Reasonable Doubt (2022)
Uncomfortably to watch
The acting is shockingly bad, as is the costume design which is hilariously inappropriate for the work settings which they claim to be in. Also the hypocrisy and blatant racism makes it an uncomfortable watch.
I felt when it started it had all the elements for it to be witty and clever but it seemed to fall short at every hurdle, with stereotypes cast in every situation, and obvious characters like the snotty son, and over the top assistant.
It feels a shame that this could be been successful but feel incredibly short of anything worth watching. I didn't dare make it to episode two in fear of being further let down.
Xiong chu mo: Chong fan di qiu (2022)
Nonsensical, poorly plotted film
This film had no idea what it was. From random smutty humour, very poor English voice acting, to random destruction and a plot that jumps so randomly it's hard to follow as an adult, let alone a child. How this film even got cinema time I will never know, when other better films go straight to TV or steaming. I watched with a child who was just bored and not captivated at all.
How I Met Your Father (2022)
Fun new take on the original
It took a few episodes, but the series is really worth a go. It's easy-going, with fun characters and a storyline that's easy to binge in a couple of sittings. It doesn't feel like an exact copy, but inspired by. Hope it continues.
Turning Red (2022)
Weak for Pixar, a disappointment
Having a 9+ rating was the first sign of confusion. For a very young style used in the animation I was then not sure whether to show it to my child. Immediately instincts were correct as there are teenage references with language, puberty, boy-obsessed stereotypes etc. I can't see if this had had a theatrical release that it would have been met with much approval from parents who gladly take young ones to PGS, (eg Moana which is a 6+ On Disney)
To rate this against their best films, Toy Story etc, it falls shorts on expectations and fails to deliver an exciting plot, depth in character development and overall intelligence.
Good on Paper (2021)
Surprisingly very funny
The plot twist I thought was really funny and there were several really laugh out loud moments. The leads acting was really spot on and had excellent comic timing. The best of the Netflix films I have seen.
Crash Pad (2017)
Bad acting, terrible script and just NOT funny
It's hard to enjoy a single part of this film. I feel let down that such a great cast condemned themselves to a juvenile, non-laughable script. I am sure that this film will be lost in the void of Netflix and not be a rewatch for many.
