Naomi: I Am Not a Used Car Salesman (2022)
Misstep
This episode is the first misstep for an otherwise fantastic series. I had zero expectations going into this series as I knew nothing about the character, so I've really been enjoying the character development and story so far, but this episode was just terribly written. And it looks like we're just going to get another storyline after all where the villain gains the trust of the hero only to betray them in the last few episodes? Isn't that every season of The Flash already? Hope this isn't foreshadowing the rest of the series taking a turn for the worst.
Supergirl: The Gauntlet (2021)
Has the stunt work always been this godawful?
The cafeteria fight scene has to be one of the laziest, worst choreographed fight scenes ever filmed. SO many blatantly bad punches filmed (like at least try to hide the fact that there's a good 6"-12" of space between a fist and a face). And Guardian (a normal human who has been doing this for what a week at best) can now block lightning with her shield? Was this just slow lightning for a change? Can't wait for this show to be over (this is the first season I've been let down and it's been a rough one).
Batwoman: Kane, Kate (2021)
This show turned around
First few episodes of this season were rocky. That was to be expected with both the fallout of Ruby Rose leaving and a pandemic to work around. Now that things have shaken down a bit I feel like everything is starting to move in a real positive direction (will kind of be a shame if next season is really its last as the rumor has it). The "villain of the week" storyline never really worked in Batwoman's favor (even in season 1). Having more of an arching storyline though has allowed characters to come into their own.
The Flash: Masquerade (2021)
Reuse/Recycle
So Cecile is "trapped" and has been replaced by someone else for 2 weeks but no one knows it...this sounds familiar...like something we saw last season...
then there's Cecile's psychic prison and a fight with her crazy doppelganger...so similar to the Painkiller story from Black Lightning...I think the hallway was even the same just painted white instead of darker colors.
Then bad cop comes to town and hates metas presumably because something bad happened to her team on a mission...again a tweak on the police chief and her motivations in the last season of Black Lightning.
Oh and how Caitlin KNEW the lightning was how the villain took over Cecile's mind, even though there was nothing up to that point that could have indicated anything of that (and explaining that "if we don't do something Barry could be stuck in a coma FOREVER!!!")
edit: AND I almost forgot the other mega bit of dumb writing. When Barry tells Cecile "I've seen portals like this before. That's our way out."...what kind of logic is that?
I hope every actor on this show finds better jobs because they all deserve it, but the writing on this show has become incredibly lazy.
The Flash: Family Matters, Part 2 (2021)
Dear God make it stop
Next season HAS to be the last unless you find new writers. I can't imagine the remaining actors wanting to stick around too much longer as the series continues to fade into a shadow of its' former glory.
The Flash: Timeless (2021)
Lost its' charm
The Flash has definitely derailed in the last 2 years. I really hope it wraps it up with Season 8. Team Flash is not interesting anymore. How many times does Harrison Wells have to leave and Cisco get all emotional about it...again? How many times is Barry going to be betrayed by those he trusted? How many times are Barry and Iris going to have a falling out only to realize LOVE is the answer by the end and everything will be okay? Feels like the writers behind the Arrowverse shows have all given up and are phoning it now. I fear for Stargirl.
The Flash: Mother (2021)
ugh...so much ugh.
So this Mirror Monarch storyline really crashed and burned with this 3 episode wrap up to last season. Been a big fan of the show since day one, but this episode really made me wonder if we just watched The Flash jump the shark. I don't think I can think of one redeeming thing about it and I'm really trying. Even the shots of Barry running getting his recharge with his bangs flopping back and forth made me cringe. I try not to be a hater, but wow with this one.
Punky Brewster (2021)
Way better than expected
I was concerned that this reboot was going to be too kid-centric for adult fans of the original series to really enjoy, but I'm pleasantly surprised by the balance of nostalgia, kid humor, adult humor and relevant social topics (without feeling preachy). The cast is perfect. I wouldn't change a thing and hope that it's picked up for a 2nd season with more episodes.
Helstrom (2020)
Deserves a 2nd season
Had this come out on Netflix with the rest of the Marvel shows, the fans would have ate this up. As is though, it's going to get lost because Marvel won't do anything for it. Which is a shame. I thought the casting was perfect. The story was solid. The changes from the comic didn't bother me. Hellstrom was a member of The Defenders in the comics. It'd be cool if Marvel gave the Netflix shows another shot and somehow brought Helstrom into it (also that would tie in the Patsy Walker/Hellcat angle).
