Léon: The Professional (1994)

Léon: The Professional is an action film about a 12-year-old girl and a hitman. In the beginning, the girl went out shopping for groceries as her family was being murdered in the apartment. When she came back, her neighbor took her in. Her neighbor happens to be a professional hitman. It started off excellent, but it went downhill. The girl had a crush on the hitman and professed her love. The man was uncomfortable at first (as he should be). What I don't like is that he didn't tell her off. When he "told her off," he was only talking about his ex, not the age thing. I get that the girl was exposed to serious stuff that she wasn't supposed to see so she matured faster. And that she started this weird love thing. However, she was a CHILD! She most likely saw the hitman as her white knight so she fell in love. What I don't like is that he didn't tell her off. If it wasn't for Natalie Portman's amazing acting, this film would've been zero for me.

Stand by Me (1986)

Stand By Me is a story about a group of young boys traveling on train tracks to find a dead body. It was the summer before junior high in the 1950s. On their journey, they learned more about their friendship. It is a great film. The storytelling is wonderful. I recommend this movie if you are in the mood for growing-pains (metaphor) friendship.

Girl, Interrupted (1999)

Girl, Interrupted is about this young woman's experience in the mental ward in the 1960s. Watching the movie feels heavy (not in an emotional way). It has several major stars. Winona Ryder, Angelina Jolie, Clea DuVall, Whoopi Goldberg, and Brittany Murphy. I'm in awe of the actors' performances. They all did excellent jobs, capturing different emotions at the same time. If you plan to watch this, I need to let you know that the narrator is mostly unreliable and there are a lot of time jumps. It'll make sense in the middle-end of the movie.

My Girl (1991)

My Girl is a coming-of-age story about this 11-year-old girl, Vada. The story sets in the 1970s. It's about growing up and dealing with the serious stuff. It involves friendship, family, and childhood. It has all of the feelings such as happiness, anger, confusion, and sadness. It is one of those movies you have to see in your lifetime.

The Half of It (I) (2020)

The Half of It is a coming-of-age film that isn't about love. It's about friendship that came in. The story starts with a girl, Ellie, and a boy, Paul having a crush on the same girl. The boy asked Ellie for help with writing a love letter. I love the way the film is shot. There is no overexposure. It just lets the scene speak for itself. It is a great film to learn about love.

The Princess Bride (1987)

The Princess Bride is a classic movie that has everything. "Fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, giants, monsters, chases, escapes, true love, miracles!" It is one of the movies that are mostly accurate to the book. I like that the movie has some humor. Overall, this movie is great for adventurous entertainment and nostalgia.

Turning Red (2022)

Turning Red is a coming-of-age film about a 13-year-old girl discovering herself. In her case, it was a red panda. The film sets in 2002, in Toronto. I love the diversity in this film. It is very heartfelt and genuine. The people behind this film did such a great job.

10 Things I Hate About You (1999)

10 Things I Hate About You is a classic rom-com movie in the 90s. It's about bribing a "bad" boy, Patrick, to date the rebellious girl, Kat, so the new guy can date Kat's younger sister, Bianca. It starts stereotypically, but eventually, it wasn't like most rom-com I've seen (besides bad boy thingy). It's a great movie for nostalgia and the warm feeling.

But I'm a Cheerleader is an iconic LGBT+ movie. It's about a cheerleader who got sent to the conversion camp by her parents and "friends" because they suspected she was a homosexual. When she was there, she met a rebellious lesbian teen. She was questioning her sexuality. It's a satirical movie, combating LGBT+ stereotypes.

So Undercover (2012)

So Undercover is not a good movie, but it is not the worst. There were several things that happened in other chick flicks too. It can get a bit overtiring. However, this movie is weirdly comforting. The dynamics between sorority girls are a bit different. The plot was interesting, but it is not executed well enough. I give it 6 out of 10.

John Tucker Must Die (2006)

John Tucker Must Die is an interesting film. The story follows a new girl, head cheerleader, hippie, and journalist. John Tucker is a popular guy in school. He is known to be a heartbreaker. The girls decided to have revenge against him. The movie is funny and good for passing time.

Hackers is a very nostalgic movie in the 90s. The movie has several major actors, such as Angelina Jolie and Matthew Lillard. It revolves around a guy who was banned from using computers until the age of 18 because of what he did at the age of 11. When he turned 18, he met a group of hackers and became friends with them. Then, they found out that they were framed for something they did not do. Even though the hacking process may not be accurate, other things that outweigh it. I like this movie because of friendship, fashion, and embracing weirdness.

Wish Upon a Star (1996 TV Movie)

Wish Upon a Star is similar to Freaky Friday, but sisters version. The story plot is ok, but it is not the best. It's about two sisters, one is good at academics, and one is a popular girl with good fashion sense. As usual, they did not get along. On a side note, I love fashion, hair, and makeup. It's not typical Disney, but most of the clothing that an actual teen in the 90s would've worn.

Mars Attacks! (1996)

Mars Attack is so ridiculous that it's hilarious. There were several major stars in it, such as Danny DeVito, Natalie Portman, and Jack Black. It's about the aliens from Mars coming to Earth and claiming that they come in peace. The movie follows several POVs, such as a guy from Kansas, a former boxer from Las Vegas, and the president. It is a very cheesy alien movie and it's great for passing the time.

How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World (2019)

I am not okay. This reminds me of Free Willy. I love that they see each other again in the end to give that closure. On a side note, the dragon world looks so cool! Go watch the holiday short after this!

How to Train Your Dragon is a really good film about friendship and overcoming barriers. It's about this boy whose community is Viking dragon killers and the rare dragon who got injured. I like the characters development and the soundtracks are good.

Bratz (2007)

Bratz is not a good movie. It has a lot of stereotypes. It was trying to be one of those chick flicks but did not achieve. The deaf representation is not good. Deaf people are not just all the way deaf. Deafness is a spectrum. Plus nobody would ever read lips that far lol. If you want to watch Bratz, I recommend watching the cartoon version (the superior)

Good Will Hunting (1997)

Good Will Hunting is a pretty good coming-of-age movie. It's about the man, Will, who has a genius-level IQ and he worked at MIT as a janitor. The math professor discovered his talent and wanted to help him to achieve his success. When Will was arrested, the professor made a deal that Will would work with him as he get therapy. Overall, the movie has good psychological thinking and it talks about certain heavy topics. There are some plot holes and the fighting scenes, in the beginning, aren't executed well. However, I love Robin Williams' acting.

Encanto (2021)

Encanto is a beautiful film with catchy soundtracks! It's about the Columbian family who has powers except one, Mirabel. It deals with generational trauma and healing. There are some scenes that are a bit fast and short. Other than that, this film is very colorful and magical!

The Matrix (1999)

The Matrix has an interesting plot, but overall, it is not the best movie. The dialogue is confusing. The romance is not romantic enough. I guess the special effects were slightly cool during that time. I do like the fashion, but wearing sunglasses all the time does not seem practical, especially if you're inside a building. Honestly, this is giving me philosophy on crack with a spice of action.

Deadly Class (2018–2019)

Deadly Class is so freaking GOOD!! It's about this school for assassins and it's set in 1980s. It has good soundtracks. I love that they went deeper in the characters' backgrounds and how they became this person. Unfortunately, the show is cancelled so they only have one season.

Colin in Black & White (2021)

Colin in Black and White is a good informational show about the former NFL football player, Colin Kaepernick, and his experiences growing up. It talks about what does it feel like to be a black person adopted by a white family.

Kiki's Delivery Service (1989)

Kiki's Delivery Service is a really good film with character development. The landscapes are gorgeous. It has witches, a sassy cat, and an airship. I like how Kiki had challenges and eventually overcame them. Overall, the animation style is amazing as usual.

Last Night in Soho (2021)

Last Night in Soho is a thrilling film with beautiful color lightings. I love the idea of the plot of the main character living two lives. One in modern times and one in the 1960s. This movie vaguely reminds me of Jennifer's Body.

My Neighbor Totoro (1988)

My Neighbor Totoro is such a cute film! The animation is marvelous! It features sister love, nature, and friendship with Totoro and others. I love that it has the climax instead of just cutesy all the way. One thing I find the flaw is that I wish the movie is longer.
