Marlowe (2022)
Marlow is not an action figure
Everyone has their interpretation of Philip Marlowe. As for the books that Raymond Chandler gave us, Marlowe is most often more interesting than the characters he encounters, and more interesting than the plot. He is a loner by nature, he's articulate and funny. He plays chess puzzles and reads. He is also tough. His character is what makes you want to come back for more. The movie is fair, but it would be much better if Marlowe were actually in it. This is the eleventh interpretation of this character and it would be such a novelty if at least one would give us the character as he was created by Raymond Chandler.
Destination Murder (1950)
Gave it a six -graded on a curve
B noir is in a class by itself. In the world of B noir, you find yourself suspending disbelief without letting the offsetting inconsistencies factor in so much. B noir reality is shifted to another dimension a bit and propels itself on its own malleable logic, Not a bad place to be when you're in the mood.
As a B noir, I give it a seven.
You know something? I might to watch it again.
Don't Look Up (2021)
A sledgehammer
A sledgehammer is the only instrument that may get through. I have my doubts though.
Very entertaining. Pretty funny. The undercurrent runs dark and sad.
But, we need more sledgehammer!
Bigger, blunter, swung repeatedly.
Dom (2021)
More of the Same
At the end of the first episode I couldn't start the next.
Just didn't care. The characters are wooden and predictable.
The writing is almost interesting but not quite.
