I recently watched Zendaya's new movie, "Challengers," and to say it was a disappointment would be an understatement. It was a boring, drawn-out 131 minutes that left me questioning the reliability of IMDB ratings. This film somehow garnered high praise, but after my experience, I can't fathom why.
From start to finish, "Challengers" felt like a slog. The storyline was heavily reliant on constant time shifts between past and future, which quickly became repetitive and tiresome. Instead of building suspense or depth, these back-and-forth transitions only added to the confusion and boredom. By the end of the movie, I was utterly disgusted with the characters. None of the three main characters were likable; in fact, they were all deeply flawed in ways that made them hard to watch, let alone sympathize with.
The film's pacing was excruciatingly slow, and the slow-motion shots towards the end were particularly torturous. It felt like the movie was trying to mimic a high-octane thriller, but it failed spectacularly, turning into a dull piece of cinema instead.
As for the acting, it was occasionally decent from the male leads, but Zendaya's performance stood out as slightly above average. However, even her talent couldn't save this film from its tedious execution.
Overall, it was a boring movie experience that I wouldn't recommend to anyone who isn't a die-hard Zendaya fan. The constant shifts from past to future were a failed attempt to capture our attention, and the last 30 minutes were so dull that I found myself more interested in my phone than the movie.
The high IMDb ratings are baffling and do not reflect the actual quality of the film. If I had known, I would have saved my time for something more worthwhile.
