Leave the World Behind (2023)
What of a waste of a story and a cast
The movie starts nicely. The suspense increases with each act. The acting is superb it seems that the story would be a nice thriller with excellent scenery and a crescendo in the expectations from the viewer.
The conflict between the characters, how they evolve from being dysfunctional strangers to bonding partners in the ordeal of the end of the world seemed to be making sense.
The outcast character (Kevin Bacon) has a good presence although his character could have been more developed.
However, the movie ends with a dud. Nothing happens at the end and lets the audience guessing.
What a waste of talent. In the last act, it seems that the director was sleepwalking.
Fall (2022)
FULL OF PLOT HOLES AND INCONSISTENCIES...BUT ENTERTAINING
If you want to look for all the plot holes and hold on to your disbelief, this is movie is OK. Nothing fancy!! It was done with a minimum budget but it was financially successful.
The premise is quite inconceivable. The plot twists somewhat make sense. Now, if you are looking for a popcorn flick to kill time, go ahead and watch this one.
The one thing that stands out is the scenery. The shots from high altitude seem real and convincing. But, the dangling on a thin rope, the usage of a drone and cellphones are some of the plot holes and inconsistencies.
The thrill and the tension are there...but nothing else.
The Last of Us: Left Behind (2023)
BORING TEEN DRAMA
Just a boring 1 hour teen drama that didn't add a thing to the narrative. What happened here? Did the writers take a two week vacation? Who directed this one? This was a major step down for the whole series.
Zombies and death everywhere and what do we get? A one hour filler episode. This one really dragged the story line. All the teen-story pseudo-romance tale could have lasted 10 mins tops and the story move along quickly.
Why do I have a feeling that we are going to have a WALKING DEAD slow-as-molasses narrative from now on? The producers seem to be dragging this one too long.
Move along people. If you don't watch this one...you won't lose anything.
Moonfall (2022)
This pseudo-sci flick has the be the worst of the decade
Yes, what a waste of time, acting talent. How can a director calls himself one and the story writers have the nerve to come up with such a piece of trash...not even worthy of a matinee in a rural town hidden in the middle of no where.
This director typically bases his "work" (to use the term loosely) on explosions, nonsensical family twists, never ending plot holes, stupidity and other nonsense, but this movie tops them all. No wonder it was a major flop and a money bust for anyone that invested in it.
We have two great actors (Donald Sutherland and Halley Berry) that are totally wasted on this script.
The story was a no-go from the beginning.
Don't waste your time!!
The Last of Us: Long, Long Time (2023)
A filler episode...nothing extraordinary
So far, the show has not give us anything new that we have not seen in any other zombie apocalypse series. Today we see a filler episode with tear-jerking scenes that contribute to explain some of the details of the story but contributes very little to move it along. At the end of the episode, the main characters finally get their act together, find a vehicle and get moving to someplace in the west.
The love story/affair of the two main protagonists in the episode are simply there to fill a stereotype but do not explain a lot of the interactions between the infected and the survivors. The story of these 2 could have been explained in 10 minutes tops and the story moved along more quickly. I am a little disappointed of the "molasses speed" that this series it evolving into.
Blonde (2022)
A terrible boring attempt of a movie
I had higher expectations on this one. The movie properly casted but poorly directed. The script was terrible. The main actress was underutilized and seemed to be lost during most of the film.
The director failed to portray a realistic believable portrait of Marylin Monroe and stated at the poorly stereotyped version of her as a mindless lost blonde bimbo that was theoretically manipulated by everyone. The sex scenes, mainly the ones with JFK were done with very poor taste and the rape that was suggested was totally out of place. I can out of this 3 hour biopic more empty than I went in.
Don't lose your time...SKIP THIS ONE.
House of the Dragon: The Heirs of the Dragon (2022)
Calm down folks...this is only the pilot
It was nothing extraordinary. The characters are still being developed. GoT was known for its twists and surreal plots. This one is just starting. I read a lot of other reviews and people are going overboard.
We are just watching the 1st hour of a 10 hour movie.
One bright thing is that. Benioff and Weiss, the two individuals that screwed up GoT are not even remotely related to this prequel. This is promising.
Joan of Arc (1948)
An overrated collection of overblown religious biopic
The mediocre quality of this flick can not be overstated.
In its time, it was a great hit with the critics but it has not aged well. The religious overtones are disgusting. Do not waste your time on this so called "classic". Boring, tedious and the pacing is way off.
Better Call Saul: Saul Gone (2022)
I rarely give a 10 to a show or a movie but....
...this one deserves it. The BCS series finale is everything you would expect from a master story telling team of Gould and Gillian. No loose string was left hanging. Every subplot was closed. The acting was superb. The pace of the episode and it's twists, easter-eggs, references to past episodes were carefully choreographed and placed.
This type of closing and attention to detail is rare in today's TV. Who can forget the GOT fiasco. Is BCS better than BB? In some episodes and instances it is. But both are exquisite story telling.
Better Call Saul: Waterworks (2022)
BCS at it's absolute best. One of top episodes in the series
This one was directed with style and finesse. Vince Gilligan and his team really excelled. Most of the loose ends of the series that had remained at this point were closed.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Part VI (2022)
Much better than the other 5 episodes...you could skip all of them.
Yes, this episode summarizes the whole series. You could have simply avoided the other 5 miserable episodes and just watch this one.
By far, this series was a series of misfires of bad writing, under developed characters, pitiful skilled directors and a story that you already know how it was going to end.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Part V (2022)
More of the same stale story
This whole series is tailored to try to stir up the nostalgia from the Star Wars crowd. The story is nonsense. The acting is subpar and the directing is terrible.
The whole premise creates more plot holes in the Star Wars saga than fill up any.
This 5th episode ends up with a cliffhanger that does not have any sense at all. Don't waste your time.
Jurassic World Dominion (2022)
Mediocre sequel
Simple truth, the writers have run out of ideas. They have milked the franchise....twice....and this is the result.
On top of that the directing is very substandard. Who ever edited this film seems to be an amateur.
I wonder how Spielberg allowed his name to be attached to this film.
Don't waste your time...wait for it to come out on cable or streaming service.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Part IV (2022)
Meeehhh....the series, 1/2 through doesn't improve
Now we have a filler episode. It seems that the writers were asleep at the wheel for this one. The underutilized character of Kenobi is obvious.
Come on folks, it is only 6 total episodes and they have wasted another one on nothing. A "rescue mission" that we have seen a thousand times.
This series is just not worth the hype.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Part III (2022)
Continues to be poor, slow and boring with bad writing and acting.
What happened? Was this written by a high-schooler? The characters seem to be sleepwalking. The story is unattractive, stale and with no substance at all.
The whole series seems to have been set up to have the Vader and Kenobi to find each other. No major backstory, no character development.
I thought that this was going to pick up the pace...I was very disappointed.
Bullet Head (2017)
Boring to say the least
Do not waste your time. A great cast caught in a stale story with no bright moments. I almost fell asleep in the 1st half of hour. I guess that the cast wanted a quick buck.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Part II (2022)
And the mediocrity continues
I would have expected that the story (being only a total of 6 chapters) would pick up the speed. We are only given more of the same. McGregor sulking and looking lost in a plot that is poorly written. The supporting characters are one dimensional and don't show anything of relevance.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Part I (2022)
Mediocre. Nothing new here folks
Ewan McGregor can not save this new chapter in the Star Wars saga. This opening episode was stale, slow and with no interest. I literally fell asleep half way through it.
Most of the characters were sleep walking through it.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: Strange New Worlds (2022)
Back to Star Trek basics...GOOD!!
Yes...right where it should be. Back to the single episode story telling.
The characters are compelling and the actors earned their pay.
Lets see how it goes. I was well pleased.
The Eyes of Tammy Faye (2021)
A terrible pseudo-religious biopic with no real story
What a waste of talent!! Jessica Chastain was totally under used in this movie. The religious overtones are sickening and cheesy. The story really is non existent. Don't waste your time.
The Book of Boba Fett: Chapter 1: Stranger in a Strange Land (2021)
More nostalgia for aging original trilogy Star War nerds
Nothing new here. It was just an opening episode that briefly touches on the escape from the Sarlacc but nothing more.
I surely hope that the story picks up and brings up something new.
Lucifer: Partners 'Til the End (2021)
Yep...they nailed the ending
Excellent way to close the series. No loose strings left anywhere.
Other show runners could learn how to end a series.
The Walking Dead: Acheron: Part I (2021)
More of the same....
Nothing changes. The story barely moves along. Unnecessary dialogue, endless camera panning, boring story telling...time and time again.
This show really worn out it's welcome 5 or 6 years ago.
Pathetic.
Loki: For All Time. Always. (2021)
Don't waste your time, this has to be the lamest Season Finale of all time
As interesting as watching paint dry!! This series started with such promise and ended with a loud THUD!!
So disappointed! This finale seemed to have been written by a 5th grader.
Do not waste your time!!!
Army of the Dead (2021)
Gory nonsense
That is the best definition of this pseudo-film.
No plot, full of plot holes, nonsense from the 1st frame. Don't lose your time.
