Why Add the Racial Component?

I watched this trying to understand better the facts of Covid and it unfolding since I only really heard stories from the news. This did an okayish job showing that as it mostly pertains to 3-6 patients examined in the whole film. Oddly they threw in a racial component to the film that seems unrelated and disjointed (they do mention that apparently covid affected minorities more than white people but that's unrelated to the BLM stuff they have later in the film).

Overall I had more empathy for nurses and what they went through so I'd say that's probably the message overall that resonated with me.

Don't Look Up (2021)

Ironic

I found this movie very ironic. The movie's writers and directors believe they are the Leo and Jennifer of this movie telling us that there is factual evidence, that the metaphorical comet is headed to Earth and the other side is just plugging their ears and actively working against fixing it through incompetence and greed. The moral of the movie, however, is that we should be working together for the protection of Earth despite political sides. So why would they use such a mean heavy handed characture of Republicans which will 100% lead to the opposite of what this movie teaches us is such a weird move. Republicans and Democrats have way more in common than not.

As for the movie it has so many beautiful moments that pull you into a serious drama then kicks you back out of the moment with weird Charactures. Jonah Hill as the "Straight White Man Who Got A Job Through Nepotism" did not need to be in this movie and ruined a lot of scenes.

Black Widow (2021)

Action Hero Movie With No Tie-Ins With The Avengers Universe

There are no super hero powers in this movie (except strength but isn't really used). This is your basic 007/Bourne Identity movie and doesn't add anything to the Avengers universe (beside the after credit scene).

The writers spent so much time on developing a relationship with Black Widows family that they forgot to do anything for a setup for the bad guys. The "evil" bad guy performs like 3 actions (scenes) in the whole movie and the "evil" organization he is running does nothing bad (just trying to recover a serum). All other build up for how bad he/they are is just dialogue which this movie spends a lot of time using.

Voyagers (2021)

Was Okay

Great sets, terrible plot. Felt like a teenager in his dad's suit. You will like this if you liked Hunger Games/Maze Runner/Percy Jackson movies.

The Power (II) (2021)

Standard Horror With A Message

The movie was a standard horror, well made, good acting, good sets and well filmed. Downside is there is a lot of dark scenes that are hard to make out the environment.

The plot is not just a murder spree by ghosts but given the social air in 2021 the plot is pretty guessable especially after seeing the cast and the social norms stated in the dialogue. I feel like it could have used a lighter hand in the message and been just as effective.

Hollow (I) (2011)

From A Found Footage Movie Lover

If you are into found footage you know these types of movies tend to be lower quality but a fun ride (if you don't like found footage this movie is probably a 2-3 star and you can stop reading here).

This movie is a fun ride about a creepy tree and the legend behind it. It is explored by 4 friends who are kind of likeable. Downsides are some frustrating decisions made by characters (run off into the dark/run off path when scared/leaving alone) and a couple cheap jump scares.
