It (I) (2017)

This is a horror movie... so why did I cheer for the clown?

"It" is a modern masterpiece. As a horror fan, I spend a good amount of my time watching scary movies, hoping to find the one that recreates the fear and adrenaline I had with the first scary movie I ever saw. This is all of that and more.

"It" contains a multitude, far more than horror. A good horror movie carries you through all of life's emotions in its hour and half- to two hour time frame. Not just horror but love, joy, painful sorrow and of course horror. And somehow this movie makes you scream for joy and terror! (At least, I do.)

The viewer becomes part of the friend group, feeling their pain and anguish of adolescence and loss. You feel their affection and joy as they play together, and then their terror as they face their individual fears.

There is nothing else like this movie. "It" became an instant classic because of the impeccable writing, directing and acting and everyone else who contributed.

Insidious: The Red Door (2023)

Worst in the series

So very disappointing. While they did have all the original actors play their characters, points for that, the story was lacking.

If you loved insidious 1 and 2, you will hate this one. Attempts were made to make it relevant and interesting, and Dalton's roommate was such a good actress she nearly saved the entire movie. But alas, it could not be saved.

The ending seemed to leave it open (again) for another movie, god forbid. "Skeleton key" should have been the last installment, especially since Insidious 3 didn't even include the original characters!

Give it a try if only to find how the story ends but don't say I didn't warn you. It's bad.

The Office: Superfan Episodes (2020– )

New cold opens, deleted scenes, more character development

If you are a true Office fan, have watched the series through more than 50 times, this series is for you. Instead of having to watch the deleted scenes on the DVDs like we used to, they are seamlessly added into these episodes. There is more character development for smaller characters, you find deleted scenes and understand why they were cut (or not), and feel like you are watching the series for the first time. I cannot recommend this highly enough!

If your partner has never watched the series, it will be a very fun experience for both of you. And if you are listening to the podcast Office Ladies, they often talk about the extra scenes and you'll actually get to see them all in this version.

Incantation (2022)

I'm not going to waste any time. Whatever you think it is- you will be pleasantly surprised throughout. Twists and turns just when you think there couldn't POSSIBLY be anymore.

ABSOLUTELY recommend!

I was so excited for this movie, thinking it was another found-footage, online horror like the most recent pandemic hit Host. God I need to start reading IMDB reviews first.

Nothing happens. Absolutely nothing. No plot, no conflict, no crisis, no resolution.

Waste of time. If you enjoy artsy, indie non-horror, maybe this is for you. If you want to actually be scared, skip it.

We kept waiting for something to happen. She's so methodical. We love her from Ozarks so we tried it. Then it ended! Nothing happens from beginning to end! Save yourself the time and let Julia know she's more talented than these verbally abusive men.
