The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar (2023)
classic wes anderson is back everyone
A great short film in its own style from the master director Wes Anderson, after the not-so-liked Asteroid City. This production offers us a great visual feast, a fluent story unlike Asteroid City, and an absorbing story with beautiful characterizations. I'm not very familiar with the academy rules, but I hope it at least wins an award in the short film category. If you like Wes Anderson's productions and/or like pastel, colorful backgrounds (like me), you should definitely watch it. At the same time, the movie was inspired by a mystical person named Kuda Bux. I also liked that one actor played different characters.
Hotaru no haka (1988)
if you need a good cry
When you first noticed the movie you thought "how dramatic can it be?" '' you say. Because I thought it was a war treatment in the style of Miyazaki's Princess Mononoke, but when I watched the movie, it was a production that made even me, who normally has a hard time crying while watching movies, cry so hard. The situation was not much different on my second viewing. It is definitely one of the best movies in history, both with what it tells and what it makes you experience. Watch it and make it watch, you won't regret it.
Moreover, the movie is based on a true story. However, Setsuko was 1.5 years old, not 4 years old like in this movie.
Memento (2000)
nolan's reverse magic
The story of a patient with short-term memory who feels remorse for a mistake he made, even if accidentally, and is ready to do anything to relieve it (such as being motivated to kill other innocents).
It is the first feature film of Christopher Nolan, one of my favorite directors, with a considerable budget (he shot his first film, Following, with a budget of only $6000). Memento is a film that has made Nolan's signature obsession with time (which reached its peak in Tenet), which he showed us slowly in Following. This film is also important in that it introduces multiple and non-linear timelines to the world of cinema. The biggest share in the script of the film is his brother Jonathan Nolan (he worked as a screenwriter in Christopher Nolan's top films, and although Christopher Nolan achieved great works without him, the level he reached with Jonathan was very different). Because this movie is a quote from a short story called Memento Mori written by Jonathan Nolan. It should definitely be watched and made to be watched.
Oppenheimer (2023)
a short story of the destroyer of worlds
I think it's spectacular for a biopic film. Maybe, you can say '' i think it's boring cuz this film is 3 hours. ''. But we shouldn't forget about this isn't a movie just contains action. This is a film of the destroyer of worlds, someone you can't easily get into his mind. Moreover, the film has also managed to reflect the events in an objective manner. Maybe, Nolan should use florence pugh much important role than this and court scenes should be shorter than this but i can say, you should watch oppenheimer. In the film, we are seeing the classic nolan technique that named by me '' playing with time like a wizard :-) '' by the way.
