Squid Game: The Challenge (2023)
The review-bombs are completely UNJUSTIFIED.
First and foremost: This is a reality tv show. Anyone who came into this with the expectation that it was going to be Squid Game: Season 2 will be disappointed.
That said, it seems that a large majority of the people rating this show 1 star are simply confused. I see a lot of people complaining that the show has been Americanized and ruined. These people are being completely over-the-top given that the show isn't even connected to Squid Game other than the set.
This is a well-done reality show. I watch a lot of trashy reality tv shows and this is pretty par for the course as to what you would expect.
It's not the best thing I've ever watched but it is definitely entertaining. Excited for the final 5 episodes to drop!
Sick (2022)
If you're only watching this because of Kevin Williamson... don't.
This movie was just bad. The COVID plot was bad, the characters were boring, the motive was dumb (even though it -sort of- made sense from the killers' psychotic mindset.)
The actual setting and the cinematography were the only positive parts of the movie for me. Almost all of the COVID stuff felt extremely forced.
Lots of predictable moments where the killer would stand behind characters menacingly, only for nothing to happen. This happened so often that it just started killing any suspense. The boyfriend was bland and unbelievable - especially his introduction where he sneaks into their cabin after beating on the door and scaring the girls - there was no explanation for this, other than 'lol I was on the phone doing a job interview'. Any normal person would've announced themselves or even said 'I was playing a prank on you', but nope, they tried to make it seem like a totally normal interaction. So weird.
The mom running on fire at the end was hilariously bad. The guy swimming under water for 5 minutes without alerting the main girl was also laughable. The killers didn't feel threatening or scary because they were just wearing ski masks. They felt completely human and beatable. The killers cared so much about COVID infection, yet all of them exposed themselves to someone that they knew was infected.... The list just goes on and on.
Some of the chases and more brutal moments were good, but literally everything else fell flat.
1899 (2022)
This is one of the worst series I've watched in recent history.
I wish I were exaggerating. I'm usually pretty generous with my reviews, but I can't even explain how disappointed I am with this show.
I, like many others, came into this show with high expectations after watching and loving 'Dark'. That was a mistake. Comparing this show to Dark in any way is a mistake.
Literally nothing happens in 90% of every episode. At the end of almost every ep, something inexplicable happens - and instead of being left in awe, you're left feeling angry because you have even MORE questions with no answers. You get no real answers until the last 5 minutes of the finale, and even those answers feel cheap.
Not excited for Season 2 and will not be watching. I would be surprised if a Season 2 is even green-lit.
Again, I am usually very generous with reviews. I don't go out of my way to review things in-depth unless I think they're exceptional, or utter garbage. This show, unfortunately, falls into the latter category. Save yourself. It's 8 hours of television that could've been squeezed into an hour or less.
The Void (2016)
What a trash movie.
Had medium expectations.. one of the worst movies I've ever seen. No likable characters. Dumb motivations. Vague as hell. Horrible acting. Do not watch this garbage unless you want to waste an hour and a half of your life.
