The Castaways (2023)
AWFUL
This is probably the worst tv I have ever watched in my lifetime. Not only is the plot full of holes, it would do justice to a colander, but the acting is atrocious, especially Sheridan Smith. All you see is her relentless pout and white veneers, she is embarrassing. Why Paramount picked this up is beyond me. This could have been done in 30 minutes and i cannot fathom how they managed to stretch it out to 5 episodes. It reminded me of a teen movie from the fifties with Sheridan playing the 16 year old in a 40 year old body, unbelievable. Even the police were made out to be amateur part timers, this I'm sorry to say is instantly forgettable.
Blue Lights (2023)
Entertainment At It's Best
For those of you mourning the end of Line Of Duty, and i am one of them, then switch on to this fantastic, entertaining and quality cop drama. You soon latch on to the characters in this superb cop drama, and this production contains thrills, comedy and edge of your seat excitement. Of course in any series there is usually stand out stars and Blue Lights is no exception. There are too many to mention, but one person that stands out in the crowd is Inspector David 'Jonty' Johnston played wonderfully by Jonathan Harden. He is a joy to behold and i cannot wait to see what he does next in his career. Give Blue Lights a chance you will not be disappointed and my wife and i are praying for a second series.
The Last of Us (2023)
Mediocre at best
This is nothing special and is mediocre at best. Pedro Pascal is his usual quality self and Bella Ramsey is fantastic. However there is 9 hours of peoples relationships with about 5 minutes of infected. This has all been done before in shows like Walking Dead. To me there was at least 2 episodes which were virtually unwatchable. One was an hour dedicated to a gay couple and one where Bella's character showed her and a friends relationship together, not the sort of thing I tuned in for. The series looked cheap with a minimal budget and there was no tension. I'm sorry but I won't be waiting for season 2 in a hurry.
The House Across the Street (2022)
Creepy, Unsettling But Entertaining
I think I have watched a different mini-series to the rest of these reviewers. This was great and my wife and I couldn't stop watching until the very end. Ok the main protagonist was creepy and just a little bit weird, but she made for a very entertaining piece of drama. Also, if you have a brain all will become clear in watching, and I urge you to give it a go and you will be rewarded. Really good performances throughout we highly recommend this series. Just one more thing, is that, when people suggest in movies or TV that certain events couldn't or wouldn't happen, then most of what we watch would be over in half an hour, and what would be the good in that especially in fiction. Go on take a chance you won't be disappointed.
Bosch: Legacy (2022)
CLASS
Fantastic but i need series 2, NOWWWWWWWWWWWWW. With so many mundane shows out there, once in a while the cream rises to the top and that is the case with BOSCH : LEGACY. No spoilers here just watc and be amazed.
Troppo (2022)
Aussie Entertainer
This series was great, i so enjoyed it and Thomas Jane was a revelation. To be honest i thought he was going to phone his lines in like Bruce Willis etc, yet he was brilliant and so was the young lady who played his side kick. Nicole Chamoun i believe is her name and she was quirky, different and had a certain Je ne sais quoi. I would love a second series although in this small town it would be difficult, but i suppose they could branch out. Any way watch this series you WILL NOT be disappointed. Like the World Cup i am now on a downer because it has ended, please give us more cheers.
1883 (2021)
Sam Elliot steals the show.
Well for all the doubters of a high score here's another one. I loved it, back to the good old cowboy days where a man is a man and women were Women. Sam Elliott wow, you can keep Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt and that James Bond Geezer he is a real man and my wife was drooling in every episode even in his 70's. For me what a beautiful young lady was Isabel May and boy can she act. Also special mention for the sultry Gratiela Brancusi and the acting chops of LaMonica Garrett and to be fair wasn't Tim Mcgraw and Faith Hill great. I haven't enjoyed a western series in years but this makes up for it.
The Cockfields (2019)
Absolutely Joyous
Let's face it we live in a time where humour is dead and everything upsets someone. Well not in this case, this series is the warmest, funniest least upsetting of any comedy series of the last 10 years or so. The acting and the writing is impeccable. The first series was magical and the second series is on a par and I just want more. What a coup for UK Gold. I don't want to single anybody out because they are all great, but, I have to make a special mention for Joe Wilkinson, what a talented guy. If you want to feel good about life then watch this fantastic series.
The Tower (2021)
So Entertaining
After the promise of some other series by the makers or producers of certain hits that don't come off, here we finally have a series that does. Gemma Whelan is great, as is her sidekick Jimmy Akinbola. I'm not going to spoil it by going on and on, but give it ago, it will not disappoint. One more thing, this would make a great future series with Gemma, Jimmy and Tahira Shariff. I think they would have a hit on their hands if some good storylines could be found,
The Guilty (2021)
Why?
Well I'm afraid if you watched the original, then, this is one 90 minute bore fest. OK Jake is a brilliant actor, but what's the point when this is a complete copy cat and of course, if you have seen the original, then there can be no suspense whatsoever. By the way, to add insult to injury there is even the woke scene where he goes to the " Gender Neutral" bathroom. Give it a miss and to be the proverbial parrot Watch the original, subs and all.
Bosch (2014)
FANNNNNNNTASTICCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC
Absolutely fantastic. Season 6 the best yet, but what worries me is that this superb series may fly under the radar. The stories and especially the cast and their acting are off the scale and I await with baited breath the next series. Do not let this pass you by. Classy, exiting and intelligent stories make this series a must.
Escape from Pretoria (2020)
Very Enjoyable Prison Movie.
Well as the title of my review says, this was a very enjoyable prison movie. I'm not a Daniel Radcliffe fan, I cannot stand " Harry Potter ", however I really enjoyed his performance in this movie. Very tense at times, the 100 minutes or so run time of this movie passed quickly and my wife and I were very entertained. Reviews of this movie complaining of being an Australian movie are unjustified. This is very much a South African story that just happened to be filmed in Australia. It's a PRISON movie, it could have been filmed on the moon, who cares where it was filmed?. Daniel Webber was also a great co star and I think he is improving in each performance he gives. Heartily recommended.
COBRA (2020)
Rise Of Mediocrity.
This show is awful with no logic and no suspense, and I have just binge watched all 6 episodes. Sorry I can't be more positive but it really is that bad, and don't worry this review contains no spoilers, because I wouldn't be able to think of one any way.
Bodyguard (2018)
Average
I think I like quality drama, and drama that grips me such as Homeland etc. This kept me watching but I felt it was slightly contrived and I actually didn't like episode 1 and 2. I watched to the end but it would not get a second watch from me and I think it will be quite forgetful. Obviously the last episode was way drawn out and was so over the top it was unbelievable. Entertaining but no more and to be put in the same bracket as Line Of Duty I actually find quite laughable, not in the same Parish, I'm afraid. However one man's meat is another man's poison.
The Last Post (2017)
Great Entertainment
Short, sweet and to the point, this series was GREAT. My wife and I loved it. It had something for both sexes and was thoroughly entertaining. The actress who played Alison Laithwaite is called Jessica Raine and she was absolutely fantastic in her role, as was all the other actors really. To sum up I would beg the producers for a new series, this one was spot on.
The Brave (2017)
Enjoyable Hokum And Entertaining With A Capital E.
Oh I so enjoy The Brave. I watch so many series where after an episode or 2, I just cannot stomach any more, but in The Brave every character is likeable and believable. Look we know you have to put your brain asleep occasionally and some of the situations are implausible, but boy is it entertaining. I have just binge watched all 13 episodes and it's got to be good for me to do that. I even had a tear or 2 in some of the episodes and so it has everything. I have said this in a couple of reviews I have done before, but I think I like class TV, like Homeland, Ray Donovan etc., and I urge people to watch this show and I plead with the network to make another series cheers Mick.
The Four: Battle for Stardom (2018)
Every singer a star.
My wife and I cannot wait for this show every week. I am 62 years of age and have introduced the show to my 23 year old daughter, her boyfriend and friends of theirs and it is the highlight of our week. Every contestant apart from maybe 1 or 2 could be a star in their own right. I have watched American Idol, X Factor, British and American, The Voice etc. and most of these singers could win any of those shows. Ok so Diddy and Khaled are a bit over the top but it is quite funny, and to see Fergie as the compere is so entertaining. As previous reviewers have stated the only unfair thing about the show is that, having battled from show 1, to maybe progress to get to the final, the contestant from show 5 only has to win 1 round to get to the final and it is unfair. Hopefully they get another season and can right these wrongs because it is such an exciting show. There are some major future stars in our opinion to see here, including the wonderful Tim Johnson Jr, Zhavia, Ash Minor, Saeed Renaud, Jason Warrior and Candice Boyd. All of us would buy their albums and they are fantastic talents. We really cannot understand the negativity because the show is so different to other talent shows, and as I write am counting down the hours to this weeks show and Grand Finale. Please, Please give this show a chance and enjoy just as we all do.
Riviera (2017)
Don't waste your time
As some of the other reviewers have said, this started off with optimism then went downhill very quickly. I recommended to friends after 2 episodes and now I have had to apologise. The acting and actors are very wooden and amateurish. Sadly to say Lena Olin, Iwan Rheon, and most of the French actors were the main recipients of this crime. Julia Stiles wandered around as if a costume change was necessary for every scene and Anthony LaPaglia was frankly embarrassing. I'm not going to give away any spoilers, just to say that if you give this series a miss your brain will probably thank you. I, by the way like series such as Game Of Thrones, Ray Donovan, Homeland, Narcos etc, so I think I have good taste, although one mans meat is another mans poison as the saying goes.
