Idiocracy (2006)
Goofy and On Target.
This is a funny, and totally enjoyable social satire that doesn't take itself too seriously. It takes aim at our myopic, self indulgent culture and hits the mark. Luke Wilson gave his typical likable , laid back performance. Dax Shepard as Wilsons mentally challenged lawyer and sidekick was brilliant. The weak link in the cast was Maya Rudolph, she just didn't fit, and her character wasn't developed. Sorry, but this lady has the charisma and appeal of a wet sock. The oddest thing about this movie is the almost complete lack of promotion and marketing by the film industry, and stranger still was the complete lack of interest or comment by the media. This was a big picture with a major star, and it was totally and completely panned and ignored by the popular media. My guess is that it was too politically incorrect and made too many people uncomfortable. Its indictment of corporate America, and our materialistic, narcissistic society was hilarious without getting too dark or preachy.

From all the hype I was expecting an hilarious comedic masterpiece. Turned out to be Latka from Taxi does Jackass. Like all bad "comedy" or satire it drops to the lowest level, i.e crude sexual innuendo, bathroom humor, foul language, cheap laughs at the expense of others. There's some laughs in this, but they are strained and infrequent. This could have been a much better movie, but save for the few humorous moments, it relies on making fools of unsuspecting people for most of its laughs. This is its main flaw, and I found it uncomfortable to watch.Save your money. There's also nothing really original here. This is a DVD movie, and only when there's nothing else to rent....
