Sonic the Hedgehog (2020)
Jim Carrey is not funny anymore!!!
I downloaded it for the kids but they didn't want to watch it so I thought as I grew up playing Sonic I'd give it a go.
The film was ok except for Jim Carrey. He's just not funny anymore. He's just doing Ace Ventura over and over.. Same style, same movements. The gag is 26 years old now and its not funny now.
Black and Blue (2019)
Very watchable
Ok it had some plot holes but it was decent and so was the the acting, especially from Harris and Gibson.
Star Trek: Picard (2020)
It's Good but not Star Trek
Patrick Stewart as usual is fantatsic as Picard as he is in whatever he does. The problem is that Star Trek NG was 1 episode or maybe 2 at the most to tell the story, this is a whole series and although very well acted seems to drag a bit.
So far 7/10 ........ Could be better
21 Bridges (2019)
Not bad but predictable
It was a pretty good watch and the acting was fine but I worked out the twist in the 1st 11 minutes 40 seconds..
Worth a watch? Yes
Good plot? Not really.
Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (2019)
Chaos
I grew up with the Star wars films since I was 10 years old. The first 2 were amazing but the third got a bit silly with the ewoks. The prequels were ok I suppose but the last three have killed it for me especially killing off luke.
This episode was just chaos. For the first 30 mins I didn't have a clue what was going on. It just cut from scene to scene without any hint of explanation. There was no story telling. It felt like there were 10 writers and 10 directors who just put together a mish mash of how they wanted the series to end
They gave Carrie Fisher a fitting send off tho I must admit.
The Mandalorian (2019)
Just like the Star Wars of old
I am a 52 year old brit who grew up with Star War since I was 10 years old, yeah it started that long ago!!
I've seen all the films more than once and been more dissapointed the further series goes, except for Rogue On, but this reminds me of when I was a 10 year old and I 1st saw a speeder, Millenium Falcon or a Star Destroyer.
Yeah it's full of CGI and it's well done but it has the feel of the the original. I really hope it continues this way and does not get carries away with itself.
This is how Star Was was meant to be!
Poker Night (2014)
What did I just watch?
I just did't get it..
It was an ok movie and having the great Ron Perlman attracted me but i'm still at a loss to the ending.
The acting was good ,the movie was not too bad and it kept me watching to the very end but at the end I thought what just happened???
Maybe I've had one too many Bacardi's.
Was the film trying to be too clever?
All I know is at the end I thought what the ****?
Worth a watch tho!!
Predestination (2014)
Amazing!!
I had never heard of this before I watched it. It was a complete mind the 1st time round.
I took a couple of watches to totally understand what was going on.
The 1st watch was like " What the hell happened there?"
After seeing it again I got it.....I think!
The acting is brilliant form both Hawke and Snook.
Well worth a watch......Or two or three!
In the Shadow of the Moon (2019)
Poor mans Predestination
The film was very watchable and I quite enjoyed but it seemed to weak version of Predestination.
Zombieland: Double Tap (2019)
Nearly as good as the first film
Normally I don't like watch sequals because they are always a disapointment but this was just as good and as funny as the the first.
If you enjoyed the original you'll enjoy this too.
Joker (2019)
I'm glad I didn't pay. Don't Believe the hype!!
If I had paid to see this I would be gutted. Joaquin Phoenix was very good, as he always is but the film was utter C**P.
I'm no fan of Heath Ledger but his Joker was way Superior.
This is just a film about a man with mental illness.
Don't believe the hype , please.
Gemini Man (2019)
Watchable
If Joker is film of the year then this is film of the decade. Enough said!!
Rambo: Last Blood (2019)
A fitting end
Having grown up watching the whole series this, apart from the first, is the best. A reasonable story and slow build up to a great send off for Rambo.
The acting was good and the violence was extreme as you would expect from a Rambo movie. The traps were similar to the original movie and nothing really surpised me but the hammer to the nuts of a baddie made me wince.
My only gripe was the ending.. It would have been so fitting to see him sit down in the rocking chair and pass away from his injuries knowing that he'd done the right thing and drawing the series to a close.
It's hard to believe this all started in 1982..
The I-Land (2019)
Lost 0.5
Similar premise to Lost but not half as good.
Starts off sort of similar but the characters start fighting almost immediately.
Downhill from there.
Street Kings (2008)
Pretty predictable but well worth a watch
After the 1st 5 mins I knew the ending but it's still worth watching. Pretty good acting apart from Forest Whittaker who, considering he can be a really good actor was way over he top as usual. Reeves put in a solid performace and not as wooden as normal.
What surprised me as that Keanu Reeves seemed to tower over Chris Evans (Captain America) in some scenes.
Well worth watch on a Friday or Saturday night after a few beers.
Night Hunter (2018)
It's not as bad as some say
Normally when I see a film with Ben Kingsley I avoid it like the plague because you know it will be so cheesey but I thought with Henry Cavill it can't be that bad.
The story was ok and the acting wasn't that bad but the editing was. It just jumped from scene to scene where the plot could have been better explained as if they were in a rush to release it.
So in a nutshell it's worth a watch with a beer or two if there is nothing better on TV or Netflix.
Point Blank (2019)
Very watchable
Normally I skip anything with Frank Grillo in but this was quite enjoyable. Not a masterpiece but good action and some decent acting and a little humour thrown in.
Perfect for a Saturday night after a few beers
Always Be My Maybe (2019)
Pretty Good
I am not a fan of rom coms but had nothing to watch and this was new on Netflix today.
It starts off pretty slow but after about 20 mins it becomes very enjoyable and quite amusing especially the parts with Keanu Reeves. The ending is predictable but it's well worth a watch.
Beyond Skyline (2017)
It wasn't that bad
I had heard this was really bad so put off watching it for months but I was pleasantly surprised. It's a B movie for sure but iv'e seen much worse. It's cheesy and predictable but it's fun and I actually enjoyed it.
Hunter Killer (2018)
It's no Hunt For Red October
Ok It's no Hunt For Red October but it's pretty good. Gerard Butler is ok in the lead but Gary Oldman spoils it for me. He is the old war dog who can't see past the cold war and want's to kill all commies and press the big red button without thinking, I suppose every war movie has to have one though. In this genre I would rate it behind
Hunt For Red October, Das Boot and Crimson Tide but well worth a watch
Occupation (2018)
Worth a watch
I really didn't fancy this but with nothing else to watch what else could I do? .
It seemed to be a rip off of Independnce Day and Falling Skies. It tried to deliver the alien invasion of Independance Day but failed due to the low budget but really pulled off the down to earth gritty resistance of falling skies.
The first 15 minutes seemed to drag and the last 20 minutes were full of cliches but for the main it was a bloody good watch.
I definitely wasn't dissapointed.
The Orville (2017)
Worth Watching
Well I watched the pilot last week and thought it was OK. After seeing the second episode I still think it's OK.
I think it reminds me of the the original Star Trek series but an up to date version. It's very tongue in cheek but with up to date special effects and CGI. It has the moral dilemma's Star Trek and Next generation had but with a little fun added.
I don't think it will be a massive hit but it's worth watching for a a little light hearted SCFI fun.
Room (2015)
Brilliant
All I can say about this film is it is brilliant.
I had never heard of this film or Brie Larson and Jacob Tremblay before I got my hands on a screener for this just before Christmas and to be honest wasn't expecting much at all.. But God was I blown away by this film.
Larson got the Oscar for best actress but Tremblay should have at least got a nomination for best supporting actor, as together they made the perfect pair on screen. Without his performance she would have never have won..
When you watch this make sure you have plenty of tissues handy, no matter how hard you think you are, you will need them!! This is the 1st film I have cried in as much since the Champ when I was about 10!
Point Break (2015)
Poor Remake
I just lost 1 hour 53 minutes of my life watching this oh so poor remake!! The original was quite decent although it did have Mr. Wooden (Keanu Reeves)but the rest of the cast especially Patrick Swayze, who was the hot Hollywood property at the time, made up for it. The original was a bunch of adrenaline junkie bank robbers vs the FBI agent sent to infiltrate them and was quite enjoyable. I must admit the action sequences in this remake are awesome but the story is just so poor.... A bunch of adrenaline junkies who want to complete a set of impossible tasks and sort of repay mother earth at the same time. Why would the FBI even get involved? Don't waste your money watching this, just watch the original as its much better! Some films are better left alone!
Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)
I wish I could vote minus figures!!
First I loved the original Mad Max films, OK Thunderdome was a bit iffy but it was OK. This has to be the worst film I have seen this year and I was so looking forward to it. I have seen others call it a masterpiece or work or genius. I don't know what planet they are living on.. No real story and Tom Hardy who is a great actor only spoke about 25 lines in the whole movie. The actions scenes are great and the whole film is action scenes but we know nothing about the characters. Most of the film seems to be a rehash of the chase at the end of Mad Max 2 But with Mad max 2 there was a character build up.This is one film I will not be adding to my DVD collection If I had paid to see this I would be knocking down the door for a refund!!!
