The Rental (2020)
Much better than I expected
This was a pretty good movie. It was tense and definitely kept me engaged. It isn't a horror movie, it's more a slow burn psychological drama. I didn't realise Dave Franco directed this. As a first effort this was impressive and I'd definitely watch anything else he directs. I also like to see a follow up of this.
Future Man (2017)
Why the hell was this cancelled?
One of the funniest TV shows I've seen in a very long time. Why the heck would this be cancelled? Why make an awesome show and then cancel it? It makes zero sense.
Away (2020)
Stereotypes in Space
This series is about some random people that NASA picked up of the street and sent to Mars on a ship they didn't know anything about. All is not lost though be cause they're forever texting and calling home to discuss their intense feelings. They still have feelings when they're not texting though, you'll know be because they're forever arguing, plotting and crying. The captain was unwell and sorely compromising the stability of her crew but it turns out she was cranky because she was giving part of her water ration to a plant. Wtf? Every character was a total stereotype except for one...what is Hollywood's obsession with casting the British character as a highly educated black guy with a hyper English accent. As a brit, I have NEVER met this type of character in real life. It is a purely made up character and makes it impossible to take any scene he's in seriously. There are so many things wrong with this very very slow piece of Hollywood garbage. Oh...and I loathed they way we had to sit through them dictating their messages into a laptops while weeping and being sad.
Sala samobójców. Hejter (2020)
A Hidden Gem
I cannot fault this movie. The characters were believable and after a while I couldn't take my eyes off the screen. Thomas was utterly riveting as he transformed from hapless college dropout into a shark with a laser focus and a insatiable desire to win. This was a slow burn movie but one of the best things I've seen in a long time. It's interesting that the Right are portrayed in this as the bad guys and the Left as the good guys...but that's to be expected nowadays, especially on Netflix. All the same, this is definitely one to watch.
The Reef (2010)
They all deserve to die
So the film started out well but went bad fast. The women are an absolute nightmare and basically get the men killed by screaming, splashing around and basically doing everything you need to do to attract sharks. After the shark had its first meal they had a chance to swim for it but instead paddled in the water with a dumb b*tch screaming as the sun went down.
At that point in the movie where you start wishing the protagonists would actually die you know it's time to change the channel. ...also, if they the water was dangerous why didn't they bring any weapons? Even a knife would have been at least something.
The Green Inferno (2013)
Five Stars for the Gore
The main problem with this movie is that it didn't take itself seriously. It's like Roth had all the right ingredients but lost his nerve baking the cake. This was more budget Apocalypto meets Beverly Hills 90210 than Hostel in the jungle. The main actress basically carried this film and kept me watching.
I do think we should encourage more woke university students to get down to South America though. I think it would really make the world a better place and help them grow as fully functioning roast dinners.
Brahms: The Boy II (2020)
Worth a watch
Not a bad movie. It has enough to keep you entertained, the acting is good and the there's enough mystery to keep you guessing. I'd definitely recommend it. It isn't a horror but more of a spooky drama.
Kingdom (2014)
An amazing show but weirdly underrated
A top show with amazing fights and believable characters that draw you in. I don't understand why this got so little attention and why they wound it down after only three seasons? Every lead character had real depth and I feel robbed that we were denied a satisfactory closure to their stories. I really wish this would have been picked up by Netflix or Amazon because I would never have missed an episode.
The Devil All the Time (2020)
You won't be disappointed.
I won't bore you with a wordy review. This was an excellent film with a plethora of rich characters and substories. Holland and Patterson were both equally compelling. This movie was never dull and never once coasted along between scenes. Every minute of this was engrossing, if not entertaining. I highly recommend this excellent piece of cinema.
