Wish (2023)
I WISH this movie didn't exist.
Disney Disney Disney... they could've made the "Disney 100 movie" be an unfinished idea from Walt himself, but sadly went the boring profitable route. The animation is so bad, it's not a cool 3D-2D like Arcane or Puss-In-Boots. Like why did they make this. The humor is weird. It's not kiddy but it just doesn't have an age range, so expect every age range to not find it funny. I wish I knew who this movie was made for, to every age group it's a forgettable movie. And it's sad to think even with disneys 100 year anniversary they chose money over story. I tried not to mention any spoilers but I wish I never watched it.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023)
Nearly perfect.
This is the only movie I've ever watched that was "nearly perfect" and what did i think was Imperfect about it? Only one thing, the music was less good than the last one. A solid 8/10.
The animation 10/10
The story 10/10
The characters 10/10
This and Everything everywhere all at once are THE multiverse movies.
This movie does the impossible, dare I say it's the best animated movie objectively.
The art and color grading, the characters and story, it's clear to me that this is a love letter to animation and all Spider-Man characters.
And the ending reveal was so planned out yet so hidden in plain sight. It's a masterpiece.
Chainsaw Man (2022)
This anime is GENIUS
PRO'S:
1: The animation is INSANE, and I love how it blended CGI and animation to create things that are normally impossibly, and realistic and complex animation's to make
2: The story is going somewhere. Makima is definitely hiding something, (and might even be evil)
Which is just so cool to see.
3: Worldbuilding, it starts off really weird and the world feels kind of goofy, but then lthe demons and curses slowly start to make sense, and it's such a great feeling to understand everything happening by the last episode.
CON'S:
My only beef with this is sometimes the show gets a bit weird, I'm used to Anime's being sexual and whatever, so it's not a red flag to me personally.
And Im not a "ThE ChArCterS Are BlaNd" 😭 person, because we met them only 7ish episodes ago, and power is funny as hell. It's just evident they're still hiding things, which makes it all feel suspenseful, but sometimes weird. And it prevents us from seeing the characters fully.
Thought's: This anime is amazing, unless you're an animation "purist" who doesn't like mixing mediums. Or you don't like action shonen/seinen animes.
This anime is almost perfect, and where it has flaws im gonna give it time to grow.
10/10.
Lady Bird (2017)
It's been a month since I've seen it but it's still stuck with me.
The bad side of the railroad hit home for me, because I made that exact invisible marker. And I lived on the "bad side"
It's just so accurate and relatable, and actually knows what teenagers are like
- The popular girl isn't bratty.
- The band kids are total weirdos (no offense to any band kids reading this)
- Her best friend and her weren't super close like what I see in most medias, of best friends.
And how realistic it's ending was. How movie moments don't exist, and that's what makes them movie moments, like how her mom didn't hug her, and when she came in the airport to say goodbye she was already gone.
That is real life... and this movie is nothing but reality.
This Is Us: The Train (2022)
A lovely ending to life.
The visuals are genius, the music is perfect, her death was perfect for her. I love how it tied in Rebecca's life perfectly. This episode is flawless. As a person who has known many who have died from dementia. It's painfully accurate to watch them deteriorate. I love this episode and the last few for still displaying Rebecca's beauty even as she slows down.
This episode gives me more closure with all the family I've lost to dementia.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)
They ruined Wanda. And made WandaVison make so sense 😐
She moved on in WandaVison... that was the point of wandavision. But sadly we can't get a female Marcel character that doesn't die... OUR OLDEST ALIVE FEMALE LEAD SUPERHERO IS CAPTAIN MARVEL... AND NO ONE LIKES HER...
I also hate how they made wanda use witchcraft. Wow we have a female villain. But she can't use dark magic or good magic for evil. Nope she has to do witchcraft bc she's a mentally I'll woman. And when doctor strange uses witchcraft he's the hero and even gets a third eye and meets the love of his life (in the comic's)...
The writing was bad and they only stayed in 2 universes...
As a guy I hate to say it but some guys can't write women. And this movie is evident of it... atleast my brother is attracted to scarlet witch so we did get some laughs in it.
Anyways I'm so disappointed in marvel.
Better then the externals though but they need to step up their game.
Amphibia: The Hardest Thing (2022)
Wow.
I've never seen an ending like that...
This is undoubtedly one of the best animated shows of all time...
Everything even Anne's resurrection made sense. And they didn't do it in a "You're made out of a statue but we're gonna cry so you wake up" trope filled way... she got to be alive again for being good. I've never seen any media do that trope like amphibia. God this show is amazing...
And how they didn't stay friends in the end is realistic. That much trauma and splitting of interests makes complete sense why they all stopped communicating with eachother.
Just wow...
The Owl House (2020)
Boring. And all the characters are the same flavor of emo
I can easily imagine Every character could fall asleep listening to Bring me to life.
And it's also witchy. I don't think a TV Y7 show should show Tarot cards. Or possession.
Especially in a positive light. And as a non religious person I hate the hidden message of organized religion bad.
I was raised in a cult, and it's not fair that the writing acts like all religion binds you down.
(The writer mentioned it in an interview)
Also I hate lumity. And I hate how instead of there being a normal show with a W/W couple we have to get a Draco Malfoy x Harry Potter as it. 🙄.
And we get luz. SHE HAS NO FLAWS OR PERSONALITY.
And we got the worst enemy's to lovers I've ever seen.
And the story is just emo and pointlessly dark.
And the writing is just tell with no show.
In season one it was "Edas the strongest witch"
And never shows it. And when they do she loses.
And wouldn't they arrest her if they knew her stand existed. The logic is awful.
Also the main villain "Belos" clearly represents Dana's view of Christianity. HES LITERALLY A WITCH HUNTER.
And I really don't like slander of any religion tbh.
I'd freaking love it was about colonization like what happened in Ireland with peganism, like that would be an interesting villain but nope.
And every character has mommy issues. 😐
E V E R Y C H A R A C T E R.
Even the weird red girl with a hand on her had HAS MOMMY ISSUES.
But srsly I wouldn't recommend letting your child watch it without guidance. It's hateful towards religion, and not in a "religion isn't for me way" which is a pretty good prespective. But it's in a
"Religion is bad" way 😐
Also lastly and my biggest beef
I'm so disappointed in Disney. Bc when we get an LGBTQ+ character it's either witchy or they're a villain, or a dog for half of it. 🙄
Bluey (2018)
(Not a parent) but I watch this show in Japanese to learn japanese
It's great! But like most children shows parents should guide the child's understanding of this show.
It's a great take on Australia,
And I love how it's funnier for older people to. Without uncomfy "adult" moment's.
It can even help parents engage with their children more. Which not many shows do. If I ever have children I'd have them watch this.
My only beef with this show is well... their father is a little to perfect for children... but it's still better then the stupid father trope, or the father that doesn't punish their kids. But sometimes he seems a bit unreal. And no joke. That's my only beef.
With some kids shows I can talk about how their overstimulating and can cause HDHD (like coco melon) but this show is very charming and slow paced yet interesting enough to engage all viewers.
There's like 3 episodes I don't like. But for a show with 170 episodes that's impressive.
The characters are very respectful.
I do think bandit (their father) is a bit neurologically divergent. And after I had that realization the character seemed way more animated 🥁. And now with season three it's mentioning his flaws of always being way to down for things.
It also shows the parents cleaning, doing jobs or being to busy to do things with the kids sometimes.
Which is super realistic. And I've never really seen that in any other cartoon besides Arthur before this.
It's a great show.
Supergirl: Kara (2021)
That's a bitter ending
They sidelined the entirety of the seasons plot
And wrecked it in 5 Minutes...
This awful episode tried to make you feel happy and it's all contradictory LIKE KARA LITERALLY CANT REVEAL HER IDENTITY. Remember Ep 100 How her and all her loved ones got murdered?
Not to mention how stale all the characters were
(Besides cat grant Girl boss forever)
Also Nixly shouldn't have gotten the same punishment as Lex. She chose not to kill Esme And she got the same punishment while if she did kill her, she would've been fine... That message is awful like this episode.
And that's not even talking about supercorp. That's just the episode as a whole...
