Smile (2022)
Smile for a surprise
Wow. This is Parker Finn's very first feature and he did very well. This film is genuinely terrifying and incredible. There were so many unexpected twists and scares, so props to the writing. Every single actor gave us a wonderful performance, one that I'll remember. The cinematography was gorgeous with very moody and rich shots. Not to mention, the camera movement really added to the story and there were many unique shots. I want to write this review spoil free, so I'm going to do that. The CGI in some scenes definitely could have been better. Other than that and a few moments that I didn't favorite, this film deserves a watch. Great job to Parker and the whole team.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Part VI (2022)
Giving this a 10 because of the duel
The fight between Vader and Obi-Wan was incredible! Hats off. Obi-Wan has his powers back and can now stand up to Vader. We get to see Emperor Palpatine (played by the OG Ian McDiarmid) which was awesome! Just before the end, we see Qui Gon Jinn as a force ghost (of course played by Liam Neeson). I definitely freaked out when I saw him. The episode was brilliant, except for the scenes with Reva. I think her character is cool and all, but the writers did a horrible job with her character. I feel like this episode didn't need Reva at all. She should have died at the end of episode V.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Part III (2022)
Vader!!!!
As a massive fan of the prequels, this episode gave me chills. Vader finally meets Obi-Wan for the first time after their battle on Mustafar. In this episode, we see the first duel between Obi-Wan and Vader. It's obvious Vader is way more powerful since Obi-Wan hasn't used his saber and the force (except when he saved Leia) in 10 years. I can't wait to see what's in store for the remaining episodes. Chills!!
The Batman (2022)
Incredible!
I had to write a review for this one. I was so hyped for this movie the day I heard about it. Seeing it in IMAX was the best movie experience I've ever had! Pattinson portrayed Bruce Wayne so well. The dark cinematography was beautiful as well. Even though it has a run time of nearly 3 hours, it didn't feel too long. I highly recommend this film to anyone!
Knives Out (2019)
Anyone could have done it!
One of my favorite movies of all time! Knives Out is full of comedy and mystery, and I love it! Daniel Craig and Ana de Armas gave us wonderful performances, especially Craig's hilarious southern accent. This film will keep you wondering who was behind the case from start to finish. The ending will blow your mind, totally unexpected. Visually, the film is beautiful. The house itself is amazing, definitely one of my favorite locations in any film. The color grading is on point and the cinematography is very well done. The soundtrack is also great. Overall, I highly recommend this film to anyone. You will enjoy every bit of it. So good!
Eternals (2021)
Doesn't feel like Marvel
This is one of those movies that I don't know what to think about. It definitely doesn't feel like a Marvel movie at all. I understand that they are trying to change things up, but I don't think most people are liking that decision. Another aspect that bothered me was that the majority of the film was the characters discussing there plan. There were only a few action sequences throughout the entire film. I just feel like the pacing of the movie wasn't the best. The cinematography was great, however some of the VFX shots were pretty bad. Some of it looked very fake. I did really enjoy the soundtrack for the film. Overall, the film was entertaining and there were definitely a few scenes that were badass. I wouldn't highly recommend Eternals, but I don't think it's a waste of time watching it.
The Dark Knight (2008)
Incredible acting!
Christian Bale gave us a wonderful performance as Batman. The way he can change his mood when he gets into the suit is amazing. On the other hand, Heath Ledger's performance gave me chills. Heath is my all time favorite Joker. The cinematography is very well done, they definitely nailed the dark mood, hence the name of the film. The fight sequences were pretty good, aside from some of the sound effects. And talk about explosions, holy crap! So many! Everything about this film is great, even being from 2008. So, if you like action, crime and thriller movies, The Dark Knight is for you.
Red Notice (2021)
A comedic heist!
Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot. You can't get any better than that. I'm going to say this now, this film was way better than I ever anticipated! I love action movies, especially heist movies, and this film is Indiana Jones, Mission Impossible and James Bond mixed into one. When Ryan Reynolds is present, of course there's going to be comedy. The writer did a great job because I feel like the comedy lasted from start to finish. I've noticed with other films that there may be a couple funny scenes and that it, but Red Notice has it throughout. Not only was the comedy great, but the fight/chase sequences were amazing! I was smiling the whole way through, just blown away by how the filmmakers accomplished everything. Also, there are many twists that you probably won't except, so beware. The cinematography was great, the whole film looks beautiful. The VFX overall was great, however some shots in the mineshaft scene looked a little fake. Other than that, very well done. So if you want to be entertained for two hours straight with action and comedy, Red Notice is the film for you.
Dune (2021)
Stunning visuals
This film is one of the most visually appealing films I've ever seen! The cinematography and the VFX were done so well, I couldn't take my eyes off of it. The cast is also amazing, Timothèe, Zendaya, Rebecca, Oscar, Jason, Dave... it doesn't get any better. In terms of the story, I've never read the books before so it was a first for me. The story was very confusing to me, I had to rewatch it a second time. Watching it a second time definitely helped me understand the story more. I didn't like how the backstory's were told, not shown. I'm more of a visual person, so I feel like it would be a lot more clear if they were shown. I'm still unsure of what happened to some of the characters, but I'll consider that this is Part 1. I'm definitely looking forward to Part 2 to see what happens with the Freman.
Super 8 (2011)
Very entertaining!
JJ and Spielberg deliver a master piece! The story contains so many different emotions, from sad parts to crazy action and thriller. I really love the mystery between the cops and the US Navy. I feel like every piece of the film was a mystery, till the end when everything came together. Also, as a filmmaker, I loved how this group of boys wants to create movies and they use whatever they have on hand. They luck out with some pretty sick locations due to the crazy events that occur in their town. There are some scenes in the film that made me instantly think of Jurassic Park, which is pretty cool. The VFX and cinematography looked great considering it's from 2011. I'm not giving it a 10 because I have some unanswered questions and because the ending wasn't great. I feel like the ending should have been longer. I definitely recommend this film to anyone that wants to be entertained with action, explosions, and thriller.
Casino Royale (2006)
One of the best Bond films
What a classic Bond film, one that I've watched many times. This film presents the proper way of introducing a new Bond (Daniel Craig). Craig, in my opinion, has portrayed the best Bond in the entire franchise. The villain, Le Chiffre (Mads Mikkelsen) is probably the best villain in all of the films. The way he looks with the scar across his eye and the way he acts makes him one of those villains that stands out, and one you will always remember. The cinematography is very well done, considering it's from 2006. The parkour/foot chase scene near the beginning of the film is by far one of my favorite chase scenes from any film. I really love how unique the setting was and how smooth everything felt. This film is one I consider so entertaining, so I highly recommend it to anyone who likes a good action/mystery story.
The Haunted Mansion (2003)
Still entertaining to this date
When I think of Halloween movies, this is the first one that comes to mind. I am a big fan of the Haunted Mansion ride at Disneyland, and I feel that this movie is very accurate compared to the ride. Considering that this film is from 2003, it stands up to some of today's films. The VFX were pretty well done as well as the cinematography. I do love the house itself. I also think the graveyard looks very neat too. The film does however contains some cheesy scenes. Overall, it's a fun movie to watch around Halloween. Don't be expecting a scary movie or lots of comedy.
No Time to Die (2021)
The wait was worth it
The long awaited Bond film has finally arrived and it was worth the wait. First off, let me say that I am so tired of all of the low reviews. I have no idea why most of the reviews I look at are 1 star, because this film is a 9 star, almost 10. The whole movie is filled with surprises, entertaining action, and incredible acting. Being a massive Daniel Craig fan, especially for his Bond films, it was hard to watch the film knowing it's the last time audiences get to see him as 007. It was great to see many characters from Skyfall and Spectre return in No Time To Die. Rami Malek gave us a wonderful, bone chilling performance as the villain. Touching on the action sequences, they were badass and very well done. Everything felt so real and smooth during every sequence. Comparing this film to Skyfall, my favorite Bond film, it stands right next to it. So please, do not let the mixed reviews fool
you. No Time To Die is a must see for action lovers and of course, Bond fans.
The Usual Suspects (1995)
A murderer mystery at its finest
Don't let the trailer fool you. This is my first time watching this movie, and I'll definitely be watching it again. Keeping in mind this film is from 1995, it blows my mind. Everything was done practically and very well done. Throughout the whole movie, little details were presented and at the end, they all connected. The cinematography was very well done for the '90's. I have to say that some parts were very confusing because of all of the different characters. It's hard for me to memorize ever character's name in a short period of time. That's why I'll be watching it again. The scene where all of the suspects are brought in is a classic gem. It had me laughing hard. Fun fact, that scene was completely improvised and the laughing was all real. I love it when stuff like that makes it into the final cut. Overall, I recommend this movie to anyone who likes murderer mysteries, or if you just like a little action and some comedy.
Malignant (2021)
What did I just watch?!
When I see James Wan, I know I have to see it. Ever since I first heard of this movie, I knew the concept would be unique, just by looking at the poster and trailer. As soon as you start the movie, you get pulled right into hell. It's one of those movies that leaves you wondering, "what the hell did I just watch". This film is full of gore and violence and a few scares here and there. I find it fascinating that every little detail from the movie is somehow connected to the ending. I will say this, you will be blown away by the ending. I'm giving this a 7/10 because it kept me entertained, but at the same time wondering why I'm watching this. I definitely recommend this movie to anyone who likes violence, gore and horror. Definitely a film I'll remember.
Luca (2021)
A beautiful film!
Wow! I'll begin with how visually appealing this film is. It's crazy to see the evolution of cartoons. I can't believe how close to reality this film is, aside from people turning into fish. But of course, it's a Disney and Pixar film. I really did love all of the characters and how they were involved in the story. The story itself was very unique, never seen before. It's one of those movies that puts a smile on your face. I noticed how this film had the same vibes as older Pixar films, which I loved. Overall, I highly recommend this film to watch on a Friday night with your whole family.
The Interview (2014)
Stupid but funny
When I see Seth Rogan, I need to watch. This movie is very inappropriate and was banned in certain parts of the world. I can see why. The casting was brilliant. I was constantly laughing throughout the whole film. So if you're looking for a good laugh, this ones for you. Understanding that it's a comedy, many aspects of the film were inaccurate. I won't list them due to spoilers, so see for yourself. I gave it a 7/10 because it's one of those movies where it's kinda dumb, but really funny. Overall, a very funny film to watch with your friends.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021)
A must see!
This movie was highly anticipated and it held up to my expectations. As a massive Marvel fan, this movie had me fully engaged from start to finish. The fight sequences were amazing! They were very different from most movies, making them very unique. Every actor gave a wonderful performance as well. I'm not rating this one a 10/10 because of the dragon sequence towards the end. It was awesome at the start, but it seemed to drag out a bit too long. Still very entertaining though. Even if you're not a Marvel fan, I still highly recommend seeing this film. You don't need much Marvel background when seeing this one. Obviously, if you're a Marvel fan, you will for sure piece things together. Overall, Shang-Chi is a stunning film.
Free Guy (2021)
Honestly surprised!
The first time I saw the trailer, I thought it was going to be a cheesy movie. I saw Ryan Reynolds and had to see it. The film is full of humor and action, and a great cast. It was really cool to see some YouTubers I watch in the film as well. There are many parts in the film that shocked me, so I really recommend watching it.
The Greatest Showman (2017)
Blew me away!
I initially avoided this movie because I am not a fan of musicals. My friend made me watch it and I'm glad I saw it. Everyone's performance was amazing and the original songs are probably the best I've heard in any movie. Definitely a movie worth watching.
Jungle Cruise (2021)
What an enjoyable film
If you're looking for a movie full of humor, this is the one. Dwayne Johnson, Emily Blunt and Jack Whitehall gave us wonderful performances. The Jungle Cruise ride at Disneyland has been one of my favorites and it was awesome to see a movie based on the ride. Props to the VFX team because all of the effects look amazing! I highly recommend this film to anyone.
Sweet Girl (2021)
It was decent
Don't be frightened by the low reviews. If you like action movies, you will probably enjoy this one. The fight sequences weren't the best. I feel like they were a little sloppy. The ending is a bit confusing, so make sure you're really paying attention. Otherwise, I enjoyed the movie.
Cruella (2021)
So glad I saw it!
When I first heard of this movie, I wasn't really interested. I saw good reviews online so I decided to go see it. Thank god I did! Emma Stone's performance was amazing! Everything about this movie was phenomenal. I definitely recommend it to anyone.
Nobody (2021)
If you like action movies, this is for you
John Wick meets Home Alone! What an incredible movie. I highly recommend it to any action movie lover. The fight sequences were very well done.
