Los viajes del viento (2009)
well done but boring
I think this movie technically speaking is one of the best made in Colombia. It's filmed in super 35 with aspect ratio 2.35:1 which is a novelty in Colombian cinema. I agree the film show's different and interesting aspects of Colombia, but the problem to me is that nothing more happens and what makes an overall boring story with a lack of elements that could of made more entertaining the film (is cinema goal, isn't?). A must see for everyone, it's photography is beautiful (well done Paulo Perez!) and the music is spectacular. It shows many aspects of Colombia that are unknown even to Colombians. Also it's the second film of the young director Ciro Guerra, who is in the path of becoming a great filmmaker.
Soñar no cuesta nada (2006)
my god why this movie was sent to represent Colombia on the Oscars!
When I heard the film was to be released and the theme of what it was about, I felt very curious. But when I saw it was the biggest deception of my life. Technically speaking, the sound is poor, you can tell about man dialogs that were remade on studio that are poorly achieved in the final mix. Secondo of all, the photography is mediocre, some part of the films show some soldiers with night vision goggles, and the way the cinematographer achieves that "dark night" is by illuminated everything like if they were in an actual military base with lights, there's no reference used of the moonlight, my god! Thir but not least, most of the ac tings are really poor, it's totally not believable the roll of the wife of one of the soldier, her performance it's pretty poor.
Great disappointing, shame of the jury who chose to send this movie to represent Colombia on the Oscars.
Satanás (2007)
Good Achievement for Colombian cinema
I saw the movie yesterday, and I was amused. Not only for the theme the movie talks about, but because in many technical aspects, is a very well done movie. Although it fails in some photographic issues ( blurs en wide shots, close ups, etc), it is pretty descent. The sound design is very well achieved. In a thematic point of view, I agree with the user that commented before me, it's a universal theme, it could happen in any place of the world. It is not only meant to be referred as a Colombian reality issue. Loneliness, evil, lust, revenge, hatred, are human emotions or feelings, that doesn't have boundaries, humans feel them. In a way, some Colombian audience may find this movie "anti-colombiana", because most of the Colombian people are used to watch shallow Colombian movies, and when reality in a way hits them, they cannot stand it and that's why movies like this one, are criticized. When a movie evokes emotions, passions and most of all, reflection, is a movie that is to be seen. Personally this movie evoked all of these in me. It's a movie to be watched.
Dios los junta y ellos se separan (2006)
oh my god this can't bee happening
Once more you can see the mediocrity in Colombia's cinema with this film. A very confusing plot, and themes that are not profoundly touched. The old jokes are made with the typical bad word and coursing by parts of the actors. A must see movie for Colombian filmmakers to know what things not to do in their future projects. With this "new wave" of Colombian filmaking, the filmmakers are been stuck in shallow themes for movies, in a dumb quest for "originality" in narrating stories. This director seems to be amused with Colombian celebrities (the movie is full of them) but not for the construction of the characters. Many of them are shallow and, me personally as a viewer, I didn't believe this characters were true.
Al final del espectro (2006)
I can't believe the ministry of culture from Colombia supported this film
I'm a student of film-making in Colombia. This movie really makes me sad in the way that there are so many projects of films that are more interesting, but they are not supported, because the infamous people of Colombia and many of their filmmakers believe that telling stories of Colombia's problems is something boring and "typical". It only pronounces more the sense of indifference that is overwhelming this hurt nation. Now, talking about the movie, it stinks. The story is too entangled, showing us the problems in its screenplay. The acting of Julieth (Tulipan), is pathetic, too cliché. This character is the same thing as the typical misunderstood teen (oh what a surprise, a wannabe Gothic girl) The movie itself is big cliché of American horror movies, in which the horror is done through the typical terrifying noise, but not from the image itself. In the technical aspect I think that the movie is good, although there are many out of focus, that you can tell that are not intentional. The audio of the movie is well done, and the lightning is pretty descent. I also admire that the movie has got a big response in the public, so be free to watch it and drop your own conclusions.
