Bones (2001)
Interresting...
Of course this movie doesnt have good plot, acting or direction, but it's interesting to a certain point. It seems to try to imitate the old 70' balxploitation films(well, Pam Grier does star in it) and it does that good. It may be just a film to pimp Snoop Dogg's music and for the studio to make a quick buck out of an Halloween flick, but it's worth a viewing if you just feel like seeing a kind of modern blaxploitation attempt and just relax while watching a mindless film. Oh, a last thing, all the plot points can be predicted 20 minutes before they happen and the ending is more like laughing matter than scary stuff.
Tian can di que (1979)
Oh my god!!!
Crippled Masters? Who get the ideas for these flicks? I can barely imagine the sick person who was looking for a story to make a good flick and all he come up with is "I know! I'll make a movie about two crippled guys who do kung fu!". Anyway, the guy who thaught of this get high points for originality, as watching an armless guy and a legless one beat up people is highly entertaining. Just don't expect anything more than cheesy, campy fun.
About the story, it goes a little like this: A man gets both arm chopped off(producing a low amount of blood for this kind of flick) by an evil warlord(who has a weird drawing thingie under the eye). He then stumble around with both arm chopped off, eating pig food and such. He then meet a follow handicapable(hehe) who had his leg melted with a very low quantity of acid by the same warlord. Fast running on hands and stump hits ensue.
First of all, you gotta respect the two actors' ability to cope with their handicap and do kung fu. And they're quite good at it too(for crippled guys, I mean).
Next thing that make this movie fun is the very low production value, causing bizarre and often funny mistakes. This film also got the loud punching sound that goes along with kung fu flicks.
In the end, I'd recommend renting this flick if you feel like watching two crippled kung fu masters fight again an evil warlord who can block with his back can be entertaining, or just for the novelty factor, because there isn't much else to it...
La loi du cochon (2001)
Quebec's finest
For a while, the only kind of movie Québec could produce were comedies and some dramas. With "Pig's Law", we get a refreshing breath in the form of a crime film. And God did I enjoy the experience.
*Possible spoilers*
This film has wonderful characters, which are acted perfectly. Every one of them has something special, they all have that little touch to make them funny. But the funniest of them are the thug pair, Paquette and "Chose", and Jordowski. The only dislikeable character is Adrien, who only come out as a racist, upthight suburbanite.
This film also has a wonderful sense of humor and direction, which both remind me of "Snatch". And speaking of direction, it's probably the best to come out of Québec since a long time and the story is well crafted. In the end, every character get what he(or she) deserve.
For every single of you American folks, I advice you seek out the DVD, it has English subtitles. And for French Canadians folks, it's a must see.
Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones (2002)
More FX and Yoda with a lightsaber. So how good is it?
I like Star Wars. I'm not a Star Wars nerd who collect everything about it, but I love the films. I loved the original trilogy and disliked Episode 1. I went into "Attack of the Clones" expecting an okay movie, more or less. Now that I saw it, I can say it's on par with "Return of the Jedi". On par but just a few notch under it.

The main attraction of this film are the FX, of course. I doubt there is even one scene which wasn't even a little digitally altered. The background, spaceships, creatures and even digital humans are breathtaking. However, the best part of this special effects fest is the last 40 minutes, which consist an epic war involving Jedi and Clones fighting against Droids is simply heartstopping, immediately followed by the final battle opposing Count Dooku and the great Jedi master Yoda in a lighsaber fight. And Yoda kick butts.
The other part of the movie which I liked is the great score by John Williams. In this Star Wars, he does a great job of recycling previous songs, including, of course, the Star Wars theme, the Darth Vader theme and "Duel of the Fates"(you know, the theme that play during the Darth Maul fight at the end of Episode 1.). They all fit well and sound spectacular.
This film also has fault, and even maybe too many for non-Star Wars fan. The acting is average, sometimes too stiff and so is the direction, which is very straightfoward except for a few bright moments. The story move too fast to have enough emotion or momentum. It's like George Luca guessed that the average American has an attention span of two minutes. The last problem is that George Luca can't write about love. The love story between Padme and Anakin is a cliche full of cheesy lines(What's with Anakin comparing Padme to sand?).
In the end, it come down to this: you'll like Star Wars Episode 2 either if you're a fan of the serie or if you like spectacular effect. But overall it's much overrated.
Dip huet seung hung (1989)
The best action film ever.
Many Hollywood movies imitated the Hong Kong "heroic bloodshed action films", but the one that brought the genre to America is still the best. The Killer is, in my opinion, not just the greatest of the genre but also the greatest action movie that was ever made.
The direction in this movie is flawless. John Woo did a great job of using slow downs to make action scenes more poignant. Shoot-out scenes are also beautifully choreographed to a point where it become poetic and those scenes are almost always present, so the blood pumping adrenaline and bullet-ballet never stop. The music, which is opera like classical music, highly contrast with the violence on-screen, but this come as a good thing, making everything more high-octane. The story is not perfect and has its share of flaws. Telling the story of the kind-hearted killer and the rebellious cop come kinda as a cliche, but the story of friendship that unite them make the rest quickly forgotten. There is a little note I'd like to add about the little monologues and dialogues that come only as tiresome and unessesary. It's frustrating to hear Inspector Li explain that Jeff is not like other killers and that he has a conscience when we had already figured it out.
The acting range from very good to low. Chow Yun-Fat does a fantastic job as the killer and he make us believe in the passion of his character. Danny Lee, who play Inspector Li, does an okay job, not much more. Sally Yeh may seem like she is overacting, but it fits perfectly the role of Jennie. Meanwhile, most of the minor role are way overacted. I saw this film in French, and while the dubbing is right, some of the words seems a little out of place. I don't know if the same English version has the same problem, but I could bet it has.
If you like action and you have not seen this movie yet, I urge you to go rent, borrow or steal a copy of it. John Woo is the master of action and you'll see why with this movie. It's sad that we lost him to the dreaded wasteland know as Hollywood.
N'ajustez pas votre sécheuse (2001)
A great TV show!
This TV show is very funny and a must watch for anybody with who understand French(and get the channel it's on). It might just be a bunch of sketches, but those sketches mange to be funny in a weird, "This make absolutely no sense", retarded way. As that monster with spinning nipples say: "Ouha!". It's a shame it is getting canceled.
Funland (1987)
Don't watch this movie, even if your life depend on it.
The box said "Non-stop action."... is this legal?! The whole movie is just a stupid clown talking about his state of mind... who honnestly want to see this! The only action during this movie is the clown shooting some guy. Don't rent it, unless you want to be bored and waste your time.(I know it all sound crude but I wan't to save some from making the same mistake as me.)
