Maybe a re-edit of "The Casserole Club"?
25 January 2023
I haven't seen The Casserole Club, and there's very little info on this page for this film. If you go to the aforementioned film's page, you'll see more helpful info about the actors in Sex, Lies, and Sugar. If this ISN'T the same film redone or re-released, these actors have aged incredibly well in the ensuing 11 years. I was pleasantly surprised in this film overall. The apparent low budget shows, and some of the acting is a bit student filmish. Nonetheless, it's titillating enough, and you get some character development as well. Bob Dylan's daughter-in-law is the titular character, and the cast also has one of The Backstreet Boys!

Blamire(y) Fun!
8 November 2022
I'm a big fan of filmmaker Larry Blamire's work, starting with "The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra". This film is made in a similar style, showing a great appreciation and love for its genre (although, not the SAME genre). Mostly unfamiliar actors accompany Betty Gilpin in this homage, and she may be unfamiliar to most, unless you've seen GLOW or the Margaret Mitchell series from earlier this year (I haven't yet, but I will). Loved the spiffy period jargon, and the predictions of future science wonders. (Missed smartphones by THAT much!) It was also great seeing Sean Young in a small but very prominent role. As a plus, it's pleasantly short, not that it couldn't have been longer, but sometimes you don't want a 2+ hour commitment to a movie.

Dark comedy that hurts to watch! (But watch you must!)
19 August 2022
Poor Phillip. Unrequited love is a b***h! When I saw this listed on Tubi, I was reminded of the '90's computer game turned int a movie, about a postal worker on a shooting rampage. This isn't that film at all. Well cast and well-acted, this hidden gem has a lot going for it visually as well. I'm guessing that it had a pretty low budget, but it is put together well, and REALLY got me cringing in pain along with our protagonist. Funny, but not a belly laugh kind of funny. Being based on a true story, the credit scene shows actual footage from Phil's trial. His brother and sister-in-law should be very flattered by the casting director's choices!

For real Python fans seeing Hazel Pethig in the credits is validation enough.

Beyond nostalgia....
22 October 2009
This series is for hardcore Pythonistas (like myself), casual fans, and those discerning younguns who have yet to be exposed to their wacky, irreverent, and cerebral brand of humour. I am writing this having seen only 4 of the 6 installments, but so far it has been great. Although retrospectives have been assembled at 20 and 30 year anniversaries, this edition has enough new insights and behind the scenes characters to keep it fresh, and by far the most entertaining yet. Sharing with us some snippets of old TV shows and comedians (and in the case of T. Gilliam, cartoonist/publisher Harvey Kurtzman) that influenced them is quite enlightening. I really like the solitary black background interview format, the editors did a terrific job in melding the comments by the surviving 5.....and they all look great. Speaking of great looking, even in her mid 60s, Carol Cleveland is still hot! I also love the comments by the various celebs who are also dyed-in-the-wool fans. Depending on their age, they had similar first exposures to the unique brand of humour as those of us watching the documentary. Might have to buy the DVD for the extras too!
