Dark Winds (2022)
What a waste...
This script... it could have been so much better. So cliched. The direction is terrible during any action sequence. Feels very AMC.
I love Zahn McClarnon. The other 2 cops are good as well, and his wife, etc. Love the scenery. Didn't know the Navajo/Dine had the largest reservation, or that it was right around Monument Valley and NE New Mexico.
Why wouldn't they just polish it up a little bit? I appreciated all the Native American perspective, learned things I otherwise never would have. The writers room was mostly/all NA, which is great, but don't produce a cliched script. Have them add some realism. Why is it so hard to put out something decent? Don't these people watch TV for a living??
She Said (2022)
Pretty Cringe, But I Still Liked It
The entire movie is meant to be spoon-fed to doe-eyed young girls so they aspire to a better world. Every second of Zoe Kazan onscreen is meant to emphasize this point. Makes for an annoying performance. Carey Mulligan, who I usually like, has to use her deep voice to pull off the American accent.
Mentions the Ronan Farrow story, but doesn't end the movie with information about it. And who can remember at this point, other than about NBC news passing on the story to their eternal shame. Harvey Weinstein was able to get away with this for decades, and finally someone brought him to justice, at least in the public eye (at first). No wonder he kept doing it. I could say more about that, but, such things aren't said in today's world.
Inside Man (2022)
Don't Watch It
There are some great moments in this series. But too much is left unexplained at the end. Miscommunication, timely phone calls, frustrating unrealistic decisions, are what drives the plot. Some of that is expected (this is a tv show after all) but to have it be that persistent...
And it's just remarkably depressing.
The motivations of the tutor are never explained, and she does a lot that is in need of explanation. Or does it just fill the 2nd and 3rd episodes with more false suspense?
I wish I hadn't watched it. But here I am, now struggling to forget it. No redeeming qualities to the characters, no redeeming quality to its viewing.
Killer Sally (2022)
Better Than You Think It'll Be
Pretty sweet. Pretty hilarious. Pretty sad.
A tragic story. It does also have a number of hilarious moments. And great 80's steeze.
The videos she made are gold. How many videos are there out there that should be on streaming services or YouTube right now? This stuff is gold! Anything from the early days of video that is this caliber of comedy.
When it gets to the police station footage, and we can see exactly what was said by those people in that horrific situation... Both Sally and the kids are remarkably clear-headed. It is heartbreaking that she was even charged with murder. How about 3rd degree manslaughter, minimal sentence?
How many governors allowed this woman to rot in prison?
Windfall (2022)
It really is terrible
Literally nothing happens except the first five minutes, and the last two minutes. Slow, with no redeeming dialogue. It's a shame, because the opening shot is quite nice. The opening minutes, before the burglary starts, get you wondering where this might be headed. Nowhere. What an absolute dud.
The Education of Fredrick Fitzell (2020)
Wow
What an incredible movie. Can't believe some people hated it. Can't believe the low rating.
It's quite a journey. So glad I watched it, it's honestly one of my favorite movies now.
Surveillance (2008)
What a piece of garbage
Lynch loves doing dark pieces. He's the EP here, and his daughter? Made this farce. Nothing redeeming. Is there even a single witty line of dialogue? What a waste of Pullman and Ormond (and even Ironside).
