe his spider came from were there was no Miles and the Miles there is bad.
There is a villain, he is underdeveloped and boring. His very existence is based of some crap clear thought up from a board meeting or a long time spent on the toilet.
Underwhelming is a massive understatement.
John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023)
Best action, lost a lot of the real feel though
First the good, this has some of the best action scene, chronograph, flow I have ever seen in a movie. Epic doesn't start to explain how good this movie is for action. The seamless flow from one shot, scene and bullet shots is a master piece of cinematic brilliance.
Now the bad, I get the bullet proof clothes, but to be shot repeatedly with no real reaction, too jump out of a third or fourth story window, half land on a car, grunt a few times and run off, really!!!! What made the first one so good was that it could be possible, no superpowers just John Wick being John Wick.
They did bring back some is the minimalist dialog though, the first had just enough, but not to much, and this was the same. 2 and 3 were too..... wordy. Well done acknowledging and adapting to that writers.
An appropriate end to and epic series in a world of very substandard movies of late.
Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)
Very very ok
Good, but not great, humorous but not funny. It felt like it was trying to live up to Thor Ragnarok without the strength and dynamics of strong leads.
Thor, loki and the hulk, vs Thor, Mrs Thor and a disgruntled king/ queen/ flying hose rider warrior. Not so much.
Story was ok, God scene was underwhelming and the action scenes were same same. The wit was replaced with slap stick cheap laughs.
A missive hike in the budget has once again come at the cost of quality.
Spiderhead (2022)
Average in every way
Slow.
Based around a ok-ish idea, prisoners being experimented on, drug corporation devaluing human life in the name of science, an uninspiring uprising and the head of the corporation dies.
That might have spoilt it for you, but you would have guessed it yourself within 20 minutes anyway.
If there is nothing else on, then go for it.
Pinokkio. Pravdivaya istoriya (2021)
Bad bad bad
This film has no redeeming qualities. From the terrible CGI, awful sound track, words that done match the movement of the mouth, and worst of all, a 50+ year old trying to sound like a small wooden boy. There were 9 people in the movie theater, 4 left half way through. We should have as well.
Terrible terrible movie.
