Project Power (2020)
It's a good action thriller.
It's nothing groundbreaking in the superpower cinema world, but it's got enough mystery and action to keep a person entertained. This movie is easily a 7 maybe an 8. I gave it a 10 to even out the absurd scores the disgruntled fanboys left. If you like watching movies and aren't the negative complaining type you will enjoy it.
El orfanato (2007)
I found it very underwhelming.
Maybe I set the bar too high since this movie was coming from the guy who wrote Pan's Labyrinth. It wasn't scary at all. I would put it in the mystery category more than horror. I felt like I jut kept waiting for something to happen. It was very predictable.
Gisaengchung (2019)
Good movie. Has a Black Mirror type of feel.
I enjoyed it. Fun little movie. Not sure what all the Hype is about, though, not even close to movie of the year. Worth a watch for sure.
The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance (2019)
Best series I have seen since the Expanse
Its Amazing how much you begin to care for these puppets. This is quality fantasy that doesn't relent. It's epic storytelling at its best.
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018)
This film has sucked me into the Potterverse
I have always been a huge fantasy guy, but always considered myself a more of a middle earther or dark materialist, but this film just blew me away. I felt the first Fantastic movie was around an 8 and started to pull me in, but the Crimes of Grindelwald has put the nail in the coffin. I am hooked. How long do I have to wait for the next one. Time for me to rewatch the Harry Potter films while I wait.
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (2018)
Fun Nostalgia with a creepy twist
Really had a good time watching this. Be aware this is based on the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina the comic book series not the TV series Sabrina the Teenage witch. I can not wait for season two. All our favorite characters are back in this horror occult adaptation of one of our favorite growing franchises. They are all a little darker, and smarter than you may remember from the TV show.
It's very eerie show that at times is a little gory. It's got a Buffy or Charmed feel, but much more brutal and bloody.
It centers around Sabrina who is in those coming of age teenage angst years so be ready for a little bit of teen drama. Sabrina is an intelligent, driven, righteous, stubborn, at times naive in her quest for social justice, and a typical know it all teen. She is making mistakes and learning like any teen or young adult. Sometimes she has to learn the hard way. Overall she is strong character who sticks up for her friends and her beliefs. I really enjoyed the casting choice for Sabrina.
I wanted a little more from Salem. There could be a little more comedic relief to pay homage to the TV show, but for a suspenseful, horror, drama, thriller it's about what I would expect.
What a wonderful unexpected surprise of an Easter egg for me to find. I really enjoy this show.
Mr. Robot (2015)
Amazing start to wait I've seen this before.
Spoiler alert this show is Fight Club. What a strong start and cast to turn to an almost exact copy of a another film. If you would of told me it was a fight club based show and did things a little more different than the original I could have probably enjoyed it more. It could have been so much more. What a let down.
Star Trek: Discovery (2017)
My favorite Trek so far.
It's a change from past treks. Its darker grittier feel than past Treks and has found inspiration in the Expanse and Battlestar Galactica. I understand the disappointment of diehard Trekkies. I know that feeling of being betrayed by your favorite show or artist, but I also understand the need for growth. I appreciate different visions that come with new directors, reboots and so on. If you are a Trekkie who can go into the show with an open mind I think you will have yourself an enjoyable time watching it. If you are looking for fundamental Trek you may be disappointed. I binged the first season in one sitting.
Altered Carbon (2018)
I binge watched it in one night.
It's the only show I've watched recently that semi fills the void while I wait for the next season of the Expanse.
It's on the crime drama side. It's centered around mystery. It has some fun soft sci fi elements. It's got a lot of action, too. It's pretty brutal at times. It has some steamy sexual tension and some hot love making.
I really enjoyed it.
The Expanse (2015)
One of the best shows ever made
All around great!!!! The first season it hangs more on the drama crime side than it does on the sci-fi side, and is a little slow, but picks up pace in the second season and never slows down. It's got that BSG Or B5 political feel, but more on the gritty side like BSG. If you liked BSG you will more than likely enjoy this show as well. The acting is top notch. The special effects are the best I've seen to date. Storytelling and suspense at its finest. I just shelled out $30.00 for season 3, because I couldn't wait for it to be part of my Amazon Prime subscription.
The Triangle (2005)
I felt like I just watched a never ending lifetime movie.
I can't get back those hours. I just kept watching and hoping, but it just never delivered. Acting was subpar. It crept around some cool ideas, but moved too slow in between them. It flirts with cool wormhole concepts, but they are pretty bland compared to something like event horizon, or sphere. You have been warned, do not waste your time.
Phoenix Wilder and the Great Elephant Adventure (2017)
Decent family movie.
It's a fairly good movie. It's not as epic as it could have been, but it's worth a watch. I'd let my four year old watch it. There is violence, but it's mild in my opinion.
Office Christmas Party (2016)
If you like too laugh check this out.
I was blown away by how funny this movie was. Kate McKinnon is absolutely hilarious. Jason Bateman nails his usual responsible but funny role. This movie really had me laughing out loud.
Kin (2018)
Watchable, but not the Sci-fi film I expected
Barely any sci-if in it. It's more of a crime drama with sci-fi elements. They show quite a majority of the Science fiction scenes in the trailer. There are so many absurdly ridiculous things that happen in this movie that tries to present itself as hard sci-fi. Reminds me of a cheesy 80s movie. I gave it a five, but I think I would have gave it somewhere closer to a seven if I knew I was getting a gangster movie when I rented it.
The Domestics (2018)
Good film
Brutal. In your face non-stop action. It not as in depth as closely released post apocalyptic film, Mad Max:Fury Road, and the Domestics is far more gory and surface level action. It's no fairy tale. It was fun. Kept me entertained the whole way through.
Rapture-Palooza (2013)
A good little chuckle
It's a goofy. It's raunchy. I thought it was fun. Good for a some chuckles.
