The Killer (2023)
Overblown and dull
I was excited about this movie and awaited it's release with some impatience...but what I got was a film with more style over substance.
The killer's monologue, the backbone of the movie, was flacid and juvenile. This stone-cold machine of an assassin struggled to control his heartbeat after waiting days for a shot. He gets upset and freaks as soon as things don't go to plan, despite his voiceover telling us he plans for every contingency. He gets so upset when his girlfriend, half his age, gets roughed up that he embarks on a vendetta to kill all involved? The Jackal would turn in his grave. There are no insights into the mind of the man, despite us being privy to his thoughts. There is no clinical clarity to this guy. He, and this movie, are a mess. Dull, 3/10 and a Friday night wasted.
The Huntress of Auschwitz (2022)
Fantastically Awful
Some of the worst dialogue and acting (particularly by the lead) I've ever seen. Woeful! But somehow I sort of saw most of it. A wonderful waste of time.
Apparently I need to keep writing more. Please don't waste time reading more. There are so many better things to do! The lead actress is so awfully bad. It's like she is reading her lines sight unseen. Oh dear! 235 more characters needed! I can only assume the producers were related to the lead. The few times English actors are involved, the quality rockets, despite the writing. Perhaps the producers should note this next time that they cast...in the unlikely event someone backs them again.
Werewolf by Night (2022)
A lot of movie packed into a short
What a wonderful surprise - something that felt completely fresh from the Marvel Studio, despite the fact that it features one of folklore's oldest beasties, a werewolf. The acting from the two leads was excellent, no surprises there; the supporting cast did their bit; whimsy and humour from the non-human characters as we have seen Marvel do so well before. I liked that it was short in Gothic black-and-white, reminiscent of Hammer Horrors. It was well-paced, exciting and kept me riveted to the screen.
An excellent piece of work that looks like a pilot, though other reviewers have already said it is to be a one-off. A great pity.
Army of the Dead (2021)
Just watch any other movie
Please listen to all the bad reviews. So many of them like me reviewing for the first time because we've realised we can't get back the two and a half hours we could have spent doing ANYTHING else. Like watching ANY other movie. It is bad. End of.
