The First Omen (2024)
I absolutely loved this.
I watched this in the cinema after letting my boyfriend pick a random movie and I thought I was going to like it.. surprisingly, I absolutely loved it.
I thought some of the scenes were a bit cheep, like when it came to the jump scares but it was because it wasn't anything new. It was a bit predictable because they took some of the jump scenes from the original story. It was like I was 5 seconds a head of the movie every time something was going to happen.
At first it seemed kind of slow and confusing but it was worth it for the bigger picture in the end. Even though its been done 4 other times before I think they did it justice.. I'll admit I hope they do a second one and I wasn't a big fan of the originals.
Also when Nell Tiger Free came on screen I knew she was going to do an impressive job. She never fails to impress me when it comes to her acting.
Extraordinary (2023)
Season 1 and 2.
I went into this show open minded but I thought I wouldn't like it all that much. It actually took me a few episodes to get into it but after that I was hooked. Its kind of silly and some parts don't make sense but it has so many level to it.
We're all just floating through life trying to deal with our trauma and still figuring out who we are, all while feeling anything but extraordinary.
I really connected with Jen and completely understood her.. a little bit broken, a little bit lost and a little bit petty. All of the main characters development was happening pretty fast though, so I just hope that doesn't mean by season 3 there isn't much else to add to the story.
Sophie Oxenham (Carrie) was so funny, quirky and all round loveable. She kind of reminded me of Aimee in "Sex Education" and I would have absolutely loved to have seen Aimee Lou Wood's take on this character.
As for Kash's storyline.. I did not expect to go where it ended up but I'm so glad it did. It just made the story even better and more interesting.
Ladhood (2019)
Based on all 3 seasons.
This got suggested to me by someone and I wasn't 100% keen but I gave it a go anyway. At first the narration of the main character kind of annoyed me. He always stayed the same note and it was like he was reading in class infront of everyone, also his acting wasn't the best either. He did however become a lot better by season 2, the character just seemed to have more layers to him.
By the end of season 1 I absolutely loved it.. it the nostalgia for me. I'm a kid of the 90s and went to high school in the 00s and I can tell you things didn't change much. It stupidity was just on point for me with how the group was with each other. Just reminded me and my group of friends at school.
I was a bit confused at first by the narrator and his younger self was acting the way the ways sometimes because it never really explained it. I was actually expecting some sort of trauma story but in season 3 it does sort of give an insight as to why he behaves that way.
I was actually disappointed when I realised there was only 3 seasons and then it got cancelled but its still worth the watch.
Loudermilk (2017)
Shame it got cancelled after 3 seasons.
I actually took this show out of my list because after not falling in love withib seconds I decided it wasn't for me. I ended up giving it a second chance after reading the reviews and I'm glad I did.
The comedy was so subtle sometimes and other times it was out right ridiculous and that's what made it so fun to watch. As someone who is sober and been to my fair share of NA/AA meetings it honestly really is just like that sometimes.. most of us are just lost and seeking guidance for other addicts that have no idea what they are doing either.
Absolutely loved Sam Loudermilk, as someone who is rather rude, grumpy and intolerable of others he's actually a very likeable character.
However, I don't think this show is for everyone though. I think you've just got have that sense of humour in order to find it amusing.
Femme (2023)
Hurt people, hurt people.
I actually really loved this story but the ending just didn't do it for me.
It touched light upon discrimination and just pure hate towards anyone in the LGBTQ+ community.. it actually was a really touching story and I thought it was actually rather beautiful in it own way. This sort of discrimination happens every single day and the sentiment was there it just had a few bits that didn't do it justice.
I loved the fact that Jules (Nathan Stewart-Jarrett) felt like the only way he could reclaim what was taken from him was by outing Preston (George MacKay) through revenge porn. I honestly thought at the end he would either go through with it and it ruin Prestons life, or he'd not go through with it and fall in love with his abuser.
The fact Preston actually found out at a drag show just didn't feel right to me. Why would Jules just randomly go up on stage and start blurting out about his plan for revenge. It just seemed like a rushed ending.
They also made Preston out to be a victim too much. Yes, he was probably hurt by someone else and that's exactly why he hurts others and hides who he is but that's no excuse for him to beat a person up. In the end I felt my deepest sympathy for Preston and it took away from the fact Jules was beaten and victimised by this man.
I'm not saying it was right for Jules to out Preston or post revenge porn but it felt a little messy as it built up to the end.
I don't know if Nathan Stewart (Jules) has ever done any drag work before but he really slayed it. As a massive fan of Drag Race he played this part like he belonged on Ru Paul's stage.
Irish Wish (2024)
Too much cheese.
Usually its not an issue when a film is cheesy but this was just far too cheesy for me. It was very inconsistent as well. At the beginning when the main character (Lindsey Lohan) loses her scarf it makes out like she's the clumsy type of girl, but she's not like that at all. She's actually a well put together woman.
She also knew the photographer (Ed Speleers) for like a whole 24 hours and then suddenly they are arguing like they've known each other for years. They got too emotionally invested in one another too fast for my liking.. it just felt rushed.
Not to mention who tells their best friend they're in love with their husband to be at their wedding and the bride totally be OK with it. It was corny all the way through and it just felt like it was thrown together in like a week or something.
I only watched this because Lindsey Lohan is in and I will watch anything she is in. The only good thing that came out of this movie is that she is absolutely glowing and thriving as an actress once again.
One Day (2024)
Wow.. I did not expect to like this.
I added this show to my list because it was highly recommended but I didn't expect to like it because I tend to dislike most popular shows. Well I can say for sure I'm pleasantly surprised, I absolutely loved it.
Its actually rather hard for me to review because there was no flaws what so ever.. it was perfect. Its such a beautifully written script and I felt every emotion the characters felt. Whoever wrote this deserves some sort of award for sure.
The ended even had my shocked. I just didn't expect it to end like that for some reason.. it actually put me in a bit of mood but I'm still glad I watched it. Its probably one I'll go back and watch every couple of years.
Can we put our hands together for Leo Woodall (Dexter). What an absolutely amazing actor he is.. he completely made the show. I felt like I was there with him living and feeling the high and lows alongside him.
The Skeleton Key (2005)
The best movie I've watched in a while.
I first heard of this movie because it was suggested to me from a Facebook group. Watching the trailer I was intrigued but didn't have high hopes from it not being a 7 or over out of 10, safe to say I was pleasantly surprised.
At first I was convinced it probably wasn't going to be that great but the more I watched it the more I needed to know what was happening. I make it my own personal mission to figure out what is going on before it shows us. Some of it I did clock onto but I'll admit the plot twist at the end had me blown away.
It's rare movies like this that makes me love watching and rating movies. It wasn't even scary and it was more jumpy but I felt a little freaked out a little while after watching it.
It did take me a little while to figure out at the end who Benjamin really was but I think that was me just being a little dim.
All the Light We Cannot See (2023)
Its not greener on the other side.
This mini series shows what the second world war was like from the other side. Through out history we have spoken about how German soliders we're brutal and took side of a very evil man. It is rarely spoken about how some of those soliders didn't have a choice. They either fought for Hitler and his vision or they would die. It really did open my eyes.. a lot of men fighting on the other side really did just want to survive and get back to their families.
Going into this series I liked the fact it was only 4 episodes because they is short and sweet but by the end I wished it had more episodes. It easily could have been stretched out to 6 episodes. It just felt like we was robbed of some of the small details that would have elevated the show a little.
I must say I'm a massive fan of Louis Hofmann. What a talented actor he really is.
The Gentlemen (2024)
The posh version of Brassic.
I really enjoyed episode 1 to 6 of the show but by episode 7 and 8 I kind of lost interest in it.
The show started off really fun with great humour. It was sort of ridiculous but in a good way, the type that is so ridiculous it turns out being funny. The whole "all rich people are criminals" really worked but it got a little desperate and rushed towards the end.
In the last 2 episodes I just felt like it stopped being funny and silly and got really serious. They also really rushed the ending I think.. instead of having it all wrapped up in episode 8 they could have added the extra episode and had a really good, action packed ending.
The John the Gospel story seemed like it was going to be rather interesting but I'm still not even sure what happened with that. It just burnt out rather fast. The end storyline with The Game Keeper as well (Vinny Jones) was so cliché it turned into being cringey.
I probably will watch season 2 though because as a whole the show wasn't that bad and its definitely the best thing Netflix has made in a while.
Cat Person (2023)
I got it until I didn't..
I went into this movie expecting this crime story with a huge plot twist and it wasn't even close. I wasn't exactly disappointed though because I actually enjoyed most of the movie. It was just the ending that let it down for me.
So the first half of the movie I totally understand.. as a female who dated for years before settling down I found myself laughing at the awkward situations the movie reminded me of. There is this fear, stress and complete awkwardness to modern dating. The movie captured that spot on. I can't speak for other women but I found myself relating completely to both of the main characters.
When it got to the end though I felt like there was just this desperation to make the movie end on a shocking note but it just didn't fit the rest of the movie. Id of rated it higher if they went their separate ways and learn from the mistakes they made.
(P. S Robert was definitely on the spectrum and Margot's super "woke" best friend really annoyed me.)
The Program: Cons, Cults, and Kidnapping (2024)
Thats how a documentary should be done
Documentaries are so alike that we start feel like once we've watched one we've watched them all. There was just something different about this one.. maybe its because it was created by the people who went through these horrid things. It has a personal touch to it that no one else would really be able to shine light upon.
Even though 3 episodes is plenty and there wasn't really much else to be said at the moment, I was left wanting more. I want to know if justice was served or if any of the children there today can be set free.
I hope this show go viral so the people behind the camps can be stopped and all current victims can be saved.
Poor Things (2023)
Youre either going to love it or youre going to hate it.
I'm not exactly sure what I was even expecting from the movie but it wasn't what I had in mind at all.. it was definitely a lot more weirder than I thought it would be. It actually left me feeling kind of confused. I wasn't sure if I hated or loved it.. turns out I did really enjoy it but I was obsessed like I originally thought I would be.
It had some really funny moments, the acting was brilliant and the storyline as a whole wasn't so bad either. It probably had some deep hidden meaning behind it all that I didn't quite catch onto though.
Emma Stone was brilliant. As the leading role she carried the entire movie and I seen her in a light I haven't nor ever thought id see her in.
Loved the shouted to Frankenstein and his monster as well.
Shattered (2022)
Could have been so much more.
I would have really liked this movie if it wasn't for the bad storyline and even worse acting. I got about 40 minutes in and just wished it would end.
The storyline was so predictable, it was like I was a couple seconds a head of the story every time something big was going to happen. There was no shock factor to the story at all because of this.
The leading actress wasn't terrible but she wasn't great either. She just stayed the same note the entire movie. Even when the story changed into something more sinister her factial expressions and tone just stayed the same.
Cameron Monaghan did not disappoint though. Outstanding acting as always.
Upgraded (2024)
RomCom or True Crime?
I've heard this story before but instead of happy ending it was about a con artist that lied and robbed them blind.
The whole time I was watching this movie I was just thinking about how she lied about who she was and when they found out they didn't even bat an eyelid. She lied and used William for things she needed. The had the audacity to gaslighted him into thinking he was the problem when things wasn't going her way.
The movie was kinda mediocre anyway.. I wouldn't really consider it a RomCom.
To be honest I only originally watched this because it has Camila Mendez in it and no hate to her because she's a brilliant actress.
Lisa Frankenstein (2024)
Gave me Edward Scissor Hands Vibes
As soon as I seen the trailer for this I knew I was going to like it.. I can see myself when I'm older and it being a "classic" movie I watch with me kids. It just gave me so much nostalgia for the movies I used to watch as a kid. I grew up in the 90s but was raised on 80s movies, so it reminded me of all the movies my mum and I would watch together.
It wasn't completely perfect though, I do wish I enjoyed it more than I did. I really thought I was going to be obsessed with this movie but I just enjoyed it on a normal level. It felt like maybe there was something missing or that it could have been longer maybe.
Will watch anything with Cole Sprouse in, I Absolutely love watching him on screen.
The Eyes of Tammy Faye (2021)
I really enjoyed it.
I didn't really know much about Tammy Faye or her husband before watching this but I truly believed Tammy just wanted people to love God.
I enjoyed watching but I feel like it was 2 hours long and I still wasn't satisfied. It was like parts were missing or they couldn't fit the whole story in it. I could have been 3 hours long though and I still would have watched and loved it. Maybe it would have been better as a 4 part series, just so they could add more detail. They only really mentioned briefly that Jim had sex with other men.. surely there has to be more to that story.
I rated it a 7-10 because I enjoyed it but it definitely had the potential to be a 9-10.
Anyone But You (2023)
I liked it but didn't love it.
It just wasn't the type of RomCom I was looking for. Maybe it's just me still living in the 90s - 00s when it comes to these type of movie but they just don't make them like they used to. It was really corny (not in a good way) and was all about tacky, childish fighting.
I feel like I say this a lot about movies lately but it was just all one note.. they argued the whole movie until they realised they had feelings for each other.
I know its just a movie but it just was not realistic. The Harbour Rescue part at the end really annoyed me (who even does something like that). The only part I really liked was the serenity song.
Eileen (2023)
If I knew it was a slow burn I wouldn't have bothered watching it
It was the trailer that originally got me interested in the movie. It looked like it was going to be an intense thriller with a shocking ending.. it was none of those things.
I got about an hour into when I realised not much as happened and its likely that nothing actually will. If I had realised sooner I probably would have turned it off but since I was an in hour I decided to finish it.
When it got close to the end and revealed the big secret she had I was shocked but I instantly got over it. I feel like the movie built up to something but never actually went anywhere. The entire movie was just one note right up until the very end.
The only thing in the entire movie was Thomasin McKenzies accent. I think she really nailed it.
Ted (2024)
This one I absolutely loved.
I wasn't going to watch this as it didn't seem like my sort of thing but after seeing the reviews I changed my mind and I'm so glad I did. Seth McFarlane's work isn't for everyone but this is definitely his best work yet.
This show really cheered me up and I found myself falling in love with the whole family. I mean, the bear isn't even real but the show got me emotionally invested in a potty mouthed teddy bear.
Not all of the jokes I got or I struggled to find funny but I'm not usually a comedy person anyway. I kept checking what episode I was on because I really didn't want it to end.
I even loved the fact that Max Burkholder (John) had the Boston accent down just like Mark Wahlberg did in the 2012 movie.
Mare of Easttown (2021)
What a roller coaster of a ride that was.
Ive never seen anything else with Kate Winslet in it other than the Titanic so I was pleasantly surprised seeing her in this one. The plot to this show was on point start to finish.. every actor and accent was perfection. I was even happy to see that Peter Evans starred in it. (I didn't check the actors before watching)
When it was close to the end and it came out who the killer was and I was a little disappointed because it didn't feel right to me but once that plot twist hit I was gobsmacked. I definitely didn't expect the ending and I always try to figure out who did it before the end.. safe to say I had no clue whatsoever.
Night Swim (2024)
Is your pool haunted?!
I'm even sure where to start with this one..
I was looking forward to this until I read some reviews and honestly thought I wasn't going to make it through the movie. I did actually fall asleep before the end and had to rewatch it the next day.
I didn't hate it but it definitely wasn't great. I think it wasn't actually a bad story or idea but there was just small bits that made it tacky for me. I don't like the fact they didn't explain much or go deeper into the why its haunted or the origin of the thing that's haunting it. Also I hated the fact it suddenly made its way into the house. If that was the case wouldn't it be able to haunt the entire street of pools and houses?
Personally I think the movie was just a cheap money maker and it would have been a great CWs Supernatural episode.
(Also who the hell brings a entire an uncut watermelon to a pool party?)
En helt vanlig familj (2023)
Nothing new.
It's the sort of story you've seen a million times over.. it was just a basic story with basic acting. You could pretty much roughly guess where the story was heading and personally I like to watch a show and have no clue what is happening next. By episode 3 I was just about to give up on it but I did finished the show. It didn't actually get really interesting till mid episode 5 but then it just went back downhill in episode 6. I feel like most of it was just filler until the ending when you find out what actually happened.
Christian Sundgren (Christoffer) was amazing. He pretty much carried the show and how he went from one personality to a completely different one the next. I like it when an actor has range and definitely does.
School Spirits (2023)
School Spirits.
I actually liked this one and I binged all 8 episodes in one day. It definitely kept me wondering what happened to her but it felt like it was missing something. It didn't give me that feeling were I wouldn't rest if I did not find out what happened at the end. I didn't like how they portrayed some of the characters to be guilty when it had already showed parts that was evidence to them being innocent. Yes in some ways they was guilty of something but it felt like it was pushed too hard in the direction of the murder. I did rather like the story line of the mother though. I was buying whatever they was trying to sell me with that one and it came as a shock as well.
Some of the acting did irraite me a little bit like how Kristian Ventura (Simon) was always one not. As someone who has seen a lot of loss people go through different emotions. He just stayed angry the entire show.. but I suppose he is just a teenager who doesn't know what to do with his pain.
All in all I can't wait for season 2 and for the story to continue on.
No One Will Save You (2023)
I can't decide if I liked it or not..
I feel like I'm missing something because I don't actually understand the movie.. yes she's being attacked by aliens while reliving a trauma that happened when she was younger but the whole alien just didn't make sense to me. It doesn't explain enough.. why are they there? What are they doing? Was their intentions all along to attack her? None of these questions are answered. I like the two ideas of the aliens and her trauma story but I just think they would be better off separate movies rather than put together.
I didn't hate the movie though and I liked how the movie was directed and the CGI was on point as well. I wasn't a huge fan of the ending though as it didn't make any sense to me at all.
Not usually a huge fan of Kaitlyn Dever as I find her acting mediocre most of the time but she did a brilliant job in this movie. She played the part pretty well.
