Father Brown: The Flying Stars (2013)
Missed this one at the time...
Filmed local to me I must admit the original airing filmed in 2012 & repeats had eluded me until tonight. Better than average storyline, great amount of red herrings until late on. Certainly one of the best episodes from that series. Also it must have been a hoot on set for Lady Felicia to be wearing an old style policeman's tunic with 69 as the number on the collar at the play rehearsal. .Yes we all know most of Glos was, and still is Church of England but they try to go by the original stories so just go along with it and enjoy the ride Just a BBC 1950's set version of ITV's Midsomer Murders..
Father Brown (2013)
Going through the motions...
Enjoyable whimsy filmed around where I live but PLEASE bring back Bunty & Lady Felicia if possible else this series will just fizzle out. Like watching the episodes just to see the local villages they film in such as Blockley, Longborough & Broadwell etc & the way they transform two of my local pubs (The Fox Inn & Coach & Horses) back to the early 50's. Excellent stories that follow the author (however realistically it would certainly be CoE not Catholic in this part of Britain, not as that matters really in the storylines.).Excellent production by the crew. The series are normally shot in the late summer to make the most of the scenery / light values.
Paranormal Caught on Camera (2019)
So awful it's good
What a lot of twaddle. Well paid "experts" take Chinese Lanterns floating across the sky (as well as the gullible posters of it) as an alien UFO invasion or similar. Yes they look a bit odd when you first see them as they hover over but for FFS this just seems a filler for the programme. Apparently these Lanterns are going to be banned in the UK soon due to the possible risk of fire in fields / ingestation of them by livestock in rural areas. Most are set off by townies down in the sticks for the weekend celebrating a wedding etc as it looks good etc & don't give a thought to possible outcomes. Must give the show 9/10 though for pure comedy entertainment by the panel of experts earning a few $$$.
Star Trek: Mudd's Women (1966)
Not the best...
Ar old when first aired in the UK @ 1969. 1. No Yeoman Rand. 2. No Photon Torpedo deployment. Ok looking back most of the younger actors were just doing
it to pay the bucks. The 3rd season was made after a petition to keep it going. Who knew back then at the time that TOS would be repeated on TV over 50 years later. The best.
The Bed Sitting Room (1969)
Quirky
Very much 'of it's time' but featuring some of the best British comedy actors going as best they could with the script. Decent reviews here (apart from the class clown one several back going on about Brexit). For the ultimate 'stay at home binge' I suggest you stock up with snacks & your favourite tipple then watch this followed by the 'Sir Henry at Rawlinson End' film.
'Allo 'Allo! (1982)
Went on a bit too long...
Brilliant script from Croft & Lioyd but it went on far too long. Should have concluded it after Series 5 ( a bit like the US produced M. A,S. H ) Just my opinion.
One Way Pendulum (1965)
Missed this one until now
Watched this tonight on Talking Pictures. I was about 5 yrs old when this was made. Very nostalgic & featured several familiar TV faces from the time (UK), Brilliant. As other reviewers have stated it looks like a hybrid of Spike / Python before their time. Obviously the Court scene is the best but watching Peggy Mount consume 10,000 calories eating in the kitchen is great. If the aforesaid genre is not your SOH then avoid it gut otherwise just enjoy this rarity.
Life Below Zero: Canada (2020)
Good series but drop the orchestra please.
Like it's sister show (Alaska) & others from the same TV stable it is spoilt by over loud background music drowning out the cast speaking. These are "reality" shows, not opera. Why not let the natural sound come through without constant background droning like some build up to a Bond movie climax. It really spoils a good programme. Just my opinion.
