This excellent movie is clearly about the stupidity and loathsomeness of the human species and the self-inflicted extinction that it will eventually receive and deserve as the inescapable JUSTICE inherent in EXISTENCE.
When Klaatu attempts to explain the workings of the space vessel to Bobby, an ignorant yokel, typical of American stupidity, exclaims "keep going mister he's fallin' for it!" laughing in his ignorance.
When Klaatu begins talking REALITY as a response to a reporter's interview question, the reporter gets uncomfortable and cuts him off then moves on because no one wants to hear REALITY or TRUTH, but rather let's remain ignorant because ignorance is bliss while we go over the cliff into self-inflicted Extinction.
When the army kills Klaatu, they feel the problem has been solved because that's the way humans, especially American's, deal with a problem. Shoot it, kill it, problem solved!
When Klaatu at the end states "pardon me for being blunt" it's because he's appalled at the stupidity and ignorance he's found among humanity and has to throw REALITY in their face because they don't deserve anything better and his tone betrays his futility in attempting to reason with swine who fail to see the pearls thrown to them for their benefit, pearls that will be wasted in the cesspool that is Humanity.
The movie is clearly a statement about the pathetic qualities of Homo Sapien as played out against a Savior that's arrived hopelessly attempting, in a wasted effort, to save them from their pathetic selves.
In the 1950's Exxon researched that global warming would eventually threaten human existence but they buried the memo and kept it secret because quarterly profit was more important than the demise of Humanity. That says it all! That's who we are, that's what we do, we kill, lie, cheat, all in a pathetic grubbing for money.
That's what this movie is about and what it reveals.
