Ascension (2014)

A ship of fools.

The plot is unbelievable and the characters act like children. Supposedly there are smart people on this mission. What have these dopey land lubbers done with the scientists?! That's the real mystery.

One story line is a murder mystery but by the end they've mostly forgotten about it. After watching the entire thing I struggled to remember when then pawned off the answer to "Who dunnit?" Mosty because by that time (the ending) I could not believe that they would leave the story so completely unfinished. This is a bad pilot, not a mini-seires. In Ascension nobody could hear the screams for closure.

I gave this 2 stars just for the production value which is not bad. The design of the ship is impractical but the execution of the design is good. It looks like an expensive show and the actors are pretty.

Benched (2014)

"Maybe I'm not dead inside!" This show has heart.

Benched is something special, IMHO. The characters are flawed but are fighting the good fight. The supporting cast is excellent and create a quirky and rich environment. I've had real laughs watching this show and that's the highest praise I can give. Thumbs up, way up!

Let me add that for a show to be great, like this one is, it has to hit on all cylinders. From writing to acting to directing, this show has what it takes. If it doesn't get renewed for another season it's a TV travesty.

If it were up to me I'd give this show two Golden Globes, so Nina could have a matching set.
