Prey (2022)
TWO should be fired
In the original Predator, a group of highly trained and heavily armed mercenaries hand their hands full with one of the most efficient hunters in the universe. All but one were wiped out. In Prey, that alien hunter met its match with 5' 5" tall coming of age teen, Naru, and her hatchet tied to a rope. This movie could have been good. The scenery was well shot and the acting was way above par. But the story! I think they could have pulled it off had the whole tribe worked together, with their knowledge of the land and the surrounding areas, to merely survive the predator. In the end, there needs to be a couple of people fired. The one who wrote the script and the one who approved it.
Ricky Gervais: SuperNature (2022)
Great!
This was peeyourpants funny! What's even funnier is the people who take offense to Ricky simply echoing back liberal talking points. Who's taking offense? 7/8 of the Rotten Tomato critics, for instance. The only thing I didn't like was that it only lasted an hour. I can't wait for the next one!!!
Firestarter (2022)
Meh...
First the good: Ryan Kiera Armstrong was exceptional! This young lady can act! I would argue that she easily outdid Drew Barrymore in the original. Also, Michael Greyeyes was an outstanding bad guy. He was cold, ruthless, and scary. Now the bad: Everyone else was miscast. As for the story, it was rushed in the beginning and dragged in the middle. I remember thinking that Charlie's parents in a university experiment is just too big of a story to jam into a 10-minutes movie segment, and that it would probably make a much better TV series like they did with The Dead Zone. The ending of the movie picked up and was exciting, but not enough to make up for the lagging middle.
Star Trek: Picard: Farewell (2022)
Priorities
If you understand the writers' priorities, it makes sense why this episode was a disaster. First and foremost, the writers thought it was a good idea to put Seven into a relationship with another woman. That was the entire goal of the episode. Everything after that was filler. Their virtue signallying cup runneth over.
Human Resources (2022)
Show like this
In case you're wondering why Netflix stock is down 60%, it's shows like this! It's not just bad, it's so bad that it makes you angry for wasting any time whatsoever watching it. The high reviews for this are clearly fake. What else is Netflix putting out, you ask? HE'S Expecting, Dear White People, We the People, Cuties, Growing up Coy, The Mask you Live in, etc.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix (2019)
Money grab
Jean Grey was born and raised on the East Coast. Where did that British accent come from? This is what happens when you try to bank on the success of another show without putting any effort into anything else, bad writing, bad acting, bad effects, bed timing! Even in Game of Thrones, Sophie Turner was mediocre at best. If you were going to roll the dice and hope GOT was pan out on an X-Men money grab, Rose Leslie would have been a better choice.
Dracula 2000 (2000)
Meh
The casting director was probably thinking, "Who can we cast as Dracula that would make Tom Cruise's Lestat seem like the straightest hetero in the world? I've got it, Gerard Butler!" The movie was just okay throughout. The ending was really phoned in. Dracula was so formidable that an entire team of brotherhood members couldn't destroy him - they could only imprison him. But one girl at the end, without any effort whatsoever, could do what an entire brotherhood throughout the ages could not? It's worth watching if there's nothing else on. If you have a choice, Vampires (1998) is a better option.
Jackass Forever (2022)
Need a new keyboard and pair of drawers
If you're a Jackass fan, you'll be laughing as soon as the opening credits finish conclude. A lot of good pranks, well thought out, and clearly well funded went into this. One of my favorites was the grandpa at the furniture store! A new character, Zack Holmes, is a total rockstar in this. He should have been included from the very beginning. It was also nice to see Rachel Wolfson step out from behind the camera and get involved as well. Jackass Forever is worth watching at least twice!
Hellbender (2021)
Very cool!
This is how movies should be made. It starts with a good, original idea. Add to that a good script. Then bring in people who can act. Finally, find someone who knows what they're doing when it comes to filming and editing. This was fun from start to finish.
Antebellum (2020)
Sooo close!
The first 35 minutes of Antebellum were intense. Then it takes a left turn and gets preachy. The left turn was okay - it was actually necessary, but the preachy parts ruined a lot of good work! If the editors were to try again and get rid of the parts where our lead character spends her life blaming all the woes of black America on the patriarchy and the 1620-2015 slave trading years, it can be salvaged. Janelle Monáe did a phenominal job in this movie. It's too bad that the writers thought she should be an activist instead of giving her a regular life. Other than the annoying woke injection that begins 40 minutes in and remains until 1 hour 10 minutes, the story has potental. And all the M. Night Shyamalan references on this board will finally make sense.
The Cloverfield Paradox (2018)
Real sci-fi!
This was really good; however, it didn't need to piggyback on the Cloverfield name. It could have easily stood on its own. The overall feeling reminded me a lot of Event Horizon. The idea of everyone in the near future being able to speak a little Chinese brought me back to Firefly. And the dimension jumping reminded me of Stargate Atlantis' The Daedalus Variations. Ignore the name Cloverfield and give it a chance on its own merits.
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (1999)
Season 23 fully woke
After 23 years of sexual predators, child exploiters, kidnappers, and murderers, we have finally come to the greatest threat ever..... Pro US, right wing leaning Christians. One of my favorite shows has gone fully woke.... and it's heartbreaking. I've got $5 that says this is the last season.
Highway to Heaven (2021)
The stariway is woke
If you look at the highest scores for this film, you'll notice the reviewers have ONE review in their history. What does that tell you! What we have here is a beloved 80s series that won't fly in 2021. Male lead? No, no, no. White lead? Heaven forbid! In their effort to erase the past, the producers seemed to have forgotten to tell a good story, which is okay because that was never the intention.
Meet, Marry, Murder Hosted by Michelle Trachtenberg (2021)
I'm conflicted
The stories are interesting and well documented; however, I'm not sure which is worse 1) Michelle's narration as if she were given a valium or 2) the cringe writing that Michelle reads off the teleprompter. Off the top of my head A) They moved next to a lake, which I find fishy B) In the end, it was all about the Benjamins C) The investigator didn't think that was Kosher. I started my score with 10 because I love crime documentaries, but - 5 for Michelle's strange demeanor and the bad writing. They would do well if their narration followed in the footsteps of Forensic Files.
La Brea (2021)
So far so good
I'm 5 episodes in and STILL interested! The storyline is a lot of fun and the acting is exceptional. Best of all, no woke politics whatsoever! I do believe, however, that many of the low ranking reviews are either fake or made by people who saw the show's title and posted what they think the show is about. That being said , don't trust me or them. Just watch the first episode.
