The Last of Us (2023)
Exciting Start
To clarify, I've never played the game and only knowledge of this before hand was that it is post apocalyptic.
Brilliant start to the episode but disappointingly became rather formulaic towards the end .
I'll definitely watch episode 2 but am a tad concerned I may lose interest rather quickly .
The start of the episode rivalled Dawn Of The Dead for foreboding menace but unfortunately it degenerated into another run of the mill Walking Dead type post apocalyptic thriller. I'm pretty sure I'll be able to guess what happens for the rest of the season .
Good enough but certainly not deserving of anything higher than a 7 in my opinion.
Top Gun: Maverick (2022)
So They Can Still Make Movies 🍿
Just finished watching this incredible rip roaring emotionally exciting amazing film !!!
Had to write my review immediately. What a film , the kind of film you always hope you're going to see at the cinema but very rarely do .
There's a trick that the writers in Blue Bloods use where the whole episode builds up to one poignant emotional moment, usually involving Frank(Tom Selleck) , where you get a lump in your throat and a tear in your eye . This only usually lasts a couple of seconds but I'm sure it's a deliberate story telling strategy. Anyway I felt like that for the entirety of this movie . Absolutely wonderful, would recommend to all .
Andor: One Way Out (2022)
This is Star Wars !!!!!!
What a wonderful episode. Exciting from the start right up to the last moment. An exceptional tv event . Great build up , great production , amazing writing . Pulsating action scenes. All happening a long time ago in a galaxy far far away .
It's gutting to know that stuff like this can be made instead of the absolute horror show of the sequel trilogy , Solo , Book of Boba and Kenobi .
What the heck have Disney been playing at ? . I know they need content but why not make good things like this instead of all the other nonsense.
It does give me hope that more of this type of thing can be made and has definitely earned a reprieve for Disney Star Wars as far as I'm concerned. Brilliant, just brilliant.
The Walking Dead: Rest in Peace (2022)
Thank goodness that's over .
Just finished watching the finale and have to say I'm completely underwhelmed. To qualify this I will say that I just watched the finale of The Wire two days ago and it's probably not a fair comparison.
I major character death , another fireball explosion to clear out a heard , some really bad human extras , some very pointless rubbish from Rick and Michone .
Not very satisfying, not very good . The guy from the horrendous Potter prequels died and was grieved and remembered far to much for such an insignificant character.
The Walkers as always were incredible , I'm glad they are evolving as the world will probably be in a better place with them in charge .
Over 170 episodes to end like this was very disappointing. I'm glad it's over but I don't believe it really is . They've left far too many alive . Expect a reboot , maybe even another crossover with Fear . Hopefully they get more competent people in charge of the franchise next time .
The Walking Dead: Family (2022)
And still they all survive..........
I've given it 6 as there was a lot of Zombie threat and gore and a main(ish) character got bitten . One also got shot but seems to have survived......
It's not a great episode, it's pretty awful in fact but I've got this far and I have to see how it finishes.
I'm hoping for a major bloodbath for the finale with many main characters getting bitten and turning. I know that won't happen but I can hope .
It's so awful, I can't wait for next Monday for it to be over . I used to absolutely love this show and can't believe I now feel about it in this way . It's been destroyed , with awful story lines , acting , casting and terrible direction.
The Walking Dead: Faith (2022)
Not great but getting better .
I'm getting hopeful now of some kind of satisfying closure. It's a fools hope but hope none the less .
The main problem being is that there is no real antagonist for our friends to win against. There's one weird rich lady with an incredibly awful haircut , who could've been done away with at any moment over the last 10 episodes. It's hardly going to be a triumphant punch the air kind of finish , especially if the commonwealth soldiers are as easily swayed as the Alexandria labour camp ones were .
It is nice that everyone is so worried about the non character that is Roselleta and Gabriel's child but maybe a bit late in the day for any of us to care ......
Aarons amateur dramatics group will hopefully be the last of our plucky survivors to wear the dead juice .
There was a bit of tension before with the firing squad but incomparable to what was felt when Lucile took care of Glen and Abraham. It's a different show now and I'm very much looking forward to it being over .
I really hope they can end it on a high , I just don't know how that's even possible? .
The Walking Dead: Outpost 22 (2022)
Nearly there .
Not only do they recycle storylines but now locations too ! .
This is so honkingly bad . It's was a first for me to see an escape from an armoured convoy because both the professional guards were having a knap . It's beyond ridiculous. I'm praying for some shocking scenes but they just don't come .
The direction is aimless , the production is shockingly bad , it's the first time in over 150 episodes that I've clearly seen Daryl's stunt double ! . The characters are miserable humourless cretins . Ezekiel really needs to do something with that peacock feather . One saving grace was that we never saw any of the commonwealth this episode and no English lawyers .
This is such a horrendously bad show .I'm hoping it has a great ending in a kind of role reversal from GOT or Dexter New Blood .
It is better than Kenobi as the children have not been rescued under a trench coat , well not yet anyway..................
The Walking Dead: What's Been Lost (2022)
Please make it stop !
Only four more episodes to go ! . This show is so awful now . It has been for a long time . Ever since Rick didn't kill Negan , probably even before then .
The last time I remember sitting on the edge of my seat for what was at the time , the best show on TV , was when Ezekiel and Maggie came to the rescue at Alexandria . I remember actually punching the air and cheering . "A god dam tiger ". Used to be such a great show and now it's in the hands of incompetent people.
I've invested so much time in it that I have to watch it to the end now . I don't think anything will be able to redeem it now . I can't really see how they're going to tie it up . It worries me that it won't really be over and multiple spin-offs will start to appear.
The Haunting of Bly Manor: The Pupil (2020)
I'm only watching during daylight .
This is good old fashioned scary stuff . Loving it so far .
I'm pretty sure I just saw the IT guy from The Office in a photo , what series wouldn't be improved by one of his go karting or Bruce Lee stories ??? 😂
Ozark: The Cousin of Death (2022)
Pretty awful as expected.
This series is so horrendously bad . I have to give 3 stars though as somehow I'm still watching . I just really want Wendy to become unalive . I don't know if there's a more annoying character in the history of television, I certainly can't think of one .
It's very concerning that this show is considered to be good . It makes you wonder about what other people actually get enjoyment from . They've obviously never watched The Sopranos or Seinfeld or The Office or Arrested Development .
The only reason anyone in their right mind can be watching this , is in the vane hope that the plot armour melts away and the whole cast ceases to exist .
The sudden interest in rap music is quite comical . Such a terrible show and yet here I am , still watching .
Fear the Walking Dead: Bury Her Next to Jasper's Leg (2020)
It'll take the edge off
I've stopped this episode half way through to write this .
I've given 3 stars as I am going to watch it all and will probably watch the rest of FTWD until the end it .
It is so awful though . I'm trying to think of one redeeming thing and I can't . It's so bad and probably always has been .
I hope there's some pay off at some point but I've been hoping that for a long time now .
All I find myself doing is thinking "what would Funny or Die say about this scene?"
It's like a humourless parody of its self .
There is absolutely no threat anymore, a bit like what happened with TWD , none of the main characters ever get killed or bitten now .
It's so terrible but I'll continue watching so there must be something, I just can't think for the life of me , what it is ??????
The Book of Boba Fett: Chapter 6: From the Desert Comes a Stranger (2022)
I wish the sequels did not exist
This was off the charts amazing. As a life long Star Wars fan I cannot describe how this episode made me feel .
I'm so gutted that the sequel trilogy was allowed to be made in the manner it was . I hope it's just forgotten about and we carry on getting brilliant stuff like this .
One of the best things I've ever watched , brought tears to my eyes and filled my heart with joy .
Midnight Mass (2021)
Thank you Drinker !!!
Watched this after a very positive review from The Critical Drinker .
It's amazing, I can't think of anything to compare it to . There hasn't been anything like it before . The weird thing is that it uses one of the most tired and overused horror cliches as the backdrop , but puts an entirely new spin on it .
7 hours of pure thought provoking escapism . I can't recommend this enough ! 👍
Ozark: Sanctified (2022)
Threat neutralised 😅
Well at least we can all rest easy now that the threat of another bedroom scene between Darlene and Wyatt has been removed .
2 annoying characters down , only 17 more to go ......
Ozark: The Beginning of the End (2022)
Why am I still watching?
This is an awful , awful show . I don't like or empathise with any characters. I love Jason Bateman because of Arrested Development, so he gets a pass , but oh dear . I'm sure the producers have gone out their way to make everyone as annoying as humanly possible ,hopefully there will be some payback in the end with a massacre of some kind .
I am giving 5 stars though as I am still watching , even though I've hated it since about the second episode , I want to see what happens !!!!!.
I can't really fault the acting apart from the pile of blankets that tried to pass itself off as a baby in episode 4:1 .
It looks amazing as well and the lakes provide stunning backdrops to the idiotic goings on .
Oh well hopefully by spring TWD and Ozark will be finished forever and I can go back to watching Hannibal for the umpteenth time 🍷
