The Wailing (2016)

More like The confusion
13 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Not my type of movie.

Most of characters, especially men, are very dumb at the beginning and seem to have an IQ of 50 at best. Even the little daughter seem more mature and smart.

Lot of scenes are very very very slow and repetitive. The movie is like 2h36 but could have been like 1h45.

The movie start with zombies here and here and no one really seem to care that much, alright let's do our job and move along, next day we chill and talk. Let's chill with some random girl that keep throwing rocks like it's normal.

A movie that want to be complex, mysterious and deep but it's just incoherent, inconsistent, irrational. Weird mix of questionable humour and drama.

An ending with lot of nonsense and no explanation.

Also...

  • At the beginning, when they go to Japanese house, why don't they just arrest him when they see the mass photos of victims and murders? His dog also attack the police and priest, but no, let's just say sorry and move on, randomly go to another scene like nothing happen. At least investigate a bit more on him? Tell your boss, anything?

  • Is the Japanese good, bad? Was he good at some point, or always bad. One thing is sure, he don't like to... communicate. If you're good and want to stop some evil thing, why don't you... SAY it? Especially when there is this translator around?

  • Who is evil, the Japanese, the shaman who came for help but who is evil somehow, or the random girl in white who kinda come out of nowhere... Even at the end it's unclear. It's a movie that end in lot of possible interpretations, in a frustrating way. Anyone can be right if their arguments look legit about the ending and the movie in general.

  • The scene at the end where the Japanese is no longer dead but who is satan and he like to take some photos... Lol just cringe.

  • The father of church who say ''are you sureeee it's paranormal, just let the doctors do their job :)'' bro there are like zombies outside. Can you be any more useless?

  • There is this deleted ending where they show that the Japanese is kinda in team with the shaman (not sure why it's deleted but anyway). So the idea is that the Japanese send some curse to people and then the family randomly call this shaman in particular so the shaman can... I don't know, send curse to the victims too? Why do this demon need the shaman anyway?

  • If this shaman is so popular in the story, he must be good at his job. But if he team with the demon, he must actually ''lose'' most of his fights since he's in the enemy team. Again, doesn't make much sense.

  • At the end there is this girl in white, is she evil or not, not sure... But she say : just wait and chill here or your family die. The dad don't listen and go, and see his family dead. So waiting would... have helped, how exactly? Lol. Lady in while would have time to... resurrect them, or wat?

I guess you need to know a bit (or a lot) about the culture of this country and about shamans in general to understand stuff, maybe mythology. I guess actors were fine and sound effect and effect in general were good.

Interstellar (2014)
7/10
8,7/10? More like 7/10 for me.
18 March 2024
A good science fiction film, but in my humble opinion it doesn't deserve this rain of 10/10 that I see on imdb and an 8.7 overall. Maybe with the big rating, I had too high expectations.

The plot is good, the actors are good. The music is very good too, I even had the impression that it carried the film to a certain point.

The planets visited were a bit disappointing, I wish there was more to it than that. In all the infinity and unknown of space, there is no limit to the imagination and frankly, there hasn't been much.

Movie was a little long at times, and the end, you kinda could see it coming. Theories about gravity were often weird.

The rebellious father who doesn't care about the teachers' opinions when it comes to his son irritated me a little. I found him immature.

I found that people didn't care a bit when other people of team died. ''Ah he's dead, dammit! Oh well, let's continue... It seems like we had more empathy for robots. The robots were still cool though.

I found that there were a few easy jokes and a light atmosphere in difficult moments and it was a bit unrealistic. As much as the film was long, the beginning was very fast, almost too fast, with the random father who overnight becomes a potential hero to save the planet.

At the end, it felt a bit like I was watching a weird Outer Limit scenario. It becomes a little cheesy, sometimes a little tryhard without really providing anything credible.

I see "best movies ever" everywhere, I find it exaggerated. It was a good film, which entertained me. A good 7/10 for me, I recommend.

Better Than Us (2018–2019)

Okay serie if you're bored
5 March 2024
At first, it reminded me a lot of the movie I, Robot, with the cop who doesn't like robots, the main rules about robots and stuff. I found it an interesting serie but with quite a few downsides that make it just decent. I watched it when I was sick and wanted to pass time and it worked out fine.

The lead actress who plays the robot is talented; to some extent, she carries the show - not enough to make the serie great but enough for it to remain intriguing and good. A major downside of this series is questionable decisions and behavior by many characters including protagonist's wife who positions herself as a good mother but does not hesitate in moving her children away from their father unlawfully.

Too many characters have secret relationships with others characters which become awkward and unrealistic. Many characters are rather uninteresting as their personality can be summed up in a word or two like - teeming teenagers; they often look like walking clichés.

Everyone seems to betray everyone often for doubtful reasons only creating sensationalism in series which becomes repetitive just as much as ridiculous; constant shoutings then everyone whispering into each other's faces are also common-place scenarios. Traduction work here is terrible & does not reflect any similarity with text at all-it's completely different both sentence-wise & meaning-wise.

People keep losing themselves then find themselves again only to lose themselves again-they intertwine continuously. People keep changing mind about highly important life decisions every 2 minutes-90% acts susceptible towards corruption since system itself seems easily corruptible. Awkward love stories abound-one person suddenly loves another person out of blue.

I almost stopped watching after ten episodes but still continued - I would give 6.5/10 considering suspenseful twists involved and actors' good performances (for robot girl & cool little girl.)

Ridiculous, don't make much sense
1 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
So much ridiculous stuff in this movie. I don't understand this 6.7 rating.

At the beginning of the film, the girl is too suspicious and too quickly imagines the worst. It's your mother. For 17 years. If there is anything strange with the medication, ask her, insist. She plays Columbo very quickly I think.

Her baby dies after 2 hours, it is made official with the hospital, but the mother finds herself with another child out of nowhere who appears nowhere in the data. Could I do that? Steal a baby and just raise it, no one asks questions. Lol.

The mother who keeps the top secret papers that explain everything in a box next to her daughter. Seriously?

The gentleman who wants to help the girl who tells him that she is being poisoned and locked up by her mother, I would look behind me so as not to be attacked personally.

The last scene, a bit of anything to create sensationalism that doesn't make much sense.

The explanation of the film was too simplistic, disappointing. ''Ur mum is just evil''

The good sides though: Good actresses, the suspense is there, but we are especially curious to see if the girl gets through it, perhaps sympathy since she is disabled.

Beef (2023– )

Original and intriguing
20 September 2023
We start the series with a fairly extreme case of road rage and we identify with the character because it's true that in life we are sometime angry and that society demands that we always repress this anger. The story is original and the main characters are interesting, deep, both complex and very human. But at the same time, very marginal in their own way.

We always want to see the next episode, see what's going to happen, see how messy it's going to be. We follow characters who have bad sides and who can behave selfishly, but we identify with them despite everything and we become attached to them.

The bad points of the series which can be good points at times or depending on opinions, is that it's a little too rocknroll, it goes a little too much in all directions and in all genres. There's even a bit of completely random horror at one point. It's very extreme, we go from we adore each other, family is sacre to I hate you and I want to see you dead to it's important to be united and again and again in yoyo effect. It ends up getting a little awkward.

The humor is good and the drama too, the mix is weird but interesting and it captures our attention. It's a weird series but generally in a good way, maybe 70% in a good way, but when you're in the 30% it's borderline cringe, a bit nonsense.

Ending didn't make much sense.

Very good actors and an addictive story despite everything. I recommend. A good 7.7/10 for me I would say.

One Piece (2023– )
8/10
Very entertaining. Good watch!
12 September 2023
A good 8.2/10 at least for me. Like many people, I was a little skeptical about this series, but ultimately it was a nice surprise.

Let's be honest, it was quite a challenge to make a good series with ''real people'' based on the one piece anime. In fact, it must be a challenge to do that with any animes. We have seen several phenomenal flops in the past. But One Piece succeeded. I've seen Naruto, Bleach but I haven't seen One Piece yet. I really like the universe, the pirates, the marine, the different characters.

The actors are good, the characters are interesting and their story is interesting too. I must admit that I have a crush on the actress Emily Rudd. We feel the anime side, the dialogues of the characters which are sometimes cheesy but still get to our emotions or I don't know how to say it. We feel attached to most characters.

It's not the masterpiece of the century either, but frankly I really like it, I have fun watching this series and I recommend it!

Nothing really new. Similar to a boring filler
21 July 2023
Since the first film, which was still good and refreshing, the serie really gone downhill. The second was still correct, and then it was less and less good. This fifth film is really very ordinary and boring. The main character is very unfriendly and uninteresting. The story brings nothing new, we still use the same recipe. I really didn't have a lot of expectations, but this movie was kinda bad, below the average horror movie.

I try to be quite generous with horror movies most of the time, but it's hard to put more than four stars. It was fun to see the father and mother again, and a few other characters, but that's about it.

I do not recommend seeing it in the cinema. Maybe see it at home if you liked the early films, but don't expect much!

Black Mirror: Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too (2019)
Season 5, Episode 3
7/10
I dunno I thought it was pretty funny and decent
19 July 2023
Def not a fan of Miley Cyrus but in this she was actually not bad in my opinion. The two sisters teen were funny and likeable.

I don't know why the top popular reviews here are like 1 or 2. It's true that it's way more soft than black mirror in general, and different for sure, but it was not that bad. I think it was actually good. And the vilains were pretty scary in some way.

I think the people are a bit rough on the reviews here. It's not a crime for Black mirror to do a different episode sometime.

Pros : funny, good/original idea, Miley Cyrus was actually pretty good and it made me forget about her ''weird time'' a few years ago. The sisters are cool.

Cons : Def different from your typical black mirror. I say keep your expectations low to be sure.

Less ''adult'' than your average black mirror for sure, but still entertaining, it's okay if overall the other black mirror keep their style.

Good and intriguing, but lacks common sense and logic.
11 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I understand that Stephen King recommends this series because it is a genre similar to his. A genre that I like, full of mystery, a bit like the Langoliers.

I'm only at episode 1 and I see several problems in logic and characters.

At the beginning, the little girl who opens her window despite the very dangerous context. No one... explained to her? Why is she so stupid? Her young age does not excuse everything. Nobody told her not to believe people outside at night?

It wasn't even her grandmother, she says so herself, but she still quickly opens to her without hesitation?

And the mother who stays away without moving? She's not trying to catch her daughter?? She knows the danger if her daughter opens her window. Hello, reaction?

The habitants cannot leave, there is no network. People who pass by disappear from the world. No one reacts, outside of this village? People don't come out, don't respond, people disappear...

When the new family arrives, the sheriff tells the others not to talk to them. But why? No reason really. He tells them to continue on the road as if nothing had happened. So that they themselves realize the problem, this curse that prevents them from going out. OK.

But why put spikes on the road? It could put the family in danger, stuck outside. In fact, it backfired on them. It hit their own tires lol.

We let them die against the monsters? Was that the plan, or...

The child who is seriously injured, the nurse tells the father to leave, to go see the mom... And the father actually leaves his child alone, with a stranger, with strange people. Weird behavior again. It seems to me that if my young child is injured, I stay with him. If my wife is awake, good news, but I'm staying with my seriously injured child.

People compare it to Lost and they're kind of right. Lots of mystery but little logic and seemingly few answers in sight. Just mystery to make mystery. It's a bit of a bait. 6.5/10 for me so far

But I will continue to watch for now.

Kind of surprised to see a 7.7 rating for this here, though. People are generous.

Pros : Mysterious, intriguing, fun and interesting, somewhat original idea.

Cons : weird decision by characters, weird logic, average actors so far.

Good idea, could have been better. Shame but still ok
24 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Good and original idea, as expected from Black mirror. We got two good persons who work in a ship and everything is fine, they send their ''mind'' into replica and they can somehow live their life. The idea seem good since they can keep their morale up, see their wife, their children. They're even pretty famous.

I agree with some other reviewers, why not just send the replica in the Dangerous space. They could/should have explained that a bit.

Also, if there are some crazy dudes around, why not give them some body guard. I think that's why the good guy decided to go in a calm place.

I guessed the ending wrong : I thought the david would kill the good guy and use his replica, and fake it to the wife. Could have used the scene of ''how did he know?!'' screamed a few time by the good guy (maybe their mind could have been connected since he used the other guy replica, so he could have faked it well.

The end I don't know... a bit easy. Rushed imo. ''haha I killed ur family so you CAN understand me'' What?

David character don't make much sense. Starting from a nice guy, father, who like his children. Ok it's crazy what happened to him, but becoming a murderer, a kid killer? It was a bit out of nowhere. Why don't he try to kill the murderers of his family, instead? Seem like he didn't care much.

But the atmosphere and all was good. Like, imagine being the cliff guy, your coworker is getting weird, do you go to sleep and go to your replica? What will he do? Will he suicide himself? You need two people to make the thing in space work.

Good actors for sure, good ideas. Just very. But at the end I was just like : uh... ok...

6.5/10 because of the very unsatisfying ending.

Good horror movie, worth a watch
15 June 2023
One of those movies that I really want the characters to live lol, compared to the other old classic low IQ guys who keep drinking and split up vs ennemy even if they are like 10 vs 1.

The title is a bit weird since you are expecting something different when you start this movie, but it's not the end of the world I guess.

Feel like some critics are a bit harsh here. It's not the #1 movie of all time but it's a pretty decent one. Lot of decent jump scares, good actress, vilains that we REALLY hate.

Some things that make few sense, but still, I can't understand that Cabinet of curiosity get a 7 and then this get like a 6.3 to be honest. Deserve a solid7, 7,5.

Original doesn't mean good
29 March 2023
Just finished this movie, and I'm a bit disappointed, I must admit.

Movie felt kinda empty, without soul, without substance. Even the title is the same : it barely make any sense with the actual movie.

The beginning looked interesting, with a little asian girl that look like a pretty nice actress already, and weird tough guy who come to talk to her. Is he evil? Is he good? Can't tell.

Then, here come the two dads, and the others characters. And then, the emotions we feel are just... ''what?'' lol. ''What the hell is happening?'' but not in a good way. Everything look cringe and awkward.

The actors in general are okay but def not good enough for a drama like this. I like Dave Bautista, I think he's funny in WWE and in Guardians of Galaxy, but in this kind of horror suspense movie, I didn't find him credible or convincing.

Lot of ''but... why?'' felt in this movie and no really answers.

Lot of VERY questionables links with the bible, like with the 4 cavaliers (lol what the hell was that).

Awkward ending, at the image of the whole movie.

And the forced homophobia drama ''They (the whole world?) hate us! They don't want us to exist!'' No... Please, just no. We're not in 1955 we're in 2023. It's getting old.

5/10 because of the originality and the somewhat intriguing aspect of the movie, though it's kinda disappointing overall. Not a 1/10 for sure, but can't really recommend.

The Last of Us: Look for the Light (2023)
Season 1, Episode 9

Good but a bit rushed
15 March 2023
Everything is kinda good as usual. Acting. Music. Sound effects. The story is nice. I think the people who played the game will be happy.

Only thing is the episode is very short, I think it's the shortest of the serie.

I just don't understand the logic of time here. Why do they only give this episode 42 mins or something while the ep 3 and 7 were a bit slow and long sometime.

I don't think I'll watch season 2-3 since I know what will happen and it will not be as interesting. For me anyway.

Serie overall seem a bit overhyped. It's def not a genius show, but it's a good video game adaptation for sure. A good 7.5, maybe 8/10.

Last of flashbacks
2 March 2023
This serie got a very particulary style of putting very long flashbacks, like, as long as the episode basically. Some awkward lengths that could def have been shorter. But at least it was interesting to see more about Ellie lore and stuff. But just like the episode 3, it's a bizarre episode that almost make us forget that we are in some zombies infestations apocalypse serie. Characters basically just chill and have fun, and play video games.

On the good sides, I think that actors are are pretty good and I think Bella Ramsey do a pretty good job for Ellie. Only thing is it feel a little bit like an anime, with full of long flashbacks episodes, but in this case, we only have 9 episodes in this season, so maybe we can focus a bit more on the point and shorten flashbacks a little bit.

6/10 but still can't wait to see next episode.

Actually surprised by how decent it is
31 January 2023
One of those movies I did watch with zero expectations. Only one expection I had was ''hey this movie still got a 6.3/6.4 note on imdb while it's kinda... just a movie about climbing a tower, right? So it may be not too bad. And the idea is kinda original, or different from what I watch these days. So why not give a try.

And yea, it was actually not too bad. Even pretty decent. I wanted to know what will happen next after each scenes. No boring lenghts, actually good actors, maybe a random forced love drama at some point but it was ok.

I'm pretty sure it was a challenge to make a ''climb a tower'' movie interesting for viewers even if it's long, and they did it well. The characters were interesting enough so I did care about them and didn't want them to die. Even if I would def not try what they're doing. The views and all were scary for sure.

I know some opinions are mixed about the realism, the logic and the mistakes of the climbers, so I think if you're a climber, don't expect much of realism and be ready to notice some important mistakes even if the two characters are supposed to be pros. It's definitely a movie and not reality lol.

At some moments you can say ''Hey why did they not to this or that'' , I guess maybe we can explain it with tunneling vision/mind because of heavy stress and lack of food/water. To be honest, there were a few smart moves in the movie.

I enjoyed my virtual climbing trip. You can give it a try!

The Menu (2022)

7,3 for this absurdity, are you serious?
18 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
One of the most absurd movie I've seen in a while. Some sort of jaded crazy vilain who think he's better than anyone in this world, extremely moralizing and think he's a god who can decide who deserve to die or not (depending if they respect food or not lol ok).

This could be somewhat credible if only the main vilain was crazy and in some sort of psychosis, but EVERY one in his crew is as crazy as him. Some ingredient poison in the food who control them, something? Nah, they're just as crazy. Everyone. No one ever say ''hey maybe it's a bit awkward to follow this dude who like to kill everyone and want to kill us all''. EVERYONE is weird.

The actor deserve to die because ''I watched one of your movie and it was awful so you must die'' uh ok.

Very pretentious, endless awkward moralizing speechs between each food.

The guy say that people will all die, but no one in the whole movie really try to do anything. Hey, you gonna die burned, try to fight, try to kill one? You will die anyway! ''Nah, let's just sit and eat, and wait.''

Whole movie was weird, and I usually like weird movie because it make sense at some point. This one was weird but not in a good way. Boring, repetitive, just a main vilain who control everything from the beginning to the end, blabla-ing why he hate all of his clients and these ones should die (hey do you remember the menu last time? No? You deserve to die!!) Wow sorry I forgot stuff sometime, your food is not 100% of my life.

The kitchen and food industry is tough and sometime your clients are very mean! So you will die!

Seriously lol

Bad and embarassing movie. I think I will not trust IMDB anymore for the notes.

Was still fun to see the good old sisters again
6 January 2023
So I'm still not sure about this movie. I tried to watch it without any expectations. I think 6 is a rating that make sense for it.

I liked the beginning with the little actresses, younger versions of the sorceress. The main little actress was actually pretty good and funny, was mimicking the main sorceress very well.

Was a bit sad to not see Dani, Max and Allison, or at least a little mention.

Maybe I'm just older, but I felt like original sorceress from 1993 were more scary, more dangererous, like the soul draining thing. I was like, wtf lol. In this movie, everything is nice, cool, we almost live in some unicorn world.

I laughed a bit sometime, but whole movie was not that fun. It was ok. Nostalgia did the trick, I suppose.

The three main characters teenagers were not very likeable. A bit linear, boring, almost annoying. When main character threw the random evil patriarchal comment I was like, uh ok?

We have the modern/diversity check list with the gay couple and the men disguised in women, I suppose.

Overall I didn't feel like I wasted my time, I mean I like the three ladies, and they did pretty well at their age. So a 6/10.

Tired of haters. This is better than average horror movie
19 November 2022
This movie was mysterious and you alway want to see what is happening next. It start with a woman going into a airbnb and we don't know what is going on in this house.

(I don't know btw who had the idea for 600 characters minimum for review, this is too long for no reason)

The actors are good, the story is good. It's not a movie that give no answers, we get an explanation on why those things are happening.

Only downside for me was the police reaction. I wonder if the producer is very objective with the law force. I really believe they would not act like this.

Really surprised with those 3/10 and 4/10 reviews. If this is 3/10, then most horror movies would be like -12/10. It's worth watching for sure.

Good but awkward, try to listen to it like an anime

A lot of people compare squid game to this but I don't think it's really comparable. Except for the game thing but it's like a drama vs show based on manga. So there are some weird characters who look like no one in our world, some weird reaction, action and fight sometime (often) not realistic but cool. Lot of flashback while people are fighting lol (just like an anime).

Sometime, the reactions of characters are just like... why the hell he's doing this? Lol

But the show was fun and we want to know who's behind all of this.

Good surprise. This movie was recommended in some forums.

It's the kind of movie you're not really sure who is really bad or who is really good. There are 3 main characters, the good wife, the husband who seem nice, but for him, life is like a fast and you must win, have money and stuff.

And there is this awkward guy who keep giving them gifts, he seem nice but is he?

Good actors and nice subject I think, we don't talk enough of it but it's a real problem.
