GATTACA (1997)
I Never Saved Anything For The Swimback...
Here's a science fiction with n funky aliens, no city-sized spaceships but with pure art and brilliance. One of the most inspiring scripts I must say and very well written as well. This is one of those movies that you love along with all it's plot holes because the point it makes ultimately makes all the plot holes redundant and you can only feel awestruck by the sheer intensity of the story and its characters.
Gattaca happens in the 'not so distant future' where babies are ordered to be made out of sperms and eggs of parents and genetically engineered t perfection. A world where people assume genetic perfection to be he ultimate measure of your capacity and those who lack it are treated like an underclass is a mind-blowing concept in itself. And the there's Vincent, a child of natural birth, with a 99% probability of heart failure who refuses to play the hand he's been dealt, who refuses to believe that he can't reach the stars just because he's genome is supposedly faulty, the determined hero who'll stop at nothing to get to his goal, who's here to tell us that it's possible to exceed your genetic potentials, to tell you that there's no gene for human spirit. And the way Andrew Niccol puts it is no less than pure genius. A special mention must go to Michael Nyman whose original score raises the movie to new heights and Slawomir Idziak whose eye-pleasing cinematography makes the world of Gattaca real enough for us to get intrigued in the drama.
I know it has plot holes, like there's no way no1 notices his lenses, there's no way that he never loses a hair at d workplace etc. But then as Vincent, who's heart is 10000 beats overdue, puts it for Irene... "You are the authority on what is not possible, aren't you? For what it's worth, I'm here to tell you that it is possible. It is possible. "
or the way he put's it to his brother "Here's how I did it,I never saved anything for the swim-back."
And with these mesmerizing quotes,I too refuse to believe anything is impossible to be achieved once you truly put your 100% into some goal, then no one or nothing can stop you...Not even your own genes!
Ghajini (2008)
Compared with Memento or not,Ghajini is waste!
I had huge expectations from Ghajini considerings it's an Amir khan movie n it's 'inspired' from cult classic 'Memento'...
But watching this movie on a first day first show was total waste of precious money and time.
At 3 hour plus length,Ghajini literally drags and is enormously boring. Why d hell did they have to insert an over the top love story into what should have been a 'full action revenge movie' or something like that? The love-story simply doesn't connect and eats up almost 100minutes of time!
Many plot holes...like what was police doing when Ghajini simply kills a Woman and a lady constable knows about his plan to kill her??Aren't they supposed to arrest or question at least someone?
Why was that inspector's character(Mohit Ahalawat I think) in the movie??Just to Read Sanjay's(Amir khan) diary??
Why did those funny gangsters of Ghajini have no guns at all??
Why did the characters of Sanjay's doctor, lawyer, manager etc. not do anything to help his take revenge or at least try to calm him down?
How can a business tycoon just disappear for 2-3 years and his company still earn millions?? (The manager tells him to come back to the office or house).
And how can the face of such a successful and debonair business tycoon be unknown to everyone??Not only after the killings but also before the whole murder thing!!
The only good thing about Ghajini is it's action and violence which though is over the top and unbelievable at times,it's the only well executed stuff in the whole movie.
Amir said he found 'memento' overly complicated.Naturally I'd say, because he was busy making a remake of a Tamil movie with more style and no substance.
Compared to Memento,Ghajini is utter trash. Even if not compared,it is a boring, unoriginal, over the top and again BORING effort. It's sad to see Amir khan wasting a good concept like that.
Don't waste your time or money on this one.Especially if you've watched 'Memento' and/or don't like on screen violence.
Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na (2008)
A refreshing, subtle and youthful take on love.....
This is the kind of love story which has characters which u can identify and relate to....
This is the kind of love story that will touch you in more than one ways...
It's filmy,it's cliché'd,but it's got one of the most fresh on screen couples seen so far...that is Aditi(Genelia) and Jai(Imran Khan). Imran Khan in particular has got a lot of potential as an actor. High point of the movie is d scene in the bar where Jai gets a girl out of trouble of some jerks in his unique, non violent and funny way.
Direction is above average, cinematography is good. Background score is awesome as expected of A.R.Rehman. Although d climax is way over the top,it does make sense in it's own way... As a movie-going experience, definitely worth a second viewing....
So When Do You Know It's Love...?
