Cinderella (2021)
Well done
I enjoyed this a lot. Beautiful sets and costumes. Fun musical numbers. Interesting characters. Some of the comedic moments came across a little slapstick, but overall very quirky and cute movie. I loved all the diversity they brought into the movie.
Afterlife of the Party (2021)
Odd set up
I suffered through the beginning hoping it would improve.
It was strange to make Cassie's Birthday the event to highlight that she was a 'selfish' person who just wanted to party. I mean, she is single and 25 and it's her Birthday. Her best friend Lisa wants her to stay home. When Cassie wants to go to her Birthday party Lisa comes but is whining the whole night. We were supposed to feel sorry for Lisa but the way the beginning played out I just thought Lisa looked like the jerk who thought she was better because of her job and her 'chill'. At 25 people are at all different points in their life and that is perfectly ok. If they would've made these characters a decade older than maybe MAYBE it would make more sense (but probably not since they chose the main character's Birthday as the introductory scene). They did a poor job of explaining why Cassie was so bad she couldn't go to heaven.
If you can get past that weirdness there is some good dialogue and introspective moments. I just thought the whole set up stained the rest of the movie for me.
He's All That (2021)
Pleasantly Surprised
I turned this on because it was #1 on Netflix. And I enjoyed She's all that.
Aside from Addison I didn't know who else was in the cast. I was surprised they had a variety of actors and actresses. The acting was good, the script was good - I actually laughed out loud a few times. The characters each had unique personalities. I did cringe at the dance scenes and a moment at the end when Cameron comes riding up to the high school on a horse. At least they showed a truck and horse trailer in the background so it seemed more believable cheesey in that moment.
I think the 1 star reviews are incredibly unfair and perhaps only so because of 'tiktok' hate. I'm in my 30's and looking at this objectively I would normally rate it a 6. Pleasing, cutesy, teen rom com. I would even watch it again. Rated a 10 to balance the absurd 1 star reviews.
