Cowboys & Aliens (2011)
Yes Aliens Need Gold - Fact
I recently watched Cowboys and Aliens and was thoroughly impressed by the movie's storyline. What stood out to me was that the writers didn't simply use the western genre as an excuse to have aliens searching for gold. Instead, they incorporated a fascinating historical context involving the Sumerians and the Anunnaki.
According to Sumerian history, the Anunnaki created humans to help mine for gold on their planet, as gold was the only material that could reflect the sun's radiation. This small snippet of history adds an intriguing layer to the movie's plot, and it's fascinating to consider the possibility that the aliens in the film might actually be the Anunnaki.
Overall, I would highly recommend Cowboys and Aliens to anyone looking for an exciting and thought-provoking movie. The blend of western and sci-fi elements creates a unique and engaging viewing experience, and the attention to detail in the storytelling is commendable. I gave this movie a 10/10 rating and believe it deserves all the praise it has received.
In addition to the captivating storyline, I want to add that the performances by the actors in Cowboys and Aliens were excellent. Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford had great chemistry, although Ford came across a little over acting, but.. it's Ford! LOL. Regardless they brought their characters to life with authenticity and charisma. The supporting cast also delivered strong performances that added depth to the film.
The footage, sound, and photography were all top-notch as well. The movie was visually stunning, with breathtaking landscapes and well-choreographed action scenes. The sound design added to the intensity of the movie, making for a truly immersive experience.
While others have already praised these aspects of the movie, I wanted to emphasize that they were just as impressive as the storyline. Cowboys and Aliens is a well-rounded film that excels in every aspect, making it a must-see for fans of both westerns and sci-fi.
Nathan's Kingdom (2020)
Only watch if you are involved
TL;DR
If you do not deal with autsism, this movie is a bore and it is very slow. Do not watch. It is not a fantasy or sci-fi, but one persons life dealing with a brother of autism
This movie was spot on. For over two decades I have lived with someone similar, and even after a lengthy divorce, I am finding I cannot be without her. So this movie was real easy to watch, if not for "what-would-she-do" mentality.
Sparsely narrated by Fords character, many days you find yourself going along with your spouse, believing things are going well and dandy, and other days you want to scream. I took the screaming episode that, I went further and divorced. Yet when the smoke cleared, things went back to hunky dory, and we were a "couple" again. But always there is that feeling that this is fake, and/or they will snap out of it, but they never do.
While it did not really play a role in the movie (similar to V for Vendetta), what type of autism was not really needed. He did play this fairly spot on as well. You really could not tell on the outside that he was any different from anyone else - until you got close.
I am a sci-fi/fantasy movie, and this one in that category, which was the only reason I watched it - I HATE drama shows (I live drama, why do I want to watch a recreated version of it), yet watching this, I did not move an inch until the movie ended.
Like in real life, the other two characters did their job showing both they really can't help, and for Ford, just cant take on a relationship no matter how bad you want to. It just would not work. You have too much responsibility. There really wasn't much development with them, however it really wasn't needed.
Every persons mind is different, and that is their "Kingdom".
"...it's your kingdom, no one has to believe in it for you to be real"
Star Trek (1966)
Modern Technology follows the ridiculous
So there is not much that can be said about this series that has not already been said. So I decided to rate this in a different direction. First, interesting aspect that me and both family and friends sit and decipher what item (prop) on the screen that we are seeing, and how it has manifested in to modern technology - example the square disks used in the series, we now (or did in the 90's) become the famous 3.5" floppy disks for most PC. Monitors, even the communicators could be said to have turned in the the famous RAZR flip. You get the idea, and could probably name many more. I believe this show help perpetuated Ideas for technology of our modern times. China has already managed to teleport an atom and Musk is toying (at the time of this writing ) with "warp drive". Even years later, we are still seeking to emulate this world of technology into ours - now if we can figure out how the monetary system works LOL
Ok the ridiculous. All variants of Star Trek are extremely annoying in their various species. I am sure it has been explained away somewhere, but it still bears being brought up. It is so annoying to watch a show with various "races" across the universe that have the same genetic make up, and all speak English (to this day, I have never seen an episode referring to some type of translator issued to either staff or alien visitors) worse yet, there are scenes where multitude of races are together, and yet they all speak English, bipedal and symmetrical genetic design. All you do it alter their face, and POOF, its an alien, the rest still work.
So I applaud the author and hollywood to influence MANY generations for tech/science to keep reaching forward. This is the true legacy of this show.
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: Hard Time (1996)
Horrifying
If you get past all the silly costumes, the mere fact that all the humanoids speak English and are of a symmetrical evolution - almost all of the S. T. stories are amazing. But touched me as much as this one. It wasn't so much the story, as I felt that there was not enough research put into released cons for Miles to actually act like a released con. Didn't work for me.
However, what made this episode just horrifying is that our technology is very close, if not there already(and in use), for doing not only a "compressed" time lapse, spending time in prison as in this case, but anything. Kidnap someone, and put them through this treatment for an hour or so with any scenario, the possibilities are endless.
Yeah, this episode is very scary.
