Road House (2024)
Everything that's wrong with Hollywood
As someone who lived in the Florida Keys for 15 years, I find this movie insulting at best. The fact they couldn't even be bothered to film it on location is pathetic. Why bother saying it was in the Keys? Just say it's California and be done with it. But what I find utterly disgusting is the depiction of the Florida Keys people as backwoods and corrupt. Typical Hollywood elites who have probably never even spent time in the Keys. The locals are brilliant, fun, creative, welcoming, hospitable and take care of their own. It truly was a sense of community where everyone lived a kicked back, enjoyable, nonjudgmental, chilled lifestyle. None of the PC, clique stuff you see everywhere else. LEO was far from corrupt. Outside of that, the movie appeared to be, at best, a parody of the original. No character development whatsoever. Just a bunch of poorly comedic characters beating each other up. Definitely a low point in Gyllenhaal's career.
Justified: City Primeval (2023)
Why, oh why?
I think I'm being generous giving this a 6. I only did so because Raylan (Timothy Olyphant) is back and I was very much looking forward to this spinoff.
What's driving me insane is the daughter. First, she's not the right age. Second (and most annoying) is there is no way on this earth Winona (Raylan's ex wife) would ever raise such a stringy, unkept, foul mouthed, belligerent, loser brat. Her character is totally unbelievable and ruining the show for me.
Second issue is the criminal/bad guy/nemesis. The criminals in the original Justified did what they did for some type of reason - primarily because they lived in a poor backwoods mining town and they either wanted to survive or they wanted to thrive without earning it. This bad guy just seems like a psychopath who murders people for the fun of it. It's only the second episode and dude has killed 6-8 people so far. Why?
The original Justified was somewhat believable. This one seems like the writers just phoned it in without having a clue what the original was about.
9-1-1: Lone Star (2020)
3 Stars is Generous
It had this underlying premise that it could have been a decent watchable series. That's about 20% of it. The remaining is 80% pure unwatchable crap! Just flat out bad. Won't watch beyond the first episode. It was hard enough to get through that. What a total waste of Rob Lowe and Liv Tyler. Don't even understand why they signed on for this. It's embarrassing.
When They See Us (2019)
They Just Couldn't Resist Injecting Political Propaganda
This was a very good mini series about a very, very important topic. However, I almost stopped watching early on because they just couldn't help themselves by including Trump and making it political. At that point, I almost turned it off because it was then just another piece of political propaganda. I'm glad I didn't stop watching. But it sickens me they took something so very important, something that had a real world impact on these boys and their families and couldn't help inject political propaganda.
Peppermint (2018)
Is Jennifer Gardner Broke?
Is Jennifer Gardner broke? Is Ben Afleck not paying child support? I can't think of any other reason she would make this c-rated movie. If this was her attempt at coming back as an action hero, all I can say is she totally blew it.
Jack Ryan (2018)
Loved it!
John Krasinski is awesome! Although nothing can beat his role in 13 Hours. Great plot. Looking forward to a second season and more!!!
You Were Never Really Here (2017)
