The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)
Peter Jackson did it right!
His entire trilogy is THE reining monument of how these 'epics of literature' should be adapted for the 'big screen'...
This is how Stephen King's, "The Gunslinger" series, should have been made! ~ And (hopefully), Frank Herbert's, "Dune" series, will follow Jackson's supreme example. ~ "If you build it" (the right way) they will come...
I saw each of them (every year, in turn) when they first hit the big screen at the "Vue Cinema" in North Finchley, London...
I have the LOTR Trilogy (Extended Edition) Blu-ray, in my 'precious' film collection. I have no problem watching them again, and again...
Lolly-Madonna XXX (1973)
Another GREAT hidden gem that has FINALLY been released on DVD...
One of my all time faves! I first saw this on the late night telly when I was a kid. It's one of those films, seen in childhood, that you never forget.
It was never released on VHS...
For years, I tried to find the bootleg VHS TvRip, that was rumored to be on the web...
Then finally, (in 2014?) the DVD was released by the Warner Archive Collection... YAY!
Man was I chuffed! ~ ! now had 'my precious'! ~ The quality was great.
I was so happy...
The War Zone (1999)
Brutally brilliant...
This is an extremely intense film...let's call it a 'black' hidden gem. Probably not for most people's taste, certainly not mainstream...but, it's a great piece of work.
A directorial debut for Tim Roth, with stellar cast Tilda Swinton and Ray Winstone.
IMDb Originals: A Salute to Women Directors (2020)
I would have given it a 10 but...
They didn't include French director Catherine Breillat...
