L'appartement (1996)
Superb script
I loved everything in this film, the colors, the acting, the camera work, the script, the flat (I want a flat like that!!)... Vincent Cassel is, as always, superb and Romane was a surprise to me. The script is very well written. Lots of twists, funny situations, a chain of events in a spiral that hooked me in completely. I loved how destiny didn't let them be together, how they were so close and yet never met. Isn't life sometimes this strange? And his confusion. How to choose? I mean, we all experience that, some times in our lives, it's not easy once we get involved to just leave it behind... The camera work is at times brilliant and the colors are just perfect! I can't believe how this is the only film directed by Gilles Mimouni... Nic
Dogville (2003)
I could even see the dog!
Amazing! Lars just doesn't stop impressing me! Every film is a new adventure, we can't predict what is going to happen. In Dogville, during the first 10 minutes I was thinking, what is this? Everything happening in a stage, pretending to be a little village, but there were no walls, no streets, nothing. But then, as if by magic, I could see the village, the walls, the streets, even the dog! The story is fantastic, very human (very dogma) and the acting absolutely superb! And the ending, couldn't be better. It fooled me big time! I believed the ending would be different, for a moment forgot how Lars Von Trier has always had the courage to end his films as he pleased. That's what distinguishes a Danish film from a Hollywood block buster. No compromises! Nic
Irréversible (2002)
Perfection
Everything is perfect in this film... the way the story is told, the (too long) scenes, the camera, the directing, the camera work, the acting, the timing. The film is not about a rape or about a revenge... It's about... time.. destructing everything. The rape and the violence are merely means to achieve the goal: to make us feel this... that time ruins everything. And the way it is done is simply perfect. Nicholas
The Price of Milk (2000)
The magic of love
This was the best film I've seen this year, truly amazing and beautiful, it portraits the magic of love. What is it with New Zeland that brings us these amazing films? In this film, a young couple lives a beautiful love, magical, until the day she doubts his love and tries everything to test it. Finally there's no more magic.. love's dead. And then we are trapped inside the film, we want to be there and help her, them, restoring their love.. Too beautiful!
