Fathom (2021)
Almost misses the point...
Described as a visual and aural wonder is partly to the point. The aquatic sequences of whales are powerful, as are the sound captures of their song. But... for a documentary that is aimed to concentrate on this important subject it is at times irritating to say the least to listen to the scientists describing their work. American accents are fine, except when they are delivered in what seems to be the fashionable way of speaking, in a voice that sounds like laryngitis, especially when accompanied by totally unnecessary music that renders the words being spoken unintelligible. Poor whales... they deserve better than this!
Willow (2022)
Abysmal
OK, I am probably decades older that the intended audience demographic, but was hoping that the first episode would offer me some rainy Sunday afternoon entertainment. And I was very soon very disappointed! The acting of most of the characters is flat and uninspired, their diction is dreadful - just like the sort of gabble overheard in the street or subway, and no more interesting. The script, such as it is, is sub-par teen angst stuff, full of 21st century clichés that jar against what little story there is. Following what is going on is impossible due to the constant irrelevant background music.
