Excellent horror series
9 September 2016
I had to write a review just to praise this series and show appreciation for the effort of the creators. I thoroughly enjoyed it start to finish, it's very dark, gory & at times disturbing. I'm surprised that it isn't more well known, especially considering how awful American Horror Story have become. Slasher blows it right out of the water. I love the darkness and the complexity of the stories and characters, nothing is what it seems and nobody is innocent

Really hope that there is a second season! Horror has gone to absolute crap lately and this series is so superior to more well known shows like Scream & American Horror Story.

Beware of FAKE reviews!!!
2 September 2016
So I will begin by stating that I was fooled by the high rating for this movie, so decided to watch it with my fiancé at the weekend. At first, I thought it was some sort of joke, I love horror comedies and zombie movies but this has to be the unfunniest thing I have ever seen in my life. Tommy Wiseau's "The Room" is like a masterpiece compared to this! It is not funny in the slightest, the acting is horrendous and it is just unwatchable. I switched off after 30 minutes, I just couldn't waste any more of my time, and I've watched some terrible movies in my time that I was at least able to sit through.

In short, this movie is UNBELIEVABLY TERRIBLE in every conceivable way.

Terrible movie (from an ex-boxer)
4 August 2015
To start with, if you've seen the trailer, you've seen the movie. It was unbelievably contrived and predictable. Jake Gyllenhaal did an okay job but was totally unbelievable as a boxer. Really, 43 fights and no cauliflower ears? There were far too many stupid moment in the movie, such as his wife getting shot. Nobody could find the killer, like there isn't CCTV cameras in luxury hotels or anything. Ridiculous premise!

Also, his character was completely unsympathetic. I have suffered more than my fair share of grief and anyone who neglects their own child like that because they are selfish and caught up in their own grief is a piece of crap. All he cared about were his own feeling and what was happening with him, when you have a child that you are responsible for, you cannot behave like this. It should be the first thing you leave behind when you have a child. Disgusting parenting. Not to mention the fast that he shouldn't have got caught up in that petty fight that led to his wife getting killed in the first place. She pleaded with him to walk on, but again he only thought about himself.

And now on to the actual boxing. Dear God, it was boring and awkward to watch. As an ex Muay Thai boxer, the fight scenes were ridiculous. Usually, in boxing movies, I get totally excited and caught up in the fights due to my background, but this was just boring and so obviously fake to me. They were basically slapping each other, there was no impact or power when they hit one another, it was laughable! I know it's acting but I've seen great boxing movies where the fights were realistic. I cannot believe all of the positive review surrounding this movie, which prompted me to go in the first place, so disappointed!

Please don't waste your time or money on this!!!!

Warning: Spoilers
I usually never write movie reviews but after watching this pathetic excuse for a horror movie, I felt obliged to warn people. I mistakenly went to see this movie even after reading all the bad reviews on here, as I thought it couldn't possibly be all that bad and would at the very least be a somewhat scary horror film. Boy was I wrong! There is absolutely NOTHING scary at all about this movie. It relies completely on out of context jump scares to get any kind of reaction from its audience, which is nothing short of pathetic. The storyline is ridiculous and nonsensical, the characters are stupid, as are their actions, there is absolutely no creepy atmosphere or build up and at the end, you don't give a crap what happens to anyone in the movie. Even the hour and a half run- time is painful to sit through, you just can't wait for it to end it is so uneventful and boring. The worst part is that the jump scares come completely out of nowhere at times, there isn't even a buildup so you don't even get scared. It's just a mild shock and then nothing again. The woman in black herself isn't even scary in this one. They really shouldn't have bothered and I feel totally ripped off going to see this. There was no effort put into this movie whatsoever, which is a shame as the first movie was decent and a very effective horror. There is so much one (with talent) could do with the premise, the woman in black character is scary and a child dying every time someone sees her is a very creepy idea. An idea which they forgot about until halfway through this movie. Please, please stay away from this cliché ridden mess!!! This movie solely relies on constant jump scares and creepy child ghosts (which didn't at all feature in the first movie) in order to be scary and fails miserably on every level. As a horror fan, it's a very sad time when horror (sequels) are now being made without the horror with no effort whatsoever just to cash in the original.

Nothing like the trailer portrays...
4 June 2012
Warning: Spoilers
The trailer portrays this movie to be a light hearted comedy about pregnancy, which is what made me go see this movie. This movie is not funny, all the funny parts are in the trailer so I feel completely fooled into seeing the movie. It isn't a drama either as I find the serious bits very depressing and they don't quite fit with the movie. Characters are extremely annoying and there is nothing in this movie that would ever make you feel good about being pregnant. I actually think pregnancy is portrayed very badly in this movie as the characters who are so desperately trying to get pregnant are really one dimensional, but I have issues with people wanting to have kids just because they "want" them anyway. The whole ordeal is a bit cartoonish here also. I'm so glad that I didn't drag my boyfriend to see this one as I don't think he'd ever forgive me.

Depp really needs to stop doing his friend's movies!
22 May 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Seriously, what was the point in making this? And furthermore, what was Johnny Depp thinking? This coupled with his cameo in Jack and Jill makes me think he's losing his mind. It's just a waste of his talent. Even the special effects in this movie were fake and hokey, the storyline was awful, and the very few laughs did not make up for the rest of the movie, which was just a total snooze-fest that I wished would just end. The only highlight was Alice Cooper's performance at the end and Johnny Depp referring to him as a female.

Tim Burton really needs to stop making dark Gothic movies starring Depp just for the sake of making them. It's not working anymore. This was extremely unimaginative and uninteresting and would only appeal to teenage Twilight fans, in particular the nonsensical werewolf scenario at the end which was extremely pointless. I rarely write movie reviews but just had to with this as I don't understand the intention of the film at all. Save yourself the money, it is as bad and boring as everyone is saying (unless you are 13 maybe) and go see The Dictator or even Piranha 3DD instead, which was far more entertaining!

A passionate attempt at a film which could have potentially been outstanding...
3 December 2007
There are so many negative reviews surrounding this film but overall, I myself actually enjoyed it. That being said, however, this film is clearly not without its flaws and the storyline & general pace lacks consistency. Other major problems I had with this film include the most obvious; appalling Irish accents displayed by Michael Madsen & Richard Chamberlain, Madsen's melodramatic overly brooding portrayal of his character who I feel is undeserving of any best actor award based on this performance, Chamberlain's unbelievable performance as an Irish boxing trainer (way too much enthusiasm displayed here). Other flaws included incorrect & mixed itinerant accents displayed by most of the travelers (Rawley could have done without mentioning the cliché term "boss" in every other sentence), a very inaccurate and clichéd outlook on travelers in general (which I felt the writer/director could have researched a bit more) & a lack of build up or explanation to any major event in this film (it all felt a bit too much thrown into my lap).

However, all this being said I do consider this a very passionate and vast attempt by a first time writer/director and do respect that he managed to get Madsen, Chamberlain, Bergin & Jones on board for this. Vinnie Jones also delivers a much needed energetic villainous performance displaying a more than adequate accent, although maybe a bit too reminiscent of Brad Pitt's Mickey character in Guy Ritichie's "Snatch". Rawley was also great and more believable in his role than a lot others, a definite newcomer to watch out for. Maybe I'm a bit too critical of this film because I'm a Corkonian, have a boxing background or am of traveler origin myself so it may be a lot easier to nit pick instead of judging this film from an entertainment value alone perspective. But I'm sure they'll really enjoy this one in the States!

A cross between "Identity" & "Soul Survivors"
27 November 2006
I liked this movie, definitely an above average attempt and definitely something different which is quite refreshing for a change. The atmosphere and mood was creepy, lots of gore, inventive killing methods, an unusual stalker killer with a stench, likable characters, mysterious circumstances which keep you guessing right up until the ending, which although satisfying was all a little too predictable for myself and as stated above if I had to describe this movie it is definitely a mixture of "Identity" (creepy motel in the middle of nowhere with stranded thrown together characters) and of course the surrealism of "Soul Survivors" (caught between life and death scenario) with of course the originality of the mysterious Reeker who pops up from just about anywhere and everywhere adding to the shock value of this piece.
