Shôgun: Crimson Sky (2024)
Cannot wait another week
This has to be one of my favorites episodes in all my years watching tv. Great cinematography, great writing, great acting, this has to be an all time high for quality tv.
I won't spoil anyone, but let me say that the attention to detail is close to perfection, the pace, the timing, the choreography, everything is masterfully crafted.
I don't think I have anything bad to say about the episode. I never read the book, never saw the previous series, so I can't talk about accuracy to the original story, but given how well this episode is, does anyone cares?
In a time when everything is a competition over the best CGI, it is absolutely refreshing that the director was able to pull something that felt so real, so profound and yet so entertaining. Not sure how long the episode was, but felt like 5 minutes.
I think I'll go into hibernation for a week in order to endure the torture of having to wait 7 days to watch the final episode.
Jack Ryan (2018)
Enjoyed it a lot
Gotta be honest, while I enjoyed most of Jack Ryan's movies, I'm not a Clancy's reader. I've read a few of his books, but none on Ryan's.
The series is enjoyable and somewhat credible. Despite being episodic it keeps pacing quite well. The only drawback is the villain, in the end turns out being flat and predictable.
Another minor flaw is that this could've been more raw. It stays politically safe and misses an opportunity or two in being more controversial.
Ratatouille (2007)
Beyond anything I have felt before
There are just a really few movies that made me think about the real meaning of life, not from the death and life perspective, but, from a what we do one.
I never went to see this movie to the cinema, even though most people told me it was great. Almost one year after its release I'm sitting here in my couch really touched, and with the inspiration to review a movie for the first time ever.
I won't spoil this movie to you guys, trust me, this movie is really worth watching. I can write a thousand words, but still, don't say anything at all. This movie is beyond any explanation than can be given to a linear story with a sole meaning, simply because it is not. The magic, resides in the fact, that it can actually morph into anything you desire, pretty much like Fighting Club does, but in a different, and particular way.
The only thing I will say is that in the closing scene, I was both crying and smiling, this is the first time that a movie gives me this kind of reflective happiness. This movie does the job, makes you think, makes you laugh, makes you enjoy every single moment of it, as if it were indeed... your own life whilst watched reflected in a (as strange as it sounds) RAT'S LIFE.
