Unconventional storytelling
27 July 2023
I set about watching this flick very consciously and carefully as never have I expected that much backlash from the public about understandable concerns of the situation with the selection of the main character. In fact, this movie has tantalising moments and some sort of showmanship. However, in comparison with the original film, it is undeniably less compelling. I do realise that certain comparison of these two stories is already seen as seedy and tacky.

But, the visual effects are remarkably splendid as well as costumes. To be fair, this movie was rather atmospheric and engrossing to certain extent.

I definitely can't help but agree that the casting crew could have found a better actor for Prince Eric. I don't mean to be crass, but Jonah Hauer King is a total miscast. I still can't figure out why he had such a wacky face expression as if he had sinusitis and was about to blow his nose all the time.

The way Awkwafina voiceovers Scuttle was quite impressive. I'm convinced that the original movie has all the well-deserved positive appraisal and acclaims, and every single one has already extolled it. But the truth is the present-day movie industry endeavours to do its best to revive a supposedly long-forgotten masterpieces of the past which are indeed still strongly imbedded in our minds. And the thing is they don't need to be improved or altered by any means.

Even though there have been ample attempts to draw attention to minority groups, these deliberate, and in some cases desperate, efforts will undoubtedly incur significant costs in the long run, which are clearly recognised even now. Nevertheless, I don't intend to rebuke or reprimand the crew involved in this movie-making process. Just a quick reminder that such purposeful obtrusion could be jarring and.disingenuous for someone.

Resurrected from the ashes
13 March 2023
I was amped. Truly, I've never considered Brandon Fraser as a serious and profoundly dramatic actor, but this piece of work immensely shifted my mind! Generally, I'm a bit sceptical to accolades and worldwide acclaims of the movies I do not intend to watch. However, this flick has definitely proved me wrong!

They said that Aronofski had been looking for the suitable candidate for this role for 10 years, and it was surely worth a shot! Indeed, Fraser demonstrated full self-commitment to Charlie's portrayal. Undoubtedly, that was the performance of a lifetime!

The way he played a reclusive and self-deprecating character after such long pause in his career was excellently executed! Given the fact that he has been through a lot (from derogatory and disingenious comments of movie critics about his acting skills straight to well-deserved recognition and standing ovations at various film festivals), he managed to endure all this fuss in his life, take the plunge and conquer the world!

This movie make my heart ablaze! Hats off to Mr. Fraser and big thanks for his inconceivably inspiring comeback and baffling performance!

I beg your pardon, but...
11 February 2023
I used to think that the most contemptible movie I'd ever watched was "Martyrs", but never have I thought I myself could be that dense! I dare to say that this piece could honourably be the most heinous and repugnant ever made in cinema history. I have a huge background of watching edgy and extremely provocative films, I'm also fond of high-quality slashers and suspense ones. Despite that I'm absolutely disgusted with so-called moral and self-proclaimed philosophy that I happened to hear from the director of this flick. Other than that, I was immensely disturbed when I saw positive comments of other viewers and movie critics who intellectualized about righteousness which was so sophisticatedly incorporated in this movie.

Though I do grasp the idea of a slight metaphor when it comes to extremely cruel films such as "Saw" and "The girl next door", however, this is completely irrelevant case. From my perspective, the reason and the meaning which was clearly distinguishable in these pictures have nothing to do with atrocity and ruthlessness that were demonstrated in this piece.

I'm totally convinced that this movie should have never been made and watched. To me, this is not "the reflection of our filthy society" as it was claimed by the filmmaker, nor is it "speculation about authentic human nature" as plenty of movie experts are used to saying.

To my way of thinking, it's an abhorrent and tremendously sickening act of perversion which discredits and denigrates the field of eerie art-house films.

Repulsive, insinuating and utterly nauseous!

Don't cough, don't gag

To tell the truth, I set out not to write reviews anymore as this was completely pointless. However, on this case, I was determined to lay out one due to the fact I'm an ardent fan of Marilyn. This flick is not a turkey at all, but I simply can't grasp why filmmakers are so adamant to continue making movies about Norma Jean. Though I absolutely get the idea of honouring a person (as Marilyn has unfortunately become nowadays a legendary image, sex icon or even pretty bombshell to exploit in the modern films, but not a person to understand).

The picture is quite disturbing and somewhat horrendous - all the discreet feelings of hers were exposed, and, probably, the main goal was to portray her real personality. Despite that, I don't think it was executed correctly in some episodes. Everyone knows that her second husband Joe was immensely in love with her. Moreover, he was committed to cover all the funeral expenditures and had been sending bouquets of roses to her grave for almost 10 years. In spite of that, he was shown as a rapist and drunkard in this movie.

The acting was rather good and, to be frank, I don't grasp why it was nominated for 10 Golden Raspberry Awards. Sure, it was not a breakthrough and the topic about Monroe's private life is already well-worn, but I'm fully convinced that it was that hideous as most people suppose.

As a huge fan of Marilyn, I guess this flick was worth-watching, but, of course, not outstanding. Nevertheless, being really impartial, I would definitely say that her own individuality was more complex than just sheer desire and perseverance to be a mother and a decent wife.

Sensational jewel!!

I was completely blown away with this masterwork. Due to the fact that I'm an ardent anime fan, these series have impacted my mind significantly. No sooner did I begin to watch the episodes, I dove into a miraculous world full of war and abhorrence and betrayal and reconciliations. Though it was a bit too complicated at the end of the final season to fathom strategy and incentives of each character what they were fighting for, the way the characters were portrayed was divine!

I would totally recommend it to everyone who doesn't understand the concept of anime itself and would like to be fully plunged into the atmosphere of hyper intense battles and unexpected confessions! It will guarantee the viewer to deliver all the spectrum of enthralling and inconceivable emotions!

An eye-popping picture
12 November 2022
This is a story about self-awareness, audacity, compassion and willingness. The plot was awesomely good, the characters were incredibly portrayed as each and everyone of them had their own personality.

I'm an ardent anime fan, and, of course, if compared to the version aired in 2003, the latter one was way better. Not only did it have a lot of new heroes, but also the storyline was narrated otherwise. My eyes were full of tears and glued to the screen while watching the battle between Ed and Father.

Furthermore, the fate and background of other people such as Scar, Bradley and Ling was laid out excellently.

Strongly recommended for everyone! Hats off!

Well...I'm just a hero for fun
28 September 2022
To be frank, I have never seen this sort of anime before. Anime industry represented for me either tear-jerking and highly emotional flicks that could take your breath away or, on the contrary, utterly serious and puzzling movies like "Death Note". Despite that, I dared to watch these TV series due to the high ratings and valuable and robust reviews, and... I was absolutely blown away!

The infuriating monsters, mind blowing graphics and spunky protagonists have definitely got me glued to the screen! Although I was not fully pleased with the ending, the whole plot seemed to be pretty worthy! I could wholeheartedly recommend this anime movie to everyone who wishes to see something different from typical anime films!

Meaningful piece of art!
17 September 2022
To encapsulate, I just gotta reckon that the story about two spunky and rampant Elric brothers is worth a shot! Like in any other anime flicks there are tons of exuberant jokes, thoughtful characters and highly emotional situations that wring your heart! In fact, there is a plethora of moral paradigms that are thoroughly mentioned in this film such as retaliation for a close person, disingenious attitude in favour of personal needs and great stamina while having eternal casualities and facing with unscrupulous and snotty enemies.

A must-watch for everyone who cherishes loyalty, real friendship and wholehearted self-commitment to reaching the goal!

The thing is when people are watching anime movies, they usually do not expect that it could be extremely touching and really intense. This is what exactly happened to me though, I was recommended to watch "Ride your wave" thousands of times, however, having come across some short videos on Tik Tok really got me interested!

Even though the story might seem a bit tacky, the plot itself and the portrayal of the characters is undeniably stunning! Sure, it had me crying out loud, especially at the end of the film. Never have I ever seen such a strong bond with a beloved one in an animated movie that could intrigue you over the course of the film.

Warning: Spoilers
In fact, I was recommended to watch this anime a while ago as I immensely enjoy watching tear-jerking movies. And I really hit the spot! Utterly captivating and enthralling drama which shows that immortality is the greatest burden ever. This masterpiece perfectly demonstrates how it is possible to fathom grief and sorrow from the death of the closest people whoever they are (friends, family, companions etc) This piece of art will definitely be kept in your mind as this is an excellent portrayal of human tribulations and humanity itself!

Strongly recommended to everyone who is in love with profoundly emotional stories!

The 2021 Sci-fi breakthrough
20 January 2022
Just seen it and still got indescribable aftertaste that Danny Villeneuve has done the film of the year! Again fell in love with his vision of filmmaking, still can't believe he hasn't been awarded an Oscar so far... Apart from great acting (Rebecca Ferguson, hats off), cinematography and CGI were utterly brilliant! An exquisite piece of art combined all the aspects of a perfect flick that takes your breath away from the very beginning!

Stellan Skarsgard was unrecognisable! The concept and the plot were absolutely stunning! And, last but not least, directing - a flawless work executed by Villeneuve proved to be the best in 2021!

Enormously thoughtful and mindful piece of work! Yearning for the sequel!

It is widely believed that this anime has certain discrepancies in the plot and incoherences in the storyline. I tend to think that all those reproaches are nothing but unjustified criticism. To encapsulate, I strongly believe that this movie exemplifies specific moral values our society prefers to overlook. Two young scholars set out to instil fear and terror in Japan and execute their innermost mission- to show that the world sometimes is not what it seems.

In addition, they intended to expose all the unscrupulous and ruthless people who caused their childhood trauma, those who made them undergo all these derogatory experiments. When the viewer realises what the final aim of those terrorist acts was, he instantly sides with these boys.

Although I don't clearly understand why Lisa was introduced and what particular role she played in their plans. However, the fact that Twelve and Nine were trying to accelerate the showdown between police forces and themselves, not by drawing others into their game, but carrying a secret message for everyone is undoubtedly intriguing.

Finally, the ending was out of this world. I, personally, burst into tears and went hysterical. Even though I do think that tragic ending was imminent in this case, I got this long-lasting aftertaste that those audacious teens accomplished their mission with flying colours.

Such an emotional drama
16 December 2021
I was astounded when watching that. Broadly speaking, this story makes a viewer confused till the very end. When there was a mere hesitation about who Marnie was, it occurred to me that the director was actually trying to unveil the true self of hers.

We're starting to fathom who she was for Anna after some particular details about their connection are disclosed. It is seen how Marnie was beloved by Anna and had only sweet and heart-warming memories about their past years. In fact, reflecting her past experience on the present ones turned out to have a favourable impact on her individuality. Namely, not only did she reminisced about their pastime with each other, but also cherished every single moment spent together.

Frankly, this is a great piece of work for those who try not to socialise with others. Also, that anime would be rather enlightening for those who do not fully conceive the importance of family bonds or try to disregard them.

Such a heart-wrenching masterpiece
12 December 2021
Only 10?! Kidding me?! It's truly worth 100! For the time being, it's one of the most touching pieces of work I've ever witnessed! I'm shook... Broadly speaking, this movie exemplifies lots of essential moral values our society might disregard such as compassion, faith, loyalty and dignity. I was literally staggered at both meaningful plot twists and mere passable moments. Being completely well-aware of an emotional and heartbreaking ending, I, however, could not possibly imagine that it was gonna turn out to be totally unprecedented and even unexpected!

I'm still flabbergasted and utterly frustrated with all the implication followed by the demise of one significant hero, but, hopefully, it's gonna be settled and thoroughly explained in the following episodes. The score and those final scenes will undoubtedly stuck in my head!

Totally recommended! Hats off!

Exceptional story
10 December 2021
I was hooked from the very first episode. I fact, this anime tells the story about a young boy Tanjiro, who got all his family slaughtered except his younger sister Nezuko. Unfortunately, she turned into a demon, and both of them strive to find a way how to cure her. Despite all the ferocious and insidious demons on their way, these siblings manage to find live, support, compassion and help from other slayers. Truly, the animation is eye-popping! I still wonder how the Japanese can impersonate the essence of different characters. Even the main antagonist Muzan has was excellently depicted, having his own cruel and severe intentions.

In particular, the protagonist Tanjiro really demonstrates his faith and hope in finding the remedy for his sister, and that he is ready to jeopardise his life for her sake. Even though being unhinged and completely worn out from eternal fightings with ruthless demons, he is able to protect Nezuko and never surrender. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who is about to give up and thinks that all his dreams are irreversibly thwarted.

Hosoda really nailed it!
29 November 2021
It always amazes me how Japanese animation depicts even wild creatures like wolves in this case, which apparently seem rather frightening and spooky at first sight. That's why I was so intrigued by this movie and got only one question: "How is would be possible to transform them into positive and fascinating protagonists?"

In fact, this story was so emotional and tear-jerking. I actually couldn't repress my tears while watching some scenes. As a mother, I essentially realised how it was stressful and nerve racking to start everything from scratch and move forward. On top of that, there were various exemplary situations that supposedly almost everyone can relate to. Total misconception about raising kids, gruesome loss of a beloved one, tough survival of a single parent, adolescent puberty issues and choosing one's own path - these are the key factors represented in this film.

I was sobbing when watching it! Highly recommended!

So puzzling
27 November 2021
Insidious characters, insinuating situations, sharp plot twists and astonishing ending - that is how possible to describe this movie.

Seemingly, this was the most staggering anime I've ever watched. Actually, I recognise how many films were rip-offs of this flick.

The story was about a pop-idol who was eager to start an acting career instead of being in a girl band. Afterwards, she encounters numerous mysteries - strange anonymous calls, envelope stuffed with explosives and several inscrutable murders. And the way how the story was developing appeared to be extremely absorbing.

Highly recommended for those who are fond of suspenseful, intriguing, mysterious thrillers.

Slightly bewildering, but a worthy one
26 November 2021
A well-narrated story about one girl who gained the ability to leap through time. I always wonder how Japanese directors constantly manage to portray their anime characters so authentically in terms of expressing all the spectrums of emotions, not to mention about great moral aspects! This is so wondrous! Even though there are some anime movies that don't make you shed a tear, they are actually suggestive and thought-provoking!

I've been wanting to watch this film for a while, and, finally, I got it! I did like how the storyline was elaborated, and there were several ideas that make you look at certain situation in your life from a different angle. Incredible ending, thoughtful plot, mature mindfulness in every scene!

Spectacular piece of art!

So thoughtful and considerate

The story outlines the relationships between a maimed girl and a young male student who wants to get a part-time job. This anime encapsulates a lot of essential postulates that teach us how to believe in yourself and set a great example for others.

A perfect depiction of all spectrum of emotions, ranging from mutual jokes to wholehearted love. A must-watch for everyone who was so close to lose their hope and got a feeling of being totally abandoned.

Tokyo Ghoul (2014)

Much more profound than it seems at first sight
14 October 2021
This anime is thought to be loved by thousands of people, and I actually wouldn't have laid my eye on it if a student of mine hadn't told me about that. First and foremost, this story is not about a guy who happened to be a one-eyed ghoul, not at all. This film depicts how humanity have certain prejudice and wrong notions about the ones they don't really know.

The fact is that it's kinda impossible to assess two sides of the situation and most people neglect even the chance to get to know others human nature.

Thus, these series tell us a story about resentment, indignation, disgust and despair. But, on the other hand, the viewer can witness a malicious struggle between your own identity and the evil inside you - who's gonna win? Technically, it's a debatable question that is being answered over the course of this storyline.

I was on cloud nine when I understood that such marvellous and wise thoughts could still be included in some flicks. In fact, they make you think thoroughly about you true essence and an overall acceptance of others. I'm blissfully happy to have watched such divine movie!

Fantastic plot with impeccable characters
2 October 2021
It occurred to me that I'd never taken Craig's acting seriously... until I watched this flick:) In addition, Anna de Armas was a pretty chick with baby face. However, in this movie they unraveled their hidden potential. Daniel Craig proved to be versatile and even hilarious actor who is capable of portraying diverse characters. Also, De Armas demonstrated an exceptional performance, having showed a huge variety of emotions.

The cast generally was flawless: all the A-list actors in one movie! The plot was immaculate with unequivocally intense pacing and breathtakingly unexpected twists.

Yearning for the sequel! Sensational job!

Unequivocally good one
27 September 2021
I was baffled by all those bad reviews and low scores that this movie received. What's wrong with you ppl? I was crying out loud while watching... I felt ineffable satisfaction with the animation and depth of the story. It was shown how humans are by nature greedy, ferocious and devious. However, the moral is a mutual respect and trust! Throughout the film we can notice how Raya's character was changing. Firstly, she was deeply saddened by her father's death. Then, she happened to completely plunge into the pursuit of the chunks of magic stone. Next, the rage and fury overwhelmed her after a sudden demise of Sisu. Finally, there came pride and peace after long-lasting struggles and fightings.

It seems to me that this movie would be helpful for everyone as it really brings this idea of unity and mutual support.

Neon Genesis Evangelion (1995–1996)

Probably I'm too dense for this movie
24 September 2021
That was unequivocally great anime with well-structured plot, some intriguing characters and worthy storyline. However, the last 3 episodes got me dumbstruck... Definitely need to watch Neon Genesis Evangelion: The end of Evangelion to clarify the ending. Otherwise, I see a great deal of plot holes that didn't affect the story itself by any means. In fact, so many things left unexplained and concealed.

Despite that, I really liked the idea of innermost wishes for changing the future and eradicating human race. The essence of all the heroes was clear over the course of the movie. Frankly, each of them had their own insecurities and shortcomings that could not be overcome instantaneously. And each person yearned to find their true selves.

Technically, immaculate interpretation of futuristic reality, but too complex for some narrow minded dudes like me.

Dogs are man's best friends
6 September 2021
« You got a fighter here! Let's hope for the best » - this motto defines the mood and message of this movie. Small wonder that these kinds of films make you think about the essence of life and true friendship between humans and animals. It's sad to let it go even when it's time...

That was a splendid incarnation of cordiality between a couple of owners and a apparently troublesome dog. However, in the end, he turned out to be the best one they've ever had!

Perfect acting delivered by Wilson and Aniston who proved to be very strong dramatic actors. Their characters manifested their love and loyalty to this dog in spite of many previous controversies and his uncontrollable demeanour.

Great family movie with the saddening ending!

True love will never be forgotten
5 September 2021
Have you ever experienced ineffable emotions from one particular person you'd like to live with till the rest of your life?

If not, you should definitely watch this movie to understand that true and authentic feelings for one beloved person will never be erased no matter what. Even after all those years of absence, some people stick with their memories about their first love. This anime illustrates how our human nature is unable to resist our intentions and even innermost wishes that our brain would like to forget once and forever.

3 episodes are connected to one young chap who remembers his first crush throughout his life. 1 story that helps to conceive how this invisible thread of deep affection could be a huge burden and a sweet memory at the same time.
