Pieces of Her (2022)
Episode 1 is better than all latter epi
Good episode 1, but it went down hill next episode after episode. The slow revelation just could not cover the down hill too. I don't mind the usual dumb character; it just the story lacks of certain chemistry, something is off, and I don't care enough to analyze.
My Salinger Year (2020)
Sorry, but no
You think that a story around story experts will know how to tell a good and engaging story. But ironically they don't. What intended effects on us are bland for me. Writers wrote for themselves I guess.
John and the Hole (2021)
August real reviewers are coming in
Admittedly there are some interesting things to keep watching. Because this is such little film you just know what and where it's headed.
Put family in a hole and wait what will happen. Just suspend disbelief of how deep its hole. But that's the thing, it's like story dump, just a film shooting to fill the void of not producing a film. Story so ordinary that 1 year diploma student could actually wrote this story.
You can say, we don't understand the praise of this, a film like this could be cult following possibility? Just a writing sketch but put an experience director, voila, a movie produced.
Queen of the South (2016)
Scapegoat trick scenario alert
In Episode 12: it's twice that the supporting role, act stupidly for the expediency of the plot progression, ie, acting like crazy which is a sure thing for getting caught by supporting villain roles. This is the example of scapegoat role, resulting from either lazy writing or just how far the level of the writing ability. They're really just insulting their own intelligence, as well as ours, the viewers, in the process.
Debris (2021)
Soulless
With different debris effects each episode, the idea provides good starter. The execution of this series, on the other side, is ineffective in terms of chemistry of a film to be working out as a whole
I cannot believe I will be saying this for the first time in my life, that the male lead actor is the perfect example of a good supporting actor. Because I find him distracting. It's just when it's his scene, I found the story melt away, and difficult to focus. As a villain though, maybe has an added value.
The 100 (2014)
This telenovela deserves a screening in most remote local TV
The premise is already reaching: 100 years after nuclear, returning to earth, because the space station is losing oxygen from machine malfunctioning. On top of that, dialogs are so ridiculous, on top of that the 100 has the brilliant idea, so only kids are sent to earth. So when cheap telenovela are filled with kids, you can see how lazy dialogs (and don't forget ridiculous) are really made
Ridiculous reasoning: so when the machine malfunctioned, citizens of the ship will only have months away before running out; one of the engineers want to leak the information to citizens, risking himself with death penalty in doing so, for what? Why not tell to only them that have the capability to fix it? Why risk anarchy and himself? Lazy conflict making.
Stranger Things (2016)
Overrated generic SciFi
A boy missing. A girl with telepathic ability runaway from a secret facility
Not a thing in Stranger Things is strange. Just a generic scene after generic scene that showed up in many other series. I got no emotional feeling towards any of the scenes. That was why I put away this show for years, and now tried to continue to episode 3 of the first season, still nothing. There were many cheap tricks for cliffhanger though.
