James Bond 007: Blood Stone (2010 Video Game)

IO Interactive Have Some Big Shoes to Fill After Blood Stone....
23 April 2022
It took me a decade after this game came out to finally pick it up and give it a try and boy am I impressed and angry at myself for not getting it sooner. If I had to justify myself I would say its because I played Quantum of Solace and while it was cool for what it was, it was just a little too close Call of Duty for my liking so I thought Blood Stone would be the same causing me not to rush to play it but boy I couldnt have been more wrong.

A welcomed change is the return to 3rd person as it really compliments the chase sequences and takedowns and just he overall fast pace that a Daniel Craig Bond game needs. And although it is a faster paced game it still has some strong stealth elements that are not exclusive to this game. Take downs and silencers are your main tools to staying silent so if you've played any other Bond games you are familiar with the stealth in Blood Stone which im not gonna say its a bad thing because I'd rather that than shitty forced stealth sections that go on for half an hour with little or no checkpoints in between.

I would certainly rank Blood Stone among the creme of the crop in the Bond games simply for the way it captures the feeling of the Craig films and as I play this game I cant help but feel more and more excited for IO Interactive's upcoming Project 007 which I hope will breathe new life into the James Bond video game market with recent game technology and developers that we know actually care about the quality of the games we could be in for perhaps the best Bond game since Goldeneye or the biggest letdown since the Goldeneye remaster. Only time will tell.

Awesome Game. Must Have For Fans of the Series.

Very fleshed out and well made game. Back when Activision actually cared about the quality of the games they released. Good upgrade system where you can tweak with weapons and gadgets that you find throughout levels which also contains my only gripe with the game; I prefer starting with a pistol and picking up various weapons from fallen enemies rather than the more arcade-y route this game went down where you carry over weapons from level to level. It may be a bit of a nitpick and at the end of the day it doesnt take away from how amazing the rest of the game is but I just like the more realistic approach rather than having an arsenal stuffed in Bonds prison wallet.

Beyond that the combat feels very good and you are able to target various weakpoints on the enemies body including grenades they have on their belts to chain kill enemies around them which can lead to some cinematic moments. Car chases are a staple of Bond games and movies and they do not slouch in this game. Alongside cars however you will be driving and gunning in a variety of different machinery, my favorite of which is the jetpack. Flying around in a jetpack as Sean Connery (who voices himself in the game which is just amazing) while launching missiles and bullets at angry russians with guns is the pinnacle of James Bond gaming and, among others things, really sets this game apart from the rest of the flock.

All in all I think From Russia with Love, Everything or Nothing, and Blood Stone are the three games that capture the movies the best within their gameplay and stories respectively.

Absolute Peak of Bond Gaming
23 April 2022
I've played through most of the major Bond games in the past few weeks and I have to say this one is neck and neck with Goldeneye for being my absolute favorite. It has everything you could want in a Bond game: Gadgets, chases, good story, stealth, BROSNAN!! It feels like youre playing a James Bond movie. All of the chase scenes and gun fights mesh together so well it feels scripted. Add in the fact that most of the characters are voiced by the people who play them in the movies and its a magical experience all the way through. If you have the opportunity to play this game on original hardware or even through Emulator (which is what I did) I think every Bond fan should experience this masterpiece.

Its Everything You Heard it Was....... For Better or Worse

I'm not too far into the game but I think I'm far enough to get a read on what the rest of the game is going to be like. The best way I can describe it is if someone HEAVILY modded Call of Duty Modern Warfare into a James Bond game. Its so heavily removed from the other main titles in the franchise that there have been some moments where I genuinely forgot it was a Bond game. Now all of that being said, if you go into this expecting a very cheap first person shooter with calls to various Bond movies then its bearable. The gun play is admittedly pretty smooth, albeit tedious, and its fun to see old Bond villains come to life even if it could have been on a grander stage. If you can get this game at a very cheap price ($10 is absolute max I'd pay and thats kinda generous) then it might be worth it if you played all the bond games and want to add this one to your collection.
