Riptide (2022)
3/10
Slow Neighbours drama
9 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I don't know how to use 600 characters to review this terrible mini series. The daughter was ok, although the actress must have been mid 20s, supposedly playing a 16 year old. They never explained why her parents had British accents, yet she was Australian or how her parents were actually allowed into Australia, mum a masseuse, dad ex-alcoholic. No disrespect to Jo Joyner, but are we meant to believe that Peter O'brien, Ciaran Griffiths and David Berry were madly in love with Jo's dowdy, dull and mumsy character? The murderer look like a male model! The music was obtrusive, 3 episodes to build up the story and 10 mins to wrap it up, very rushed. For me the star of the show was the beautiful house. Don't waste your time watching Riptide!

Little man crying

Warning: Spoilers
Ok, so I'm actually still watching this, I'm writing a review, just in case I fall asleep!

Bless Emma Roberts maybe she owed the director a favour, or she was on her way to the supermarket and found herself on a film set either way, she tried!

1. If your wife has postpartum depression, why would you purchase a murder House in the middle of nowhere?

2. The husband is a vet, why is he on call 18 hours a day, working for 2 clients?

3. Why is she wearing the same white dress?

4. Who doesn't have a TV on, at least in the background just for noise?

Come on director give us something to work with, it seems as if he Abandoned his own movie!

This is not Elf 2

Erm.... Will Ferrel sings a lot, Ryan Reynolds plays the same character as his other movies, who sings a lot. Unfortunately, the glorious Octavia Spencer is just a fish out of water here.

Great choreography and music, "can you imagine if professional singers sung these songs".

I don't think a child would understand what was happening, is it a drama, musical or comedy? They've thrown it all in! Visually stunning, it feels very theatrical, like a recoding of a musical show though.

Not much of a back story for many characters, the niece is forgotten, half way through. Unfortunately, I don't think it will become a classic.

Nope (2022)

Is anyone out there, and do we care?
12 September 2022
Peele the director has given us a couple of interesting films Get Out and Us, unfortunately, Nope doesn't deliver. I can see why people compare Peeles work to M. Night Shyamalan, Nope falls short. A lot of rambling, not a lot of explaining!

Whilst Daniel and Keke acted their socks off both being talented actors, it wasn't enough. The cinematography was beautiful at times, although I found a lot of the the film to be in total darkness! I couldn't distinguish what was happening.

At least 30 mins too long, with the first two acts extremely slow.

I wouldn't say that it's horror, more sci-fi. Not much to be said really, just plods along, without the "pay off" ending!

What the hell did I just watch? If anything, you must watch for Peter Cushing extraordinary acting. I've never seen him move so much, murdering, fighting, running, doctoring, climbing, almost thought Peter was doing a screen test for James Bond! Psychedelic music, pounding in the background, random "dancing" whilst the mayhem continues at break neck speed.

David Lodge appears as Groper towards the end of the film, a completely British bonkers eccentric.

Sue Lloyd and Kate O'Mara look beautiful, well most of the time. Love these dated strange movies. Ok some of the scenes were laughable but give it a go!

I like Jamie Foxx, but what was he thinking? Netflix are popping these terrible movies out like candy. They have thrown everything at it... 100m budget, vampires, action, car chases, choreographed fight scenes, comedy it just doesn't work. Maybe 14 year old boys will think this is "da bom"

Terminators leftover hand
19 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Silly, preposterous, but I thoroughly enjoyed it! Not really a horror, even though the three Masters of horror appeared, Vincent, Christopher and Peter. Throw in some 60s nightclub scenes, Nazi symbolism, stripper music, scientific hodge podge. At one point I thought, Schwarzeneggers, Terminator was going to appear because of the artificial hand!

Ridiculously dated movie, quite brilliant and bizarre, watch it!

Classy

As a woman in her fifties, I enjoyed the movie. Binoche is in nearly every scene and she is wonderful. Yes, towards the end it was a bit far fetched, but... we ladies of a certain age, do disappear into the background and we are invisible. Let's see what Hollywood does with the story!

Arty horror

To be fair, I only watched this for Alice Krieg and her wonderful hair. Thought provoking, subtle horror. Reminded me of a beautiful Enya video. Very cinematic, ambiguous and vague. Featuring sublime Malcolm Mcdowell, blink and you'll miss him Rupert Everett.

What did I just see??? No plot line, no dialogue, no talent! It was truly awful, I gave it 3 stars for Christopher Lee only. Come on guys, I've seen low budget films, but this is a joke, not in a funny way. Trying to be Monty Python without the laughs. Don't bother!

Where's the decipher code?
18 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It's started with a mild mannered emergency call handler, receiving a call from a woman who has recognised his voice. He has a meltdown at work after she calls again, within minutes of the episode beginning, he's meeting up with her, stealing a van with an apparent dead body inside, out running multiple police officers. We're going back in time, then present. No disrespect, but I found their accent difficult to follow too. One of the worse BBC "dramas" I've seen in my opinion.

Indeed, a good woman is hard to find
18 July 2022
I wasn't expecting much, but I was wrong. I really enjoyed this low budget movie. The main character had a lovely innocent/gentle quality... Until the killing began! I was also impressed with the "baddies" very realistic and frightening, not the usual gangster type. All in all it was a good watch.

My my my Mr Meloni
6 July 2022
Although I have thoroughly enjoyed SUV, I think the last couple of seasons have become stale. What can I say, Mr Meloni has grown into a fine mature wine. I like the fact there's one thread, but mini stories in the season. Give it a chance, as season 2 is much better.

The only thing I would recommend, is a better team behind Stabler.

Solid slasher
25 June 2022
I actually really enjoyed this movie. Never seen a Polish film before, great atmosphere, cinematic shots of the woodland. The acting was very good, considering the young actors had limited experience.

I also found the "monsters" prosthetics excellent too. Just one little gripe, I would have explained the back story, at the beginning of the film and then built up the tension.

All in all a good solid slasher, on par with Friday 13th/wrong turn.

Just because you have the funding to make a movie, doesn't mean that you should make this particular movie. I lasted 20 mins, more than enough. They threw us in without a paddle, no idea what was going on, too boring to watch or actually find out what was happening.

This film wasn't probably geared at middle aged ladies, but hey, I am a middle aged lady and I enjoyed it! Rocky style, but basketball. Good looking lead, great music plus Adam Sandler is back, whether you like him or not.

Dunno yet

I stumbled across the series, I do have a penchant for foreign drama. Egyptian or Lebanese horror, I'm not sure. I've seen 3 episodes and there is graphic violence in every episode. Some of the acting is meh... Not very coherent, nothing seems to join up at the moment. But hey, I'm giving it a try, something different!

Could have been a 10
15 April 2022
Love creepy house movies, could have been super spooky. It was let down by the parents "what were they thinking" or not in this case. Who leaves their children in a huge old house the day after they move in, to pitch an idea at work???? The acting by the "mother" Elisha Cuthbert was great. The father was sleepwalking through the whole movie, literally no point having him. Good concept, unfortunately, lack of budget and character development let it down.

Magnificent ending
3 April 2022
The final episode of the last ever series was in my humble opinion SUBLIME. Beautifully shot, musically brilliant, "I had the subtitles on" the lyrics told the story. All the loose ends tied up nicely, hopefully ready for the movie with a new fight for the Peaky Blinders. Excellent acting by Cillian Murphy and Paul Anderson very well done by everyone!

Joe Coles ascending star quality is not there, he lacks charisma and his deadpan acting is boring!

The story drifts from scene to scene, using different camera angles in an attempt to make things interesting.. I've watched 2 episodes, more than enough. Basically, as a viewer, I just don't care!

Powerhouse acting from all concerned. Martin Freeman is a revelation. Loved Marco and Stacey. It has a different, fresh vibe compared to other police dramas. Season 2, is a must please.
