Avatar: The Last Airbender: The Southern Air Temple (2005)
Easily one of the best in the series.
Where do I start with this?? Despite the animation still having that early-season "charm", the music, action, a new character to counteract Zuko, the second best duel to be in the show, as well as Aang's distress at finding a harsh truth. This episode does not mess around. The aesthetic and art on Zuko's side is more superior to me but both halves of the story are a step up from the first two episodes. The flashbacks are funny.

Truly great action and tension
This is a huge step-up from episode 1. The action with Zuko is tense as he first comes to the village, and Aang's fighting style is very unique here, as this is the introduction to this part of himself. I would give minus points for not as much Iroh as there should be, but as this takes place at the South Pole, the scenery/aesthetic and action make up for it.

Subpar start with lots of classic and important moments.
For me obviously the weakest season opener. The humor is different than any other episode, and not in a good way. Otherwise, the opening and closing are really strong and tie in with other episodes later in the season as well as in season 3. Definitely worth rewatching again after finishing the series for the first time, as there is a lot set up here. Not a 10 because there's not much action and there's not much to come back to humor-wise.

An interesting watch
After watching the whole series, this was an interesting watch. Although everything is a little bit off as this is non-canon, the fight scene on the scaffolding makes this far from the worst episode when it comes to fights. The dialogue is weird and Zuko is actually evil? Likd he is very unlikeable in this episode--more than any episode in the real series. Even so, it's cool to see the origins of the show, and this is by no means bad.
