Ah Long dik goo si (1989)
A Hong Kong classic that hits the spot
Several Hong Kong films (for me) have a confusing start, it feels like a messy compilation of moments yet but as the story goes on it truly gets better and better. Brilliant acting by all the cast especially Kwan Yuen Wong (Porky). A well written story with great characters. A true Hong Kong classic that hits the spot. 9/10.
Silver Linings Playbook (2012)
A must see film
This film shows if you have a well-built character and a good story that gives you a new perspective of something it can truly be a film that you will remember for a very long time. Such a beautiful film and must-see. 10/10.
Mou gaan dou (2002)
This is the first time I've watched a film from Hong Kong and I'm craving for more.
The first 20 minutes was very confusing for me, I've never watched a film that have an opening scene like that before and as is gradually goes on it started to make sense. Every shot is effective it has something to the story, the score is also very helpful to build tension, the cinematography is unique yet meaningful, the character is well built, and the acting is phenomenal. The last sequence still leaves me shocked. Overall one of the best film I've seen. 10/10.
Ojing-eo geim (2021)
9.5/10
Acting, Directing, Production Design, Score, Writing we're all phenomenal. I minus 0.5 because the VIP's sounds so textbook and cringe.
Gone Girl (2014)
A thriller that actually thrilling
It is one of the most disturbing films I've watched, I feel stressed watching the film. Rosamund Pike was amazing, she played the psychotic role well. The ending was good, it shows that Nick has lost and is now under Amy's thumb. Definitely worth the watch.
Sicario (2015)
8/10
Acting is all amazing, all of them are addicting to watch. The score was also a major key to bring suspense throughout but for me, the pacing is a bit too slow. Overall a good movie and leave me excited to watch another Denis Villeneuve films.
The Truman Show (1998)
Thank God I click on this film
The story is very unique, I've never watched a film like this ever. The one who wrote this is a total genius. Watch it and you will understand why.
(avoid any spoilers, it's the best when you watch it while knowing nothing about it)
Chinjeolhan geumjassi (2005)
Disturbing and hard to follow
From the start, I was confused about what was happening, there were so many things to follow but towards the end, it's when I understand what's happening.
Top-notch acting by all the cast, Super disturbing and I feel uncomfortable while watching it, but I guess is Park Chan-Wook style.
Yakuza to kazoku: The Family (2020)
Love this movie
Even though it's only 2h 16m long but it feels very slow, but it's very worth it to watch I don't want to give any spoilers but the ending was a bomb.
I can feel the family-ness of the yakuza, the acting and dialogue were amazing, it delivers all the emotion. You can see the progression of every character.
Very good movie. Highly recommended.
Yangguang puzhao (2019)
One of the best family films I've watched in a long time
This movie feels so real no oversaturated drama.
As an Asian, this movie is very relatable.
Even though it is quite a slow film you still want to watch, every character is so rich you can see their growth throughout the film progresses. The dialogue was simple but it delivers all the emotion. The score and was also amazing.
Highly recommended.
Gisaengchung (2019)
One of the best movie I've ever watched
A true masterpiece from Director Bong Joon Ho.
I've watched this movie more than 10 times now and still amazed every time I see it, The attention to every single detail is unbelievable.
Director Bong really stick to the Chekov's Gun rule. Every element from the start until to end connects with each other. Every scene is necessary.
The cinematography and production design really helped the contrast of the Kim's and Park's family.
Recommend to watch both color and black and white version. The black and white gives it more contrast and texture, but some scenes doesn't really work because yet this movie wasn't intended to be a black and white film.
