The Life of David Gale (2003)
Pro Capital Punishment message, while pretending to be anti
The whole of this movie is based on the incorrect premise that no innocent person has ever been executed under the modern system of capital punishment. This is completely false.
It tries to pretend that it is an anti-capital punishment film (presumably to get that audience in to watch it). It then proceeds to 'show' that the system is so robust that although it 'technically' could be possible to execute an innocent person, that would in fact only be possible if that person were super smart, and deranged by liberal ideology, and set out to elaborately trick the system by committing a fake murder and confessing to a crime they didn't commit, and fail to use any appeal.
This is of course utter nonsense. There are hundreds of documented and repealed death sentences that turned out to have been given and carried out to people not guilty of the crime they were convicted of. This makes the entire message of the film redundant, except as a cynical ploy to make an argument FOR the death penalty. Shameful and underhand.

9/10 s1. 4/10 s2
First season: great story, script, directing and editing made for engaging, intiguing, fun and exciting escapism.
Second season: forgot how to tell a story, set a scene or create any sense of not watching a group of actors doing their day job as quickly as possible
