Nightmare Alley (2021)
I Predicted the Ending After Ten Minutes
How? Because of the movie's time period and the hoary "rise and fall" story of Bradley Cooper's character. What better way to end it than his becoming the pathetic chicken-chomping geek which was heavily featured at the start?...
Director Del Toro has once again produced an unpleasant snoozefest. (At least "Alley'" isn't quite as repellent as his overhyped interspecies sexcapade "The Shape of Water.") It's nice stylistically, but not a lot happens between the few dramatic scenes. Additionally, there are plenty of WTF moments and plot holes. And I've never seen two more unappealing femme fatales (Cate Blanchett and Toni Collette) in a single film.
Not recommended.
Reacher (2022)
Unwatchable
It's one thing when Tom Cruise -- who can actually act these days -- plays a larger than life guy who can kick ass, but quite another when a huge, muscle-bound, grunting and squinting ape tries to do so. It's just pretentious, phony Hollywood garbage.
The Shape of Water (2017)
Overhyped, Overrated
It's sort of a darkly comedic, modern day "Creature From The Black Lagoon," but goofy and attempts to be "woke." I don't know about you, but having sex with a fish-creature just isn't very appealing. Its Oscar wins are a joke.
Snowpiercer (2013)
One of the DUMBEST Movies Ever Made
The premise makes no sense and leads to many questions, not the least of which is: Who's maintaining the tracks? A perfect example of filmmaking that cares not a whit for realism or logic, and considers its audience morons.
The Power of the Dog (2021)
Unwatchable
Any movie I quit on after ten minutes gets an automatic 1-star rating. In this one, two Old West brothers who couldn't look more dissimilar spout boring dialogue which could put an insomniac to sleep. One "lovingly" calls the other "Fatso." It's yet another written-and- directed-by-the-same-person film that should have never been greenlighted. These egomaniacs need a producer who can say "NO!" to them.
Benedict Arnold: Hero Betrayed (2021)
A Solid Look at REAL History
For a low budget indie, this film does a great job of showing the importance of Arnold's many and crucial military contributions to the American Revolution. He was indeed a hero on the battlefield -- and his story is a far cry from the simplistic tale of treason spun by your history teachers. Watch it and learn something! (The only reasons I don't rate it a 10 are the choice of actor portraying Washington and some quibbles over a few minor details.)
