Profiled: The Black Man (2022)
The Assignment Was Misunderstood
Tina Knowles had some nerve to think she can speak on the behalf of everyday black women and their experiences with black men. Nothing has been debunked in this docu-series. If this mockumentary is meant to speak on the truth then the black community would exude excellence and prosperity!
This is the real truth!
"Black Men are dangerous"
Look at the IVP and femcide rates amongst black women in the community.
"Black Men are absent Fathers"
Look at the single mother rate of the black women compared to their counterparts.
"Black Men Devalue Black Women"
Rap Music Industry enough said.
"Black Men Don't Cry"
They are definitely crying with this mockumentary. The tide is shifting, black women are waking up and seeing the BS rhetoric that's being spewed about these Black Kangs.
Stop trying to gaslight black women collective by promoting the extreme minority of black men who love and respect their families and communities. They do not represent the collective of all black men.
A. Smith, Tina Knowles, OWN are out of touch with reality and FACTS.
Sistas (2019)
A WORK IN PROGRESS...
I initially had passed on watching Sistas in 2019 since Tyler Perry being the jack of all trades(writer, director and executive producer) had me giving major side eye. His track record writing stories about black women, not the best. One sentence to describe the writing of this show "Tyler Perry needs to get some other writers both male and female inside the writing room." TP being the only writer is not working. The storyline is harsh and jarring at times which makes no sense. There was so much plot holes(like the time span of how days/weeks Maurice had been in the hospital after his attack). There isn't much indicator of when time is moving in the show. It feels more like long days instead of weeks. The writing of the main female characters as usual started out good and then it went downhill. I do not believe Tyler should even touch pen to paper to write stories on black women and the lives they live. It's not that he painted them in stereotypical trope of the strong black women. It worst. They are DYSFUNCTIONAL in 2019(to present) where there is therapy and counseling for people with unhealed trauma. He clearly does not know much about today's black women and how they function. Some would say this is a cheap knockoff of Girlfriends, it's not for one the characters in Girlfriend showed some growth. Season 3 and it seems like we are stuck in Season 1 part 335.
Andi storyline makes no sense given the character's background- top of her class and chasing down a married man. Makes no sense given that she is suppose to be a good person...what good person sleeps with a man even after finding out he's married. It doesn't fit the good and ambitious character that Andi is. Gary sucks as an individual overall- angry, possessive, and aggressive no sane good and ambitious woman would want to be with him in real life.
Karen who seems as if she has some sense doesn't really have any given that she owns her own business. Her crazy attachment to Zac although he has moved on does not make sense to her character. The way she dogged him out then for her to suddenly want to be with him doesn't add up. It doesn't correlate well with the street smart salon owner she is. She seems the type to want her own man like she has her own business.
Danni is funny but not fearless. She seems more immature than anything else and the rest of the characters treat her so. She seems to have a good man in Preston but keeps messing up by putting her foot in her mouth, every time relationship issues occur between them the fact that he is white becomes a statement. We know he's white, stop reminding us. It's not his skin colour that matters but the charcater of who he is. T. P hasn't learned anything from Dr. King. The Danni character needs to work on her self esteem and grow up emotionally/mentally. Her own doubts and fear about going all in with Preston does not add up to her fearlessness she tries to portray. She seems more like a scared lil girl hiding behind funny quips and inappropriateness.
Sabrina is not the best written character. She pulls off the awkwardness really well but has issues owning her issh. She flips back and forth on making decision in regards to relationships. I feel this character needed more fleshing out before being introduced to us. Her storyline is a snooze fest compared to the other women. Her and Calvin's relationship was interesting at first but now its boozy.
Fatima, a fan favourite(not mine) story does not correlate well. Why would an intelligent and beautiful woman like her pick a man up off the street. She doesn't look it! Her character seems so ambitious to just be with someone like Zac(with his issues) I felt like she picked him up, brush him off and prop him up. The initial red flag popped right up when Zac told her he never had a woman speak to him the way she does, encourages him. Zac needs to work on his psychological and mental health given he went through a lot with the jail thing and all. I fear Fatima will become burden down by Zac's psychological and mental issues.
I have much more to say but I'll cut this review short. It has come to the point where I press fast forward on this show. The writing is long winded, direction of characters had so much wasted potential. Tyler Perry needs to get it together.
